Trustees Annual Report April 2024 – April 2025

The Charity was formed on the 22[nd] July 2013 and this was its 11th year of operation.

The current Trustees are:

Martin Parry continued as Acting Chair during this year.

The most significant development this year was the rebuilding and reopening of our website at www.swindonviewpoint.com. One application for funding to do this was made but was unsuccessful. Fortunately we were able to achieve this through volunteer help and are extremely grateful to Alan Parry.

Production activity remained quieter since the Coronavirus pandemic. The amount of public approaches and requests for assistance has not returned to previous levels.

We did however enable/assist several new programmes with local musicians and we distributed productions made by local film-makers. We have continued to redistribute strong previous programming from some years. This has proven very popular, and helps maintain an interest in the wider community and its social and cultural life. .

A small number of archive films were restored, digitised and again made available to the public this year, these included historic footage of the development of the town.

Despite attempts, we did not however succeed in raising sufficient funding to cover equipment or the demands of distribution, nor funding to contract external filmmaker / trainers / animateurs to work with local groups and individuals. We therefore were not able to embark on desired initiatives in this area.

No new funds were raised this year, and our balance currently stands at £3254, which is needed for further archive consolidation so unavailable for projects.

Our main source of funding over the past few years has been from DVD sales of the Films ' Railway Town ' and ' Fire and Stee l' and income from this source has been substantial in the past, but is unsurprisingly now tailing off as more and more interested people have already purchased copies, and fewer people these days use DVD. To achieve best results we need to emphasise further funding initiatives.

The website at www.swindonviewpoint.com has proven very popular indeed, and we have received a great deal of positive feedback. Analytics show that one week scrutinised saw 794 visitors and 1102 videos viewed.
