confronted
with a major expenditure
of
charity continuing as a going cR11,000at its manse; Ravenscar,
Moor
Lane, Waverton.
This cost reduced our free cash from
R45,000to cR33,000at the time ofthe
general church meeting was held on 29
March 2023.At that meeting
itwas not
possible to vote through a budget forthe
year 23/24 because
it would have resulted
in
the church exhausting
its liquid assets by
the
end ofthe financial year 23/24. Itwas
agreed that the trustees would return tothe
church atthe June AGM with a resolution to
the ongoing deficit.
Following
much prayer and
consideration
ofcost reduction options, the
pastor ofthe church offered totake voluntary
redundancy.
Aperiod ofdiscussion
and
consultation
ensued and appropriate
terms
were agreed. This resulted
in a reduction
of
annual expenditure
by the church which,
in
addition to increased
giving, amounted
to
cf'.44,000rebalancing
ofincome over
expenditure.
As at end ofend October, our cash
balance will sit at cR14,000.Based on our
budgeted
income and expenditure
between
now and the financial year end this balance
should increase to cR18,000, barring any
unforeseen
events.
In setting the 2024/5 budget, the
church
will be proceeding
without the
appointment
ofa new pastor, which means
that these employment
costs will be
excluded. Thus, barring unforeseen
events,
the churches finances
will run in su
lus for
the next Snancial year. In addition,
it isthe
intention ofthe trustees to rent the
Ravenscar property when
it becomes
available,
and no later than April 2024. This
would
likely generate
income ofcR15,000
p.a.
Additionally,
,REFhas now received
confirmation
that it isacobeneficiary ofa
legacy fiom the relative ofa former member
tothe value ofcR39,000.The estate ofthis
benefactor is currently
being executed.
Over the next 12months,
given a
prudent
budget, income from property
rental
and the legacy payment,
it is likely that our
cash balance
wiN be in the region ofR50-
R70,000.Some ongoing maintenance
and
remedial work wI be carried out on the
church property
in the meantime.
Inthe
coming months
it isthe intention ofthe
trustees to re-set our reserves policy forthe
future.
