Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is governed by a constitution adopted September 2014.

New Trustees are approached by the existing committee and elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting.

Objectives and Activities

The charitable objectives are to preserve and protect the health of residents and visitors to, but not limited to, the county of Northumberland by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, support services and equipment not normally provided by the statutory authorities. To advance the education of the public in health care by the provision of Emergency Life Support training and Defibrillator familiarisation sessions, use of media such as Facebook and by the distribution of leaflets.

The Stephen Carey fund works with local communities, sporting clubs and various organisations within Northumberland towards the placement of defibrillators throughout the county, and to provide emergency lifesaving training to improve the knowledge of communities and increase awareness of cardiac arrest.

Achievements and Performance

During the year the charity assisted twelve local communities and organisations in the acquisition, and where appropriate installation, of defibrillators. First Aid Kits were provided to local Sporting Teams and Organisations. No Emergency Life Support or Defibrillator Familiarisation sessions could take place with the ongoing COVID situation.

Charitable status was attained in September 2014

The Fund continues to be supported with donations by various local organisations, companies and individuals.

Financial Review

The Trustees consider the financial position to be very strong with £37,970 of cash funds at the year end. The charity does not need to hold large reserves to cover closedown costs as there are no financial obligations associated with employing staff or renting premises. During the current year there was excess income over expenditure of £11309. This excess income is due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation as the Fund has not been able hold any fundraising events but still receives generous donations from organisations and families as well as the Parish Councils and other organisations purchasing replacements Pads and Batteries from their own budgets. The Trustees agree the Fund is in a very strong position and recognise that when fundraising events can be resumed it will only get stronger.
