Achievements and performance This section ol the report summarises the achievements and performance ol Heaiihwatch Essex In the year to 31 March 2022, under the headline prioritie5 01 Research, Engagement, Information and Guidance and Ccfflmunication. Within these priorities. the directors have paid due regard to guidance from the Charity Commission on public benefit in deciding what activitie5 the company Should undertake, and Ihe impact ol the following achievements, based on Healthwatch Essex's objects, evidences that public benefit. Our work during the Covid Pandetnic None of our staff were furloughed during the two years of the pandemic and r)0 additional support received this year. At an early stage ol the pandemic we invested in additional technology to ensure that our staff team wa5 able to continue with their work while having to work al home, this has been extremely successful. We have ensured that we stayed in regular contact with each othei, had regular staff and te3ffl meeting5 via zoom and continued to work collaboratively. During this time our managers have monitored the physical and mental health ar)d wellbeing of their stsff and prcvided additional 5UPPOrt as neCe￿ary. The staff have now settled into hybrid working with all staff attending the office once a week and full team development days once a month. Despite the challenges the pandemic posed were able lo deliverall our projects on time and to a high standard. Sensory Impairmènt during COVID-19 Through our work with the CollaboTrte E55ex forum, the challenge5 lacing people living with Sensory impairrnent during COVID-19 have been strongly highlighted. This led to a project taking this lived experience to prod￿? a short campaign targeted at public tran5POrt and local bu5ine55 and those using their 5ep¢ice5, to help them under5tBnd these challenges. The public engagement in this was fantastic with the social media posts sharing th? campaign materials receiving over 40,OC() view5. In 2021 the work received an award from Healthwatch England in the national Healthwatch Awards.

The fijnding will allow Ihe Network to continue raising aw3rene5S and promoting understanding ol neurological conditions through the county. The funding allowed us lo develop an innovative elearning package for health and social care prole55iona15 called 'Understanding Neurology which Was launched on Int&rnational Day ol Persons with Disabilili&s Th& course has been developed as a direct rosuli ol the findings from a range ol engagement activitie5 undertaken with neurological patient5 and prole55ion315 over Ihe last lew years The content has been created by both patients and exp&rts and provid@s real insight into what It's like to live with a neurological condition and how these individuals can be best 5UPPOrted to live Independently loi loruer, and wilh a belter The He3lthwatch E&s&x Ambassador Programme was developed to ensure that lived experience Is used afectiv&ly to influence and Shape Se￿iCe design and delivery. The rnodel involves recruiting, training, and 5UPPOrting volunteers with direct experience ol specific health and car& sewices, and lacilit31ing their input into the decision-making process. As part ol this commitment, we have been recruiting, 5upporling, and facilitating eDg3gement opporlunilies for women and their families through our Matornity Patient Partner programme, Trauma Ambassador Group, Learning Disability Ambassadors, Research Amba55ador5 and Young Mental Health Amba5s3dor5 to represent the voice ol young people who have accessed mental h&31th sefvices In Essex. Each ol these programmes has supported efforts to make tsngible improvemenls in the services acros5 the county. To support co-production within E55ex County Council a5 they embark on a collaborative model of working, Healthwatch Essex has created a Disability Forum to represent adults with an experience ol disability. Representation is sought from all disability group5, including those that care lor someone with a disability. The forum work closely with E55ex County Council commissioners to help shape and inform policies, procedures. strategies and seryices through coprocjuction. The forum presents a fantastic opportunity lor these voices lo be heard al a senior level within the Council, ultimately helping to shape and improve local services In Essex. Over the course ol three years, they will be parl ol discussions regarding the Council's long-terrn agenda5 and the planning ol future co-produclion activities. E55ex County Council have expressed an interest in extending this contract al the same late lor three years. We continue to build strong relationships with the universities in our region. In February, we anrounced details ol a new partnership project with the Univer511y ol Essex and Anglia Ruskin University. This year we have suwoiled the Masters i Public Health program at Anglia Ruskin, setting an academic questions lor èn early rnodule and critiquing the students work through the len5 01 our experience olworking in this field. We have written inlormalive blogs locussing on cervical screening, multiple sclerosis, weight stigma and a number ol TAG related ones covering Sexual Assault Relerrèl Centres, trauma, emotional abuse and financial abuse. Topics which continued to gainer high call rates included GP surgeries, complaints about hospitals support with mental he31th 3nd wellbeing and ol course derbtistry. However increases were also noted in calls regarding ￿Using arbd homele55ness, debt, benelils and Fin3nce5, domestic abuse and Sexual health. We hève produced our Spotlight On SeNices data on 3 quarterly basis. highlighting the call trends in the Essex CCG areas. which is dBplayed on our website and mailed to over 200 direci contacts. Our Feedback Centre has also seen 82 people submit reviews on our local services, With much ol our activities remaining constrained by the reslriclions associated with Covid19, we have maintained our presence virtually at the various meetings, groups and committees occurring across the sector. We have worked to become as inclusive as possible, sharing our work in lots ol difierènt ways and attempting to reach new audience5 regularly. Thi5 has included sharing lived experience, dèta and information from our reports and supporting natiorbal awareness days on topics of particular relevance to our work plan. Our digital media apprentices continue to work on our social media channels which are growing at an increasing rnle and receiving good rates ol engagernent. This year we laurbched a new channel- TikTok- which has been highly successful in sharing our work. We hève used this primarily to promote our new podcast, Hidden Voices and it has been particularly helpful in promoting Dur 3ddiction project, with our series of short films receiving more than halla million views. We continue lo support a wide range of inilialives, to reach a broad range of audiences throughout the year. This year we Used local data and information drawn from several of Dur reports to produce Content ran Ing from films to blogs and podcasts relating lo veterans, our Traurna Ambassador Group, stoma care, experiences orcov1￿79, obesity, suicide, mental health and le3rning dis3bilities. This year we had 28 news articles promoted by the media. They reached a combined audience 012.5 ￿illiOn.
