The eco1MiC ¢ri5is and lack of regulation of brerdets and those rabbits bring advertised on selling sites or socia] media has resul¢¢d it) 8 ¢oniinlled Incr5¢ in the number of rabbits b¢ing dumped and t)eeding immedia* assistance as well as an Incre in Welfa and rheglect ca5¢S. The rescue ha5 seen Incre in the length of lime pair5. groups and single Tnale rabbits are spending with the charity whilst waiting for their forever home. this may be partiajly due to us still having a large number of red eyed while rabbits that wer¢ r¢s¢ued following the closu i)f a meo1 fami as sadly ihese rabbits are seen as less desirable as they are less 'cute' than the fftore colourful. brachycephdic an lop eared breed5 which are more often used in advertising and featur more on social media. Unfortunately. this ha5 the numbeT5 of rabbits on our waiting list ha5 incr¢&sed and the tirne owners having to wait fora platt to become available is approximalY 3 to 5 monihs. The number of rabbi¢S under the charities care at any one time has remained sthble, with a slighily smaller m&ximum number onsite of seventy. this ensures individual care plans can be implemented and that welfare standards on51t¢ retnain high. We have continued to establish further working relatLOll5hip5 With tnany other reputable re5cue5 nationwide to increase the number of Tabbits we can as51St who are corning frown neglectful situation5. Due to ihe sad loss of several of our long-iern) skK)nsor rdbbits we have been able io offer a limited number of long-terni placements to rdbbits that require ongoing medical care or extended rehabilitation. By offering this Service to other re5cue5 we ean free up spatt to a551St thern in helping a greater numkr of rabbit5 who Tequir¢ rehoFninB. Over the last few years the reductiork in the nUmr of Tabbits cared for at the ru¢ at any one time has enabled us to provide ] rabbits in our thve, once out of isolation. with RWAF recommended sized accommodation. to provide rnore detailed individual diet and c4re plans & a150 pfovlde rn0 enrichment items. thu5 improving ch & every rabbi¢s overall welfare. The rescue charity focuses its efforts on helping those rabbits rn05t in need of rescue plattmenL not only in the local area bui also nationwide & work with rescue neiworks & other reputable rescues to a¢hiev¢ this. We continue to see large numbeT5 of strdy fdbbits who are likely to have been dumped as well &8 those coming fiDm neglectful siiyations where the rnbbit's basic welfare needs are not being met. Thhs year we have also seen an increase in intakes Whe the owner has losi one of a pair of rabbits and d$ Mt wish to or cannot afford io give the r¢maining rabbit a n¢w companion. Sadly. many rabbits that come into U5 have been passed through numerou5 homes via social media or selling sites. We have su¢eessfiJlly bonded rabbits that have had f[ed bonds elsewhere and have been deemed to be difficult to Tnatch with a Suitable cornpanion. Surrender requests continue to increase due to the ease of people being able to purchase rabbits onlin¢ or in pet shops with no research being wnducied and little or in¢oTr¢¢t husbandry advice being given at point of sale. The need for rnbbits to come into res¢ue has never been so gre but without sufficient funding we are tx)werle5S to provide th¢ supwTrrt ihes¢ rdbbits so desperately require.
