## **Achievements and Performance**

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|During this period, Restoration of Hope was able to<br>support 137 children and young people with their<br>education from Apr to Sept and from Sept to March.<br>This covers students at university, secondary and<br>primary schools.  During this time 1 young man<br>graduated from university.<br>Children get their education costs covered (books,<br>uniforms, fees, medical care) and are also supplied with<br>one meal per day.<br>35 children/young people live in the homes that<br>Restoration of Hope run or support and children in<br>these homes get three meals a day and all living<br>expenses covered (food, medicines, clothes, transport,<br>etc).<br>During  this period, Restoration of Hope also reopened<br>a Women’s Sewing Centre for vulnerable women, single<br>mums, impoverished widow etc.  Over 1 year 10<br>women were trained as tailors – teaching them to read<br>and write, use a sewing machine, make patterns, deal<br>with clients and the basics of running a small company.<br>In March 2023 the 10 women graduated, and each was<br>given a sewing machine, charcoal iron and the materials<br>needed to set up their own business.<br>Restoration of Hope also helps vulnerable members of<br>society, paying the rent, food and medical fees for 17<br>people who are either elderly, widows, living with AIDS<br>or have mental handicaps, preventing them having to<br>survive by begging on the streets.|

|Investment performance<br>against objectives|Para 1.41|Without the financial support given by Hope in Burundi,<br>through Restoration of Hope, more than 130 children<br>and young people would not be able to access<br>education.  The fact that they are in the classroom,<br>learning and having success, is enabling them to make<br>progress towards graduation, after which we trust they<br>will go on to become employed citizens who will be<br>agents of change in this country.<br>The success of this investment can be seen in the lives<br>of previous recipients of help, who are now in fulltime<br>employment,for example one is an advisor to the|





Minister of Works, another has set up their own organisation to help the poor and needy, another is now training as an Anaesthetist having qualified as a nurse previously.  One has set up a taxi business, another works as a financial consultant, another is an electrician. The investment made by HiB through Restoration of Hope, is transforming individual lives which in turn is helping to transform the nation. We have continued to receive money from Stewardship Other to pass onto Restoration of Hope.  All monies received via Stewardship go to Restoration of Hope for general living costs for the children and young people that they support in Burundi. We started to receive income from Stewardship in December 2020.
