The 2023 Festival. which ran from 28 April to 1 May, offered a heady mix of the traditional canonic repertoire for chamber music blended with original concepts and educational activities. It was a success on all counts and has encouraged the team and trustees towards even more ambitious ideas in coming years. The Festival began wrth a schools, performance involving local children wtho had devised from scratch and then perfomied their own orÈginal songs alongside our Festival musicians. A perfOnTran￿ by Lumas Winds in the community space of Winchester library (now called the Arc) led into an opening cOn￿rt which ranged from the première of new work by Huw Watkins to a Beethoven string quartet. A late-night concert of Schubert's Winterreise song cycle completed the day. An interartive family concert started Saturday. yielding place to a fine mixed Performan￿ of mostly 20 -century compositions. Changing genres once more, the Saturday evening concert featured folk- fiddler Donald Grant joining the Festival performers for his Celtic folk tunes arrangements and compositions. Sunday began wth a remarkable performanc8 of"Bach's Goldberg Variations arranged for string trio. The Gala cOn￿rt in the evening. staged in the Chapel of St Cross. included Shostakovich, Pur￿11 and Mendelssohn. On Monday, the master¢lass comprised Festtval musiaans coaching young. up-and-coming ensembles. Attendan￿S al the 8 ticketed ￿n￿rtS were 1 Ooh higher than in 2022 in terms of number of attenders and a 29% increase in money taken, with good audiences as well for the 4 free events. Overall, the Festival made a profit of £8,453 leaving a healthy reserve with which to enter 2024. During the year, trustees met fomially on 3 occasions. They welcomed a new ¢hair of trustees, Dr Tony Stoller, who acknowledged the excellent and immense work undertaken by his predecessor, Hilary Webster. A5 well as reviewing the 2023 Festival, and beginning plans for the 2024 events, trustees considered aspects of governance and the potential for further use of social media. The autumn was notable for a fine concert in Cranboume Barn, courtesy of Miranda and Douglas Paterson, intended especially for Friends of the Festival. Winchester Chamber Music Festival Trust is a charitable Incorporated Organisation ICIOI registered with the charity commission Iregislralion no 11601421 in England & Wales. The CIO meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. The trustees have considered possible events or conditions that might c8st significant doubl on the ability of the charity lo continue as a going ¢oncern. The trustees have made this assessment for a period of at least one year having considered the charity's forecast and projections. After making enquiries the trustees have concluded that there is a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources lo conb.nue in operation for the foreseeable futuff. The charity therefore continues to adopt the going concern basis in preparing these financial statements. 1.2 Incomo Items of income are recognised and included in the financial statements when the charity has enlitlemenl to the funds, and performance condib.ons attached to the income have been met and the amount can be measured reliably.
