ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,presenttheir report
withthefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyearended31March2022.Thetrusteeshaveadopted the
provisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicableto charities
preparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublic of
Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

galleryandlibraryofdocumentaryphotographybooksandphotographs,inparticularbutnotbywayof limitation,
of the work of Martin Parr.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Significant activities
Exhibitions
TheMartinParrFoundation(MPF)gallerywasclosed(duetoCovid)fromJanuary2021toMay2021.Despite this
MPFmanagedtoeventuallyshowallexhibitionsthathadbeenscheduledbeforelockdown,albeitsome much
further down the line.
Thegalleryre-openedwithChloeDeweMathewsThamesLog.WewentontoshowThildeJensenIamnot invisible,
fromSeptember.BothThamesLogandIamnotinvisiblewerepartoftheinauguralBristolPhoto Festival
programmetoo.BeingpartofthefestivalprogrammehelpedpromotetheMPFtoawideraudience.Following that
JacquelineEnnis-Cole'scuratedgroupshowIntersectionalGeographies(theresultoftheOpenCallfor curators
made in 2021) went on display in January 2022.
The gallery is open to the public 4 days per week (Thu to Sun) and entry is always free.
Membership scheme
ThemembershipyearendedinNovember2021with370memberships,equatingtoabout£40,000revenue, The
numberofmemberswasmarginallydownonpreviousyear(390)following18monthsofCovid Lockdowns.
However,afterthegalleryreopenedwithThamesLog,membershipsign-upsoutperformedthepreviousyear. As
ofMarch2022,subscriptionwereoncoursetooutperformallpreviousyears.InMarch2022theMPF also
welcomedanewPatronwhodonated£5,000.TheMPFheldtwomembershipevents:thePatrons'dinnerheld in
the gallery with talk from David Hurn and a Members' photo competition held over Zoom, judged by Martin Parr..
Talks and Workshops
DespitehavingtopostponeandcancelmanygalleryeventsduringnationallockdownsMPFquicklyadapted to
hostingpopularonlineevents.ThisserieswascalledMPFPhotochatLiveanditattractedbignational and
international audiences.
GraduallyMPFstartedtodomoreandmoretalksinthegalleryagainandoftenbroadcasttheseliveviaZoom too.
thelistofspeakersincludedJoelMeyerowitz,TariqZaidi,PetervanAgtamel,ChloeDeweMathews,Yan Preston,
Anita Corbin, Simon Norfolk, Thilde Jensen, Donovan Wylie, Jamie Hawksworth, Michael Stipe and Janine Wiedel.
MPFJoinedforceswiththeirneighboursTheRoyalPhotographicSociety(RPS)tohostthePhotohubOpenHouse in
August2021.Thiswasanall-dayeventwithvarioustalksandtourstakingplace.Itattactedaudiencesfrom both
the MPF and RPS.
MPFhopetohostmorejointeventswithRPSinthefutureasitisagoodwaytotapintoeachother's audiences
and raise awareness of the two organistaions.
TheMPFContinuestohostpopulartoursforthearchive,forexamplefocusingontheworkofStephenGill,and coal
mining photography.
TheannualbooksonPhotography)BOP)three-dayevent,organisedbyMPFandRPS,returnedinOctober 2021
andwasextremelysuccessful.BOPrentedthePaintworksEventSpaceforthefirsttimetoaccommodateover 50
publishersfromtheUKandBeyond.Self-publishedphotographerswerehousedintheMPFgallery. An
accompanying programme of ten talks was held in the RPS auditorium. All talks were recorded for the MPF archive.
Archive
TheMPFarchivecontinuestogrow,althoughspaceisanissue.MPFinvestigatedwaysofaddressingthis and
purchasedtwonewbuildingsinthePaintworkscomplex.Thesewillbeusedforadditionalarchivestorageand a
study centre. They are currently under construction, but MPF hope they can move into them early 2023.
MPF Continued to acquire work to be housed in the archive. Work acquired included the following:
Tom Wood - Complete vintage set of Photieman [184 C-types and Silver Gelatins]
Stephen Gill [The Pillar] - 34 x pigment prints + 96 silver gelatin prints
Bill Brandt - 64 x Homes for Heroes modern exhibition prints [printed by Richard Sadler]
Janine Weidel - 18 x vintage prints + 2x Book Dummies

Julian Germain donated 34 works from his touring British Council exhibition Soccer Wonderland.
The library collection continues to grow and is open for people to visit one day a week.
Thecollectiondatabasenowhas4500entriesinit.Thesecompriseofbooks,prints,objects,posters and
documents. All entries are keyworded. The data base can be accessed by anyone visiting on a library day.
MPF loaned 6x Chris Killip prints to Tate Liverpool for their Radical Landscapes exhibition.
MPF Shop
Theshop(bothinhouseandonline)continuestodoverywell.NewMPFmerchandisehasprovedpopular.MPF are
getting many big trade orders from galleries and museums in the UK and beyond.
Astheshophasbecomemoresuccessful,MPFrecruitedadditionalhelpsothattheycancontinuetokeepup with
demand. There are many ideas for future product production in the pipeline too.
Publishing
MPF co-published Thames Log by Chloe Dewe Mathews with Loose Joints.
Sofa Sessions
Theseinformalsessions,inwhichMartinParrtalkswithvisitingphotographersfromtheUKandabroad, are
recorded and published online, reaching huge international audiences.
Commissions
Rene Matic was commissioned to produce a body of work in Bristol. This will be shown at MPF in 2023.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
TheMartinParrFoundationacquiredabuildingonthenewlydevelopedPaintworkscomplexinBristolin January
2017.Withthehelpofanarchitect,thespacewasdesignedandfittedouttoaccommodateagallery, temperature
controlled storage, a library and a studio/office.
October2017sawthelaunchoftheMartinParrFoundationwhichincludedaseminardayfocussingon British
photography.Withanimpressiveline-upofeminentspeakersandpanellists,thiseventattractedover 150
participants.
Thegalleryisopentothepublicfourdaysaweekandthereisaprogrammeoftalksandbook-signingswhich take
placeatleastonceamonth.TheseeventsinvolvephotographersfromtheUKandbeyondtalkingabouttheir work.
Again, each event attracts a good crowd, usually 70 or more people.
Thelibraryofphotographybooksisundergoingafullinventoryandwillsoonbeavailableforuseona membership
scheme basis.
TheMartinParrFoundationalsoacquiredworksforthecollectionfromphotographersMarketsLuskacova, Homer
Sykes,GillesPeress,DanielMeadowsandDavidHoffman.Inaddition,asubstantialcollectionofBritishand Irish
photo books has been acquired and these are housed in the library.
Overthenext12monthstheMartinParrFoundationwillstarttoco-publishphotographybooks, commission
photographers to produce new bodies of work and continue to acquire works for the collection.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Martin Parr Foundation ('the Company')
IreporttothecharitytrusteesonmyexaminationoftheaccountsoftheCompanyfortheyear ended

Responsibilities and basis of report
Asthecharity'strusteesoftheCompany(andalsoitsdirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylaw)you are
responsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsinaccordancewiththerequirementsoftheCompaniesAct 2006
('the 2006 Act').
HavingsatisfiedmyselfthattheaccountsoftheCompanyarenotrequiredtobeauditedunderPart16ofthe 2006
Actandareeligibleforindependentexamination,Ireportinrespectofmyexaminationofyourcharity's accounts
ascarriedoutunderSection145oftheCharitiesAct2011('the2011Act').IncarryingoutmyexaminationI have
followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Sinceyourcharity'sgrossincomeexceeded£250,000yourexaminermustbeamemberofalistedbody.I can
confirmthatIamqualifiedtoundertaketheexaminationbecauseIamaregisteredmemberofInstitute of
Chartered Accountants of England and Wales which is one of the listed bodies.
Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomattershavecometomyattentioninconnectionwith the
examination giving me cause to believe:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

Basis of preparing the financial statements

2015)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUK and

historical cost convention.
ThefinancialstatementsarepresentedinSterlingwhichisthefunctioncurrencyofthecompany and

Income

Expenditure

Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
