Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 During this period, Restoration of Hope was able to
support 137 children and young people with their
education from Apr to Sept and from Sept to March.
This covers students at university, secondary and
primary schools. During this time 1 young man
graduated from university.
Children get their education costs covered (books,
uniforms, fees, medical care) and are also supplied with
one meal per day.
35 children/young people live in the homes that
Restoration of Hope run or support and children in
these homes get three meals a day and all living
expenses covered (food, medicines, clothes, transport,
etc).
During this period, Restoration of Hope also reopened
a Women’s Sewing Centre for vulnerable women, single
mums, impoverished widow etc. Over 1 year 10
women were trained as tailors – teaching them to read
and write, use a sewing machine, make patterns, deal
with clients and the basics of running a small company.
In March 2023 the 10 women graduated, and each was
given a sewing machine, charcoal iron and the materials
needed to set up their own business.
Restoration of Hope also helps vulnerable members of
society, paying the rent, food and medical fees for 17
people who are either elderly, widows, living with AIDS
or have mental handicaps, preventing them having to
survive by begging on the streets.

Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

Achievements against
objectives set
Para 1.41 We have given grants regularly throughout the year to
pay for education, equipment, uniforms and everyday
living costs.
We have also passed on monies that were given for
specific projects.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41
Investment performance
against objectives
Para 1.41 Without the financial support given by Hope in Burundi,
through Restoration of Hope, more than 130 children
and young people would not be able to access
education. The fact that they are in the classroom,
learning and having success, is enabling them to make
progress towards graduation, after which we trust they
will go on to become employed citizens who will be
agents of change in this country.
The success of this investment can be seen in the lives
of previous recipients of help, who are now in fulltime
employment, for example one is an advisor to the

Minister of Works, another has set up their own organisation to help the poor and needy, another is now training as an Anaesthetist having qualified as a nurse previously. One has set up a taxi business, another works as a financial consultant, another is an electrician. The investment made by HiB through Restoration of Hope, is transforming individual lives which in turn is helping to transform the nation. We have continued to receive money from Stewardship Other to pass onto Restoration of Hope. All monies received via Stewardship go to Restoration of Hope for general living costs for the children and young people that they support in Burundi. We started to receive income from Stewardship in December 2020.
