Chaifs and CEO'S forerd 2022r23 has bean a suctsssful as well as challenging year for Woman's Trust and for the sector over811. We started delivery of s8V8ral new partnership projects during the year. The Ascent partnership projed was funded by London Councils. the London Whole Housing SeNice Partnership (LVVHSP) and Pan London Floating Support servi (PLFSS) fvnded through the Greater London Authority.. and the Maia & Lfft project funded by the Mayorfs London Violence Reducts'on Unit (LVRU), focussed on work llth young women. This year we re-introduced fac8-tcFface counselling and therapeutic support groups for dients who requested them. and continued remote delivery via phone and Mdeo for most dients who find this more accessible. Overall, we provrded over 6,200 sessions for dients: 616 initial asses%nents. 5,591 counselling sessions, 272 support oroup sessions and 86 workshops. In total we supported 716 women during the year. The cost-of-living crisis increasingly impaced on our dients, and we were also able to help some women wtth grants from our hardship fvnds. In November2022, the DomesticAbuse Commissioner published the findings of an extensive suTry induding hearing from over 4.000 survivors of abuse. Her report shows that provision of services is a postcode lottery: our own experien includes having to tum women away because they live in a postcode where we haw no funding for services. The report also asked sumvors what their priority needs were.. the top requirement (83% of women) wanted counselling and therapeutic support. Less Ihan hair of those who wanted this mental health support were able to access it. In January 2023. Women's Aid reported in their research into what gJNvors valued in the type of mental health support provided to them. Their conclusions describe exactly what Wornan's Trust delivers.. a seNice that is expert in the dynamics of domestic abuse. trauma- infomed, women-only, long-tenn, empathetic and non-judgemental. The need for our services continued, and continues, to exc*ed our funding. While we expect the economic challenges to ease somewhat in the next year, our vision remains.. to help many more vrnen to recover from their exPerier of abuse and we will work tirelessly to achieve that. Vile end this message with one from a dient: °Having . . therapy with a Servi who a speaalised in domestic violence allowed me to feel safe to discuss what happened to me and to not feeljudged. My therapist was absolutely amazing," she made me feel so understood and has been a vital support during such a difficult time. l ¢2nnof imagine what state I would be in now rfl had not had these 18 sessions., Sally Field Heidi Riedel Chair Chief Executive Offir

“I found counselling really helpful, giving me a safe and empathetic space to speak about difficult and painful experiences and grow from that experience. Counselling was beneficial with moments of insight.”
December 2022
“My time with my therapist has been invaluable. From start to finish, in every session [my counsellor] was so incredibly warm, validating and emphatic. She made me feel safe within our sessions to express how I was feeling and she offered very insightful reflections which have enabled me to process the difficult relationship that I was in as well as reflect on other areas of my life where I have been experiencing difficulties. The therapy has been instrumental in helping me to understand and come to terms with what I was subject to and how to move forward with my life. I cannot thank [my counsellor] enough for all her support.”

The charity provides opportunities for Trustees to attend inlemal specialised domestic abuse training and extemal trainlng, induding govemance and (*arty finance. 14
Risk Management The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the Charity is exposed in line with the risk management policy. The policy involves an annual risk analysis which fomis part of the charitys strategic planning proc£ss and the individual risk assessments of proposed new projects or developments. Incon Woman's Trust received £945,407 in total br)rne in the year to March 2023. Unrestricted income of £388,566 made up more than a third of Woman's Trust total income. Of that sum, unrestricted donations and gifts were £95,561. Restricted income totalled £556,841, of which £5.219 was donations and gifts. Expendltur• In the year to Marth 2023, expenditure was £1,016,663 slightly more than last year. As specific Covid-related grants came to an end, we increased the number of staff devoted to raising funds to grow our sources of income. Service provision costs increased by over £60.000. The labour marf(et tightened further in the year and it was necessary to use specialist agenaes and some 8gency staff during the year, increasing staffing expenditure. 16

Restrrcted funds c8rried fornard were £131,039. reflecting the fact that project funding is rarely aligned with financial years. The unrestricted funds stood at £446,898 at the end of the year, and this similarfy includes designated fjjnds of £50,000 set aside to cover uJre and project, £47,999 core funds carried forlvard. This leaves reserve funds of £348,899, an increase of £42,384 over last year. Reserves pollcy The Trustees review the reserves policy annually and the cal(lation of Ihe requId level of reserves is an integral part of the LganiSatIon,S planning and budgettng. It takes a¢¢ount of the risks associated with each stream of income and expenditure being different from that budgeted, the organisation's commitments and the planned activity level. The reseNes policy requires tree reserves (i.e., unrestricted funds exduding designated and Assets) to be maintained at a level Yihich ensures that the organisation's rAJre activity could conts'nue during a period of unforeseen dfficulty such as.. • a funding gap, possibly whilst waiting for the result of an 8PPlication.' • funding short term deficits in a cash budget, V4hen paid in arTrars', • covering unforeseen daY-tdaY operational c£)sts, such as payjng t8mporary staff in the absence of pennanent staff" + covering unforeseen emergency costs. 17
The Tru8tees believe that it is prudent for the financAal reserve to be at least three months, running costs to meet the above obligations. Our medium-tem) objective is to move to 8 6 months, reserve policy. We increased our reserves in 2022123 to £348,899 in line with our increased corg costs, and plan to maintain this level in 2023124. Going Concern As noted in last yearfs Annual Report, the investment we made in partnership working produced several new strands of multÈ-year fijnding starting in April 2022. In addition, we have secured several other multi-year fijnding grants and donations. The net effect is that, wthilst we still have a budget gap to fill. V believe our position is secure enough to give assurance that Woman's Trust remains a going (x)ncern for the followng reasons.. • budget and cash flow forecasts prepared shcyw Ihat Woman's Trust has sufficient funds to meet its obligations for the next nine rnonths and we have a fundraising plan, and fundraising Source, in place to raise funding beyond that time. and + manag8m8nt infonnation systems enable timely decision making. Fundraislng Prnctl¢e8 Woman's Trust complies with the Fundraising Code of Practi and is registered with th8 Fundraising Regulator. Woman's Trust does not use any professifflal fundraiser or commercial paiticipatorto raise funds on our behalf. No mplaInts have been received about our fundraising activities. Most of our fijndraising activity is applications to charitsble trusts and foundations, and to statutory funders such as the NHS, Local Aufhorits'es and central government. We plan to incTrase our income from donations by community fundraising and building relationships with corporate and individual donors. Donations received as a result of active fun(Iraising are dedicated to the purpose for which they We raised for.
