The charit), t(M)k in one hundred & twenty-one rabbits during the period firjm 1st April 2023 until 315t March 2024. an

rabbits in desperdte nced.
During thi5 period. we 5UCtt5sfully rehotned one hundred & eight rabbits which a]so incr¢&8ed in comparison to the
previous year.
The eco1￿MiC ¢ri5is and lack of regulation of brerdets and those rabbits bring advertised on selling sites or socia] media
has resul¢¢d it) 8 ¢oniinlled Incr￿5¢ in the number of rabbits b¢ing dumped and t)eeding immedia* assistance as well as
an Incre￿ in Welfa￿ and rheglect ca5¢S.
The rescue ha5 seen Incre￿ in the length of lime pair5. groups and single Tnale rabbits are spending with the charity
whilst waiting for their forever home. this may be partiajly due to us still having a large number of red eyed while rabbits
that wer¢ r¢s¢ued following the closu￿ i)f a meo1 fami as sadly ihese rabbits are seen as less desirable as they are less
'cute' than the fftore colourful. brachycephdic an lop eared breed5 which are more often used in advertising and featur
more on social media.
Unfortunately. this ha5 the numbeT5 of rabbits on our waiting list ha5 incr¢&sed and the tirne owners having to
wait fora platt to become available is approxima￿lY 3 to 5 monihs.
The number of rabbi¢S under the charities care at any one time has remained sthble, with a slighily smaller m&ximum
number onsite of seventy. this ensures individual care plans can be implemented and that welfare standards on51t¢
retnain high.
We have continued to establish further working relatLOll5hip5 With tnany other reputable re5cue5 nationwide to increase
the number of Tabbits we can as51St who are corning frown neglectful situation5. Due to ihe sad loss of several of our
long-iern) skK)nsor rdbbits we have been able io offer a limited number of long-terni placements to rdbbits that require
ongoing medical care or extended rehabilitation. By offering this Service to other re5cue5 we ean free up spatt to a551St

Over the last few years the reductiork in the nUm￿r of Tabbits cared for at the r￿u¢ at any one time has enabled us to

detailed individual diet and c4re plans & a150 pfovlde rn0￿ enrichment items. thu5 improving ￿ch & every rabbi¢s
overall welfare.
The rescue charity focuses its efforts on helping those rabbits rn05t in need of rescue plattmenL not only in the local
area bui also nationwide & work with rescue neiworks & other reputable rescues to a¢hiev¢ this.
We continue to see large numbeT5 of strdy fdbbits who are likely to have been dumped as well &8 those coming fiDm
neglectful siiyations where the rnbbit's basic welfare needs are not being met.
Thhs year we have also seen an increase in intakes Whe￿ the owner has losi one of a pair of rabbits and d￿$ Mt wish to
or cannot afford io give the r¢maining rabbit a n¢w companion. Sadly. many rabbits that come into U5 have been passed
through numerou5 homes via social media or selling sites.
We have su¢eessfiJlly bonded rabbits that have had f￿[ed bonds elsewhere and have been deemed to be difficult to
Tnatch with a Suitable cornpanion. We have also found forever homes for several harder to rehom¢ rabbits including a
trio who had been in rescue overthree years.

Going ¢oncern
The Ke5cue relie5 on donations and fundraising from the generdl publhc & volunteer5. This income tluctuate5 and can
lead to tlow p￿blernS.
In order io cope with the continued rabbit w¢lfwr CTIS15. w¢ d¢5peTately need more iso1o1ion spa¢e which is noi wsstble
due 10 the resiriciions on the site. we also need to attract tnor¢ adoptee5 who can meet minimum welfare guidelines. li ss
unknown whether further r¢strictitsns and changes will be imwsed on the charity by ihe landowner and we could be
forced io close with little notice ar any ￿]nt. 'I'he uncertainty surrounding the future of the rescue continues io have a
negative impact on the tnental health of iK)Ih staff and the [na￿AgeT.
In light of this we eonttnue to search for a permanent horne for the charity on a site where we would be able to hold
educational and fundraising events to help irt¢Tease Income as well as having ihe fa¢ili¢ies and infrnstrncture to enable us
to help more rabbits who need rescue placement.
Contingency plans have been pui in place to move ro a more foster based r¢wu¢ if requircd as well as havin8 the
long-tenn Tabbils carcd for at the manger5 home should the need arise. We have consulted with other reputable res¢ues
regarding the tK)lential challerkges we tnay face if we are forced to move to a more foster based )rscue.
We Continue to Ii)ok for funher fosr¢rers to help with the Incr￿Sed demand for space. t)ue to the InCr￿ed risk of

lo redu¢e the risk of an olltbreak of infectious dise&se on site which would lead to temrorary closure & 105$ of income.
We adhere to high husbandry standards & Strict bio-5¢curity Tnea5urrs, which are re¥ularly ieviewed tn lit)¢ with current
guidance from other leading professionals.
Adoptions continue to be slow with some rabbits wailing years 10 find a $uithble fo￿Ver home. Most home offer5 fail to

appropriate diet or supplying the rdbbits with sufficient enrichment item5 nttded in ordeT for them ¢0 display the full
range of naturdl behaviout3.
Surrender requests continue to increase due to the ease of people being able to purchase rabbits onlin¢ or in pet shops
with no research being wnducied and little or in¢oTr¢¢t husbandry advice being given at point of sale.
The need for rnbbits to come into res¢ue has never been so gre￿ but without sufficient funding we are tx)werle5S to
provide th¢ supwTrrt ihes¢ rdbbits so desperately require.
Printi￿1 rb$k¥ and uncertainties
A reduciion in in¢om¢ is also &$ risk as the operational costs will not decre&se ar￿ may illdeed increase further with
greater nuThber of unwanted or neglected pet rdbbits needing rescue placement and th¢ impa¢t of the continued
economic crisis leading to further increases in the cost of supplies and veterinary care.
Costs of preparing new irtskes for rehorning have increased dramatically over the lasi year to an av¢r88¢ of over £175
per rabbit.
Due to thc naturr vf the Rescue5 work Tetention is exiremely Impx)ftani. If leave. any new staff member5 must

The Charity erKoura8es Staff to undertake CPD where w>s5ible in order to keep their knowledge up io d￿¢ as failure to
