Activities
Smethwick CAN works with local communities to tackle poverty, build community, increase aspiration and support the most vulnerable. We provide a wide range of services through local churches and community groups including places of welcome to build community; supporting people towards work and social enterprise to increase aspiration; and provide crisis relief to support the most vulnerable.
Objects: I. To Advance Community Development In Smethwick And The Surrounding Area In Particular But Not Exclusively By:a. Building The Capacity Of The Christian Church Byi. Increasing Its Awareness Of The Resources Available For The Benefit Of The People Their Churches Seek To Help From The Statutory, Voluntary And Private Sectors And Facilitating The Church’s Engagement With Those Sectors In Accessing Those Resources;ii. The Enablement Of Churches In Smethwick And The Immediate Surrounding Area To Develop Growing And Changing Relationships In The Living And Sharing Of Their Christian Faith.b. Increasing The Efficiency And Effectiveness Of The Christian Church And Associated Charities In The Effective Use Of Their Resources;ii. The Promotion For The Benefit Of The Public Of Urban Regeneration In The Socially Or Economically Deprived Areas Of Smethwick And The Immediate Surrounding Areas By All Or Any Of The Following Meansa. The Relief Of Financial Hardship:b. The Relief Of Food Poverty:c. The Relief Of Unemployment:d. The Advancement Of Education, Training Or Retraining, Particularly Among Unemployed People, And Providing Unemployed People With Work Experience:e. The Creation Of Training And Employment Opportunities By The Provision Of Workspace, Buildings, And/or Land For Use On Favourable Terms:f. The Provision Of Recreational Facilities For The Public At Large Or Those Who By Reason Of Their Youth, Age, Infirmity Or Disablement, Financial Hardship Or Social And Economic Circumstances, Have Need Of Such Facilities:iii. Such Other Charitable Purposes For The Public Benefit As Are Exclusively Charitable According To The Laws Of England And Wales As The Trustees May From Time To Time Determine.
