CAMDOCUK REPORT OF ANNUAL ACTIVITIES YEAR

2020

Statement from Chairperson

The last year has been a challenging year not only for our association but for the world at large. Many have lost their lives and livelihoods, and in the UK, black and minority ethnic populations have been the most affected by COVID-19. We have all had to adapt to sudden change and learn to do things differently, and this has been the same for our association. I would like to thank all our hardworking members for their patience and support in forging the association forward. We all have been steadfast and worked hard in supporting our communities during these hard times. We are grateful to our partners who have been instrumental in helping fund our community projects. A special thanks to HERO, our partners in Cameroon who were key in helping undertake our massive PPE project. CamDocUK future is bright!

A. Meetings held this year

– CamDocUK normally holds 3 meetings a year two ordinary meetings and a general assembly. The latter is usually accompanied by a gala event. The last AGM in June 2020 was virtual. However, this activity year, there was no AGM as Covid-19 restrictions did not permit a social gathering. It was unanimously agreed to rather have a social event in the form of a garden barbeque party, which was held on 7/08/2021. It was a fun, family activity hosted by Dr. Ngatchu and Dr. Afong. The excitement at catching up after a long period was palpable. Outdoor games were the highlights of the day, with plenty of gifts won.

Our next AGM will be held on 25th June 2022 at the Chesford Grange hotel in Warwickshire. Members have been informed and advised to book accommodation.

C. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Our annual paid zoom account has enabled us run educational webinars for the Cameroonian and African communities. We have run several webinars helping educate our communities on Covid-19 and quite a number have been impacted positively.

CamDocUK has also inadvertently established itself as the unofficial go-to organisation for the public, with several popular media houses requesting collaboration for interviews on various medical topics.

We have also organised sporting activities with the aim to encourage members to keep active, especially in COVID-19 times. Prizes were won.

D. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Project

This has been the highlight of the year. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a massive fundraising campaign was launched, probably the biggest carried out by the association to date with £24,626.40 raised from the public. 3000 gloves, 3000 face masks, 375 face shields, 300 protective gowns and 30 liters of sanitiser were purchased mostly from China, and distributed across all 10 regions of Cameroon. Our partners HERO, a Cameroonian-based health organisation, were in charge of running the whole project in Cameroon.

A comprehensive report has been produced by HERO detailing the project.
