In March, Lost and Found leatured works by Purcell, Handel and 8routh and was perfomied to a large aLwJianG8 al St James's, Piceadilly. We brwght together a barc]ue ensamble of 11 rThJsiaan$, 5 soloists and a children's choir, alongside the Vox Holl¢Jway thoir. The co1 was in aid of Safe Passage, a tharity working lo reunite young migrants wilh family members in the UK. They spoke movingly about I1r work wlh refugees and a 'bud(et collecliM' gwated a $ignifi¢a* dw11 for the tharty. In JU. CAJr Summer concert. held At St Luke's. was designed to a fun event wth food and maximum audience involvement. Choir members did the eAtering and invited paople to pay a little extra lo join our aftemtsjn rehearsal so they ¢Id partiopale later. The wogramm, Harvey Brough'$ arrangements of the Beatles, Sgt Peppw and Revolver albJm5, was aFP681ing 10 Poople of all agos and w& got a great response. It was a herAic L¥Jt thoroughly enpyable evenirvj. wth great feedback from our audience and cc singers. In the Autumn lem. we ware invited lo retum to Sl Jam8s's. Picxadilly Io Ferform Faure's R8qupm and The Prophet by Harvey Brough, a work we had last surYJ in 2013 The Vox Chamber Choir also perfonned Incantaln of Eden, also by Harvey Brough with words by Justin Butcher. 11 was thrilliThJ to sing these works in such a wonderful setting. Having funded The Sun Cixs Shiro th& roclxding arKI podcast project, ACE gave us a third grant towards this project, enablirKJ us to present the shthv lo a mwh larger audience 8t Hacknay Empire. The perfomianc• wa$ planned lor 2024 Lmjt securing the grant in 2023 m8ant wa could start promoting tha show with the theatre team well ahead of the actual perfomwnce. d•r ProJ•¢ts In Merch, we launthed Behleon th8 88ts. 8 3minute documentary that follows th8 thoir as il gets to grip$ with the challengo of singing thLrt Anthony Ray Hinton's 3(yOar ordeal on death row in Alabama. Tha film provides a compelling insight into Vox as a singing Community and explores soma of th challervJo8 that arise thi complex swal i$suas are athjressed through music and the art8. The film generated a lol of inlorosl, and wa were able to 8htr# rt iw'ce at a local cinema. With th8 film makers, we ara exploring other way8 lo promote il more widely. From January onwards. bogan *vrk on the TSDS podcast prg8ca, 8180 fLnded by ACE. The idea was to lako the 810ry 8nd the music into pnsM$ in a way that ¥1 bo meanirthil to UK prisonèrs. espea'ally those 3eNing long4em and indotemiinate senlonces. Tho Pris R8dio Association {PRAI had agreed lo work with us, but in May thoy told us that Ihty did not have capaoty to h8lp creale the programmes. Thay could broadcast Ifthn into pri%Jns, but Vox wruld have lo yoduc8 them. Undaunted, we Set about designing and developirwJ the podcasts ourselve$. In addili¢)n to tha mu$1¢ of TSDS, we wanted lo interview Anthony Ray himselF, but given his heclic $ddule, Ixokering this look many months. We 8180 W8nloO to include the voices of UK prisoners arKI approached HMP ColdiThJley in tho hop8 that we might record the priOr3 we knew there. Sadly. other commilm&nls meant that she had to step baca from Vox in Septembw, we were delighted that Rick Leigh was able to Join us as accompanist. Other than our professional music leaders, Vox operates on a voluntary basi5 Wlthout any paid administrative SUPFKrt Choir members committed and always wlling to h&lp. but the demands on trustees are cx)nsiderable. A key decision. taken in 2023. to review the w8y we operate will help build on our strerWs and potentially lead to som8 changes that should enable us to plan ahe8d more effectively and better supwt V0S innovalive and experimantal approach to choral music.
