We agreed that we will continue to Wofk closely with the Ascension Church_ On the 5th Sundays we will continue to have joint 5ervice5 a5 well as share services throughout summe¥ periods and on occasional festiva15 and feasts. Gift Aid through the bank had sone down but we had an increase in gift aid envelopes and loose plate collections. 7he PCC requested AleK to hold a session and talk about freewill giwng. We examined all resources expended and noted that we will have more expendrture in the comiag Moth5 a5 repair5 and 5eNcing of equipments are carried out Church warden's report: The fabric of the building is still challenging wth uurnbling walls. leaking guttering. we are Currently hawng the alarm 5y5tem improved. We are getting profe55iorsals to look at the issue with the walls. and to get a definite answer as to how the darnp in ihe walls is being caused. so we can prevent this for the fvture. The borough of Barking and Dagenham are responsible for many aspects of the fabric of the community building. but it has been 50 drfficult to get them to do anythin8 since the opening of the Church, but we will continue our endeavour to have diakng with them. Recentlywe had a Spfing clean of the Church. the vestry, the kitchen and auditorium. whi£h irKluded throwng out the old 50fa along with other items. It was good to have the help of many people to spread the load. Thank you. Thi5 makes for a much better environment. Ob*iously our Church building need5 con5tsnt looking after. We have started a free cornmunity breakf35t on the I Saturday of the month, to help and support the local conrnunity. so far this is going well and iys nice to see lots of people chatting and Laughing over whi15t having their breakfast. Our parish Eucharist on Suftdays is still 3111am. and we a150 have alEemative joint seNces with the Ascension Chufch every 5th Sunday. We have continued ro have regular services on Sunday mornings underthegU1dan of eX and Roger with lots of adults and about 20 young people weekly corning to the services and taking part in Sunday School. We have maintained our average congregation and we often see new people join us. William thanked everyone who supports the running of the church. from rnaking Sure the church is clean and tidy to making teas and coffees. putting the chairs away after the service. servin& readin& saying prayers, organlsing the Sunday music and dealing with the technical issues that we somettme have. Sunday school 15 thriving Irene. Emmanuel and team are doing an excellent job.. they often call for others to help due to the large numbers that we get. Youth Club has continued to provide an additional space for young people to come together and research further the work of God, they have an annu31 camp at Stubbers Wlth Red 8alloon. which always looks lun and the people who attend return worn out due to all the activities. They have also taken part in carol singing. performed a nativity play. Pancake Day amongst other activities. We have a diverse congregation of all ages and backgrounds and we need to be aware of including everyone in the things that we dg. The PCC has tomplied with the duty to have'due regard. to the House of Bi5hop5' Safeguardtng Policy and Prattice Guidance. The Parish Safeguarding Officer oversees matters of safeguarding and will complete the required training. report back to the PCC. The APCM once again adopted the Church of England Safeguarding Policy. We've had no safeguarding issves for 2023-24. We continue to adoptthe Church of England safeguarding policy. The church members were reminded oif our re5pon&bility to identify safeguarding issue5 tg safeguard Children. ourselves and those who are vulnerable a5 all of us can experience vulnernbility at some point. Irene remains our safeguarding officer for the church here and the Church of the Ascension. She sahl that last year was filled with various challenges but much to celebrate as we received a huge amount of funding to help resovrce ouryouth and children's work and carry out community engagement events. St Marks was awarded a grant of £40.000 from the Th"ocesan StrategK Development Fund project. To run the Iree community breakfasts every I, Saturday ol the month. To build a multi- sensory room $0 members of our church and the l¢xal community are able to make use of that space as a breakout room. STO hire the seryices of a church consultant to help us organise as a church for different responsibilities, to hi8hli8ht some of the issues that need further legal interrogation and d¢xvmentation to bè cornpliant. It has been a real thriwng time for our young people as the club ha5 continued to flourish with 32 teenager5 attending the youth group on a Tuesday where we do Bible study. and we eat together. that has felt like too many in the last few weeks particularly because we're so short staffed. These young people want to know Jesu5 but it's hard to get them engaged as well so tr's been realty hard work but a real blessing to have that many voung people. Youn£ people participate not jusl in Coming to youth group but also do Sunday seNice reading5 and PowerPoint slides making our church an all-inclusive and fvThaioninE community- We hève continued to connect with other groups such as UA)an Promise UK whereby some ol Oltr teenager5 have received tuition and training and mentoring and some 15-year-olds have gone on to be employed as student leaders for the after-h0o1 club. We are enabling and empowering our young people to be released inio the work of Mission nd ministry here in Marks Gate. Alex said She would l¢ke the adults to be excited and join in and parlicipale in God's mission and minisiries in Marks Gate. Our projects like the community breakfa$ do requ(re adults to set tables, cwk, chat, and get to know the local community. We will do rotas and displayon the nolice boards like the one for re3der5for all to be able to take part in the ministry. Alex thanked all for rhe journey that we have been on with the Ascension thuich Collier Row. She meniioned that balancing the demands of two churches is qur(e hard. but we have been looking lo explore things more creatively a5 we do different styles ol setvices. We have continued to have joint services at both churches_ At St Marks we have started an evening service once a month where we just gather and prayi this is powerful as some members a able to preach the Word of God. We spent some of that money on hiring a youth worker from Red Balloon for our Tuesday youth club. feeding our young people and towards our camping trip. Our income carne froffl regular users. ad hoc hires intluding events and parties and rents from our buildin8. We have a long term let for the preschool premises and the conference room_ Regular hires include.. 'Jaktol Day Care Centre for those on the Spectrum providing respite foryoung people with auttsm and severe learning needs. 'Art Class for aduhs to help keep them engaged while soualising and gaining adulr terhficates in Art. Redbridge Respite Carers Istronger Together) prowdin8 dementia friendfy care networks and support groups in the Ioc31 area. 'Karate for adults and children held after School and on weekends Stage Light Dance club for children who are supwrted and trained In dance lessons Urban Promise UK for after school youth club and Siudent leader svpport and employment. 'We also have two other churches that worship in our building on Sunday afternoon5.
