Ashton Vale Communil Centre ort of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 October 2023 OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Significant activities In October 2021 an Annual General Meeting was widely advertised within the community with all residents invited lo allend. In addition lo notices being posled, individual leallels delivered to all households, advetlising on social media and offering free refreshments, this resulted in a very disappointing response wlh onty Iwo members ol the community attending the meeting Community engagement has been a consislenl Ghallenge within Ashton Vale. A variety of ways lo engage the community and engender interest in becoming involved has been tried with little wsilive outcome. We are now seeking lo lind allernalive ways lo engage with the community. 11 rnay be that there was still concerll about exposure lo Cowd and a reluctance for people lo mix indoors al the end ol the imposed lockdown period. We want lo provide more local community events for local people lo allend, bul with limited volunteers, thi8 is challenging and there is a need lo balance obtaining sufficient funds lo maintain the Community Centre wlh providing free events. Private and Regular Bookings Ashton Vale Community Centre is a very popular venue for looal people lo hold celebrations and events due lo Ils proximily lo the residenti81 area and ils transport links. We remain commilled lo supporting the local community and offering free Communily Events whenever possible and lo supporting other groups who also provide services lo the communily. Following the relaxation of Covid 19 reslriclions the Community Centre was able lo open ils doors lo regular and one off bookings, The Community Centre has always allracled a number of regular bookings,. this is mainly due lo the ease of access lo the cornrnunily cenlre, safe off street parkillg, proximity to public Iransport and the large spa available. We have significantly improved the way bookings are made and this has become more systematic although il is still largely reliant on one person and can be a very time consuming task. We are currently looking into ways that this can become more aulomaled. During the period November 2022 - October 2023 il was encouraging to see an increase in private bookings, bul regular bookings did decrease. Volunteers participation A volunteer rola operates amongst commilled members who ensure that users of the service are greeted, familiarised with the property and advised about managing safety while using the Community Centre. A volunteer ¢￿taCt is always available during each booking. Volunteers 31so lake part in additional roles within the Community Cenlre. This might be cleaning and sorling oul of the facility, repl8cing broken or faulty furnishings, ensuring the Communily Cenlra is in a suitable Gondilion for lelling. Community and Fundraising Events Community Halloween event was held in October 2023 and was well attended by the local community. Page 2

Ashton Vale Cornmunil Cent ort of the Trustee5 lor the Year Ended 31 October 2023 OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES During the year the Community Centre was aw2rded a lot81 of £1,343 from the John James Foundation in order lo host a Christmas Lunch for all local pensioners over aged 65. This event was well allended Social Media and Communication Whilst Social Media has improved the speed with which we can contact the local community, we are aware that with a significanl number of older adults living in Ashton Vale that a broader way of contacting residenls is still required. We advertise local events on notice boards, shop windows, through newslellers and pcjsling direct leaflets. We intend lo develop closer links with other local community groups, lo pool resources and find improved ways of comrnunicaling. We are also looking into how our current website could be improved to speed up the currenl booking process, currently this is a significant task lor one person and we want lo try lo make tho booking system more aulomaled. This may entail employing a web company lo install new systems on our behalf. MalntenanGe and Repairs All the improvernenls have now been completed and everything is fully operational and we have contributed to a defibrillator this year. Long term plans.. The long term plans for the CorNmunity Centre remains lo provide a local community resource available lo all thin the community. In reality, being able lo deliver on this aim depends largely on the availability ol local volunteers lo help support community events. Our aim for the coming year is to find ways to engage with the local community and work together with other loc219roups to find creative ways lo encourage local participation.
