national AQA GCSE and A level

The above is carried out on weekly
Saturdays, usually 38 in total, during
term time at the hired premises of St

Manchester.
The educational objectives of the

the Republic of Poland.
A total of 25 textbooks, graded by age,

classes.
In the period of this report there were
special lessons as follows:
April:
A Polish-speaking police officer visited
the school and spoke to some of the

younger classes on the importance of road safety. The culture and heritage objectives of the school’s programme for 2024-2025 were highlighted by the following events: - October: Teachers’ Day, celebrating the work and dedication of the school’s teaching staff. November: Commemoration of Poland’s Independence Day with events at the school and at the Polish Church Hall. December: Visit of St Nicholas (the Polish Father Christmas) to the school. January: Annual Nativity Play performed by school students for the local community at the Polish Church Hall. The event welcomed several members of the St Paul’s school staff as well those from the local community who hire St Paul’s sports facilities on a Saturday. Also participating were local Fire and Resue Service personnel with two appliances and Greater Manchester Police officers from the Tactical Aid Unit with their vehicle.

As a separate special mention, in October 2024 the school celebrated the culmination of its 75[th] Anniversary programme by holding a Jubilee Grand Ball, with the participation of the Polish Consul General in Manchester, Polish Television and guests from across the community, including current and past teaching staff and volunteers and former students.

students enrolled, from 420 to 430.
These students were taught in 22

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period

continued to strengthen with net income
exceeding operating costs to the sum of
£20,434.
As a result, at the end of the reporting
period the Charity’s capital reserve had
increased from £170,567 to £191,001.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The Charity’s reserve policy is primarily
to ensure that sufficient capital is
available to cover the school’s

period.
This would include the main
expenditures of hire of premises,
teachers’ wages, volunteers’ expenses
and the cost of books and materials.
As part of this reserve, a restricted
‘Social Fund’ is also maintained as
support for families in financial
difficulties to help them maintain their

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 The principal source of funds is from the
school fees paid by parents, followed by
grants received from Poland, though the
latter is not guaranteed and can vary
widely from year to year. Community
fundraising events are also an important
source of income.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46 The banks which the Charity uses for
both its savings and its current
accounts, respectively the Redwood
Bank and the Co-operative Bank, have
strong Environmental, Social and
Governance policies.
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 Parents’ Finances:
As an educational establishment at
which attendance is voluntary, recent
severe increases to the cost of living
may result in more families opting out of
enrolling their children in the school.
Staff Recruitment:
Recruiting and retaining teachers and
teaching assistants to maintain teaching
standards and to replace those moving

on is an increasing challenge both at the start and during each school year. The continuing small but steady flow of Polish families returning to Poland will possibly soon impact on student numbers. Other

Examiner’s report on the unaudited accounts to

The Polish Saturday School in Manchester

My examination is carried out in accordance with UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practice. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records or to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the UK Generally accepted Accounting Practice have not been met, or to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
