Activities
Borderlands provides a welcoming community which supports asylum seekers and refugees in Bristol "from exclusion to belonging". We offer a social space, practical support, food, mentoring, English classes, wellbeing activities/trips and outreach support for new arrivals, all guided by our values of Warmth, Connection, Dignity and Respect. Over 100 volunteers play a major role delivering our work.
Objects: 1. To Relieve Asylum Seekers And Refugees In Need, Hardship And Distress By Reason Of Their Social And Economic Circumstances By Such Charitable Means As The Trustees Shall Determine Including The Advancement Of Education, Relief Of Poverty And The Preservation And Protection Of Good Health.2. To Promote Social Inclusion For The Public Benefit By Preventing People From Becoming Socially Excluded, Relieving The Needs Of Those People Who Are Socially Excluded And Assisting Them To Integrate Into Society.for The Purpose Of This Clause ‘Socially Excluded’ Means Being Excluded From Society, Or Parts Of Society, As A Result Of One Or More Of The Following Factors: Unemployment; Financial Hardship; Youth Or Old Age; Ill Health (Physical Or Mental); Substance Abuse Or Dependency Including Alcohol And Drugs; Discrimination On The Grounds Of Sex, Race, Disability, Ethnic Origin, Religion, Belief Creed, Sexual Orientation Or Gender Re-Assignment, Poor Education Or Skills Attainment, Relationship And Family Breakdown; Poor Housing (That Is Housing That Does Not Meet Basic Habitable Standards); Crime (Either As A Victim Of Crime Or As An Offender Rehabilitating Into Society); Sexual Exploitation.3. To Advance The Education Of The Public In The Subject Of Those Groups Mentioned Above With The Aim Of Increasing Community Cohesion.for The Purpose Of This Clause, Community Cohesion Is A Term To Describe How Everyone In A Geographical Area Lives Alongside Each Other With Mutual Understanding And Respect.4. To Promote General Charitable Purposes For The Benefit Of The Community Of Bristol And The Surrounding Area, And To Provide Relief From Financial Hardship And Social And/or Economic Disadvantage And To Advance The Education Of Its Residents Of All Ages; And In Particular To Provide Opportunities For The Aforementioned Residents To Participate Fully In The Life Of Their Community In Ways Which Address And Alleviate Social And Economic Disadvantage.
