Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The Show, a one day event, was held on the Saturday before the bank holiday at the end of August in 2023. The show had a full range of activities and local businesses attending including a farmers market, trade and catering stands, show jumping, sheep dog trials, gun dog display, hawking, walling competition, a full range of produce and livestock exhibits and various fun competitions for visitors. Our livestock categories influence the farming committee in deciding what they themselves may farm and are great attraction to visitors. The show attracts a wide range of visitors from the local and farming communities together with tourists visiting the Yorkshire Dales. The Committee believe the Show is vital in encouraging young farmers and we make donations to a range of organisations connected to farming and the local community including the local school, young farmers organisation, the cave and fell rescue organisation and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. |

Financial Review
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | As at 31.12.2023 the Charity is in a strong financial position. The accounts show a surplus of £20,110 for the year and our balance sheet is robust with £131,276 in reserve across our current account and various savings/ investment accounts. |
|---|---|---|
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | Our main sources of income are entry fees paid on show day and car parking revenue throughout the year. It costs in the region of £60,000 to put on the show. Attendance on show day can vary dramatically depending on the weather on show day. A worst case scenario would be a last minute cancellation due to a flooded or storm damaged site. This has happened to other local shows. Such a situation would create a significant loss, possibly as high as £40,000 and more, due to fixed expenditure commitments. As a consequence of these considerations it is felt reserves sufficient to cover a minimum of two to three years of such losses needs to be reserved. Ie around £100,000 plus a buffer. |
| Amount of reserves held | Para 1.22 | Reserves at 31.12.2032 £131,276 |
