Honley Male Voice Choir- Annual Generdl Meeting- Tuesday 17th June 2025 - 7.00pm Report from the chaim￿n of Trustse5 and The Choir Following the AGM of last year {2024) all our concentration went into preparation for the LBT concert. As this was a departure from our normal performance format extra special detail had to be considered. A theatre performance is very different to normal concerts, (as we were all about to find out). l am very aware of all the hard yards that had to go into turning the dream of Steven Roberts (MD), into the fantsstically successful theatre perft)rmance that ensued. It was not only the performance. but the widespread acclaim received. As a result, the good name of HMVC was spread far and wide. We were then able to take the program on tour. Lepton Church (Sept), Huddersfield Parish Church (Oct), Fountains Abbey (Oct), Mirfield Parish Church (Nov>. All of which were well attended and very successful. Steven has taken two muslc workshops over the year, a further one Is planned for September. These workshops have proved very popular with both established members and the newbies. I would recommend and encourage members to attend. My thanks to Steven for giving up his Saturday mornings to try and impart some music knowledge into the guys who have attended. We have also to acknowledge the work done by Steven and Richard Wade, in arranging and producing the Find Your Voice programme. A free 6 week singing experience for men. The Choir has benefited tremendously from the project, in that we have now 22 new voices (thirteen of whom had come through the Find Your Voice programme) brlnglng our total slnglng members up to 65. An excellent achlevement. In early September Steven asked for volunteers to join the Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir in their production of Carmina Burana, 12 Choir members answered the call. The muslc was totally different for most of us and after the first rehearsal we found out just how differentll However, we persevered. The Journey down to Chesterfleld was tsken with a degree of fear and trepidation but we were made very welcome and were able to add to what turned out to be a tremendously successful event. In November we were asked to appear in a short vldeo for River Holme Connections. The film was to be the final window of an Advent Calendar to be opened by the residents of the Holme Valley on Christmas Day. We duly obliged with a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells. The video was a great success and took the name of HMVC into many homes in the valley. Later in November we sang at the Piece Hall in Halifax. This was a new venue to us. The organlsers were very pleased with our performance and they asked us back to sing at a Spring fair but unfortunately, owln8 to the lateness of the invite we had to decllne. However, the door is still open. At Chrlstmas we were able to field a team of around 20 singers to sing carols at Christmas Fairs. The Forget Me Not Trust {Brackenhall). Lepton School, LBT courtyard. Kirkwood

Hosplce and Fairfield School. All of which were well received and enjoyed by all who took part. A further success in spreading The Choir name around Huddersfield and beyond. Another successful Christmas Concert, saw the return of Lindley Junior School Choir. They stlll maintsin a very high standard, as do the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band who also joined u5. We were able to attrart an enthusiastic audience who all took home an early Christmasy feeling. In January of this year Roger Wild our General Secretary undertook to revise The Cholr rules and advise the Charity Commission of that revision. It Is a ststutory requirement of the commission to have any rule changes approved. This revision work meant many, many, hours spent at the computer. I wish to put on record our thanks and appreciation for the dedlcatlon shown by Roger. We extended our venue range In April, to the far end of the Holme Wdlley, with a community concert in St David's Church, Holmbridge. It was a good concert well received by a rather small, but enthusiastic audience. In line wlth the church policy, we introduced a young slnger to take part In the concert. Bethany-Hannah Winteringham a Soprano, who is currently studying at Leeds Conservatoire. l am pleased to say, that, despite the chill of the night Bethany practically stole the show. She has shown an interest in performing with us again. More recently we were Invlted to join Honley Ladies Choir in Huddersfield Town Hall, along with Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. The concert was the stsrt of a year of fund raising for Breast Can￿r awareness, called, "Abreast the M62" and will culminate on 4 October with a trip along the motorway from Hull to Liverpool, singing at various venues along the way. I wish them every success in this venture. Anyone wishin8 to join in the singing on the 4 October will be more than welcome. Followlng 14 months of filming and interviewing, The Cholr fllm has been released. l am pleased to report that the film has been very successful and is appearing on varlous media platforms. If you are able to get YouTube on your television just search for HMVC. We have several videos and I believe this one Is by far the best. The social side of The Choir continues to be very popular with various events, Dinners, Golf, Bowls, Archery, Quizzes and organised walks. These events serve a good purpose in supporting and bonding the family spirit that plays a large part in the continued health of The Choir. Our thanks go to the or8anisers of these events. Our Fundraising Officer, Chris Flanagan, continues to work very hard in obtslnlng funds. Chris. year-end report shows a totsl of £8,607.38 as the total fundraising for the 2024125 year. Since that report Chris has secured another Corporate Sponsor, Lu's Place a restsurant in Meltham. Chrls. continued dedication, is truly appreciated. Our sincere thanks go to all the varlous bodles who support The Choir in this manner. Publicity- This continues to play an important part in spreading the name of The Choir with our concert dates spread over a wide network of the media. With 2026 being our 90th

Anniversary. l am aware that plans are being put in place to celebrate that occasion. I cannot go into detsil at this stage but suffice to say it will be a bumper year. In order to try to increase the Patrons numbers our Patrons Secretsry Robert Smith has come up with the idea of manning a ststion at concerts. He has a banner and a table at which he will try to encourage audience members to become patrons or frlends of The Cholr. I believe he has had some success. He will continue with this approach and hopefully build on it to extend our patrons and friends, base. On reading through my report one word stsnds out, that word is SUCCESS. So. it gives me great pleasure to state that the year must have been a successful one. 14 appearan￿$, which all helped to raise fvnds for charitsble causes. A splendid increase in singing members, who have added a great deal of depth, to the sound produced. l am sure that under the continued musical direction provided by Steven and Cathy, The Choir will 80 from strength to strength. In closing I have to thank all who have encouraged and supported me during my two years as Chairman. From The Cholr, and Committee, the Ladies Circle, and the Honley Mail. I couldn't have done it without your help. Many thanks. Choir and Trustees Chairman: David Harrison Flnanclal report by The Cholr Treasuyer for the year 1st Aprll 2024 to 31* March 2025 The full accounts are provlded as a separate document. T￿aSurer and Trustee: Mlke Bray Muslc Dlrertorfs Rewt The Muslc Dlrettoropened hls report by expressln8 hls heartfelt thanks to The Choir's accompanist Catherine Hall-smith for her support as a coach, colleague and frlend and for her masslve level of support to The Cholr. He went on to thank the committee emphasisin8 their role as volunteers in what could be a thankless tssk whlch needed them to love The Cholr and he expressed his gratitude fortheir support. He thanked The Choir members for thelr dedlcation and comrnltment, stating that the standard of singing of the members could only be achieved by additional learning at home and he was pleased that he could see that this had improved overthe past year. He went on to choose some highllghts: Recrultment success would be top of his list. Covid caused many choral groups to stop rehearsals and performances but we carried on and overcame the difficulties and challenges that Covld restrictions caused. Three years ago, we stsrted the Find Your Volce sefies which gave the opportunltyfor men to do just that without the pressures of being part of a formal choir, although this was available to them at the end of the course. A total of 22 new members had joined overthe past three year5. thirteen of whom had come through the Find Yourvolce programme and The Choir was Current￿ 65 strong. He offered a massive thank you to Richard Wade {retiring Recruitment Officer) hr his excellent 5UPPOrt and dedication in his role through this perlod.

Our film - a celebratlon of farnlly. We were now telllng the world what it meant to be part of Honley Male Voice Choir, of the joy that could bring. He reported that since its launch on the 16 May 2025 there had been 1015 vlewings on YouTube, 3040 on X (Twitter). Our film was also to be seen on Facebook, Instagram. Threads and Blue Sky as well as numerous other media outlets such as BBC, Calendar. Kirklees TV. Successful concerts. He thanked both mernbers and commlttee for the commitment they glve to The Choir resulting in a Series of successful concerts throughout the year emphasising the need for members to ensure thatthey put concert dates in their diaries and keep them available for the arranged concerts. Flnandal strength. He gave special thanks to Mlke Brdy for his role controlling The Cholr's finances and to Chris Flanagan for his fundraising success. Looklng forward. He lookd forward to the plans for our 90 anniversary next year and in particular our return to the Lawrence Batley Theatre, closing by gNing thanks for the support The Cholr had 81ven to hlm and each other.
