Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

To advance the Christian religion in the City and County of Swansea and Neath and Port Talbot County Borough Council areas, for the benefit of the public through the holding of preaching services, prayer meetings, lectures, and producing and/or distributing literature on the Christian faith.

To advance such charitable purposes (according to the law of England and Wales) as the trustees see fit from time to Swansea Evangelical Reformed Church was constituted to: • provide a place of worship for the Church members and the

general public;

• hold scheduled meetings which include preaching services, prayer meetings, and lectures, etc.;

• produce and/or distribute literature which teach the Christian religion;

• outreach into the community individually and collectively, bearing the Christian witness through true evangelism.

We confirm the trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

The second general object is included to allow the delivery of secular charitable activities should future need be identified in the local area. No activities are currently planned but if need does arise the Trustees will ensure that all activities are wholly charitable and in the public interest.

The essential purpose of the church is the advancement and promotion of the Christian religion. This benefits the public by:

• confirming Christian people in their faith from across the denominational spectrum, through sound conservative and reformed doctrine by open preaching rallies and Christian conferences;

• • supporting the moral and spiritual improvement of society which benefits the wider community;

• enabling Christians to be effective members of the community. This helps people spirituality and also provides a moral and ethical framework to live by. This moral and ethical framework offers benefits to wider society, as well as provides individual comfort solace and sense of purpose;

• presenting in complete openness, with no restrictions on who attends, meetings where the doctrines and tenets of the Christian religion are presented

• contributing to the moral and spiritual education of children;

• • contributing to the good mental and physical health of the church and society fostering composure in the face of ill health.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

We have provided a place of worship for the Church members and the general public at the Mary Cave Centre. We have held scheduled meetings on the Lord's Day, weekly prayer meetings Bible study meetings. In addition, we hold a Friday night meeting for young people including university students this has primarily taken place on the Zoom app this year due to the various lockdowns and government guidelines and restrictions. Government restrictions have altered some of our activities this year – including the Church trip which would usually take place in July and cover an area of Church history (open to the public) as well as the Church Christmas meal in December. We hope to recommence these activities this year when government restrictions are eased. We have work together with other, like-minded churches in the UK by assisting with the holding of services on Sunday. Churches without a minister have tuned into our livestreamed services on YouTube. This is another way that we have supported the vulnerable and elderly this year – by making all our services available over the internet livestreamed for those unable to attend. We are involved with and support the work of the Christian Worship Publishing Trust which was established in 2005 with the objective of creating a new hymn book designed to provide traditional, reverent hymns for worship in the 21[st] century. The church is involved in the work of the Trust through participation in its Committee. We also support Christian Worship Camps (for young people aged 11+ and young adults 18+) which are held in the summer holidays – this was postponed this year, but all young people booked have had their booking held for Summer 2022. We have supported the establishment of the Salisbury Reformed Seminary which is being established at premises connected to Emmanuel Church, Salisbury and will provide training with a reformed, conservative and evangelical doctrinal basis. This training and lecturing have taken place over Zoom over this year. We have produced and distributed literature on the Christian faith, to teach and to enhance knowledge of the Christian religion. A number of tracts have been produced and we maintain a website, www.swanseaevangelicalchurch.com/ which contains our Lord's Day and Bible meetings sermons in video format. There has been outreach into the community both individually and collectively, bearing the Christian witness through true evangelism. Invitations have been distributed alongside door to door visitation. Open air preaching has been undertaken on a regular basis and ministry at Swansea Train Station. Christmas cards and calendars were distributed in the area in December 2020. We have created worksheets for children to complete during church – sadly we were unable to hold any children’s clubs this year due to the pandemic but we do hope to recommence when restrictions ease.
