Saxton Cricket Club Annual General Meeting - 21st November 2024

Minutes from Last Committee Meeting - Matters Arising:
- Change of Licensing Hours: SH investigated and found that a new application is required. To maintain good relations with neighbours, it was agreed to continue current hours with temporary event notices as needed.
Chairman's Report

Facilities: Rated 4th in the York league.

Senior Cricket: 1st team finished runners up; 2nd team performed well despite challenges; Womens team reached the 100 final at Headingley.

Juniors: Successful summer training and good turnout at summer camps. Thanks to WK and PV.

Finances: Solid position but reliant on volunteers.

Grounds: Thanks to NG and Grounds team for excellent playing surface despite weather challenges.

Equipment & admin: Special thanks to CD for securing better ground equipment and League dealings.

Safeguarding: NY's hard work as Club Welfare Officer was acknowledged.

Other: WK's efforts on matchdays and JH's social media posts were appreciated; thanks to DB (& NG & WK) for painting pavilion.
Treasurer's Report

Accounts for 2024: Show a small surplus, not accounting for endof-season curry bill.

Expenditure: c.£13,000 on grounds and machinery vs. c.£5,000 in sales.

Kitchen and Bar Sales: Income of c.£14,500, expenditure of c. £8,400, net return of c.£6,100.

Stock Management: Carrying forward around c.£1,500 of stock with a retail sale price of c.£3,500. Need for greater stock control.

Grounds Report

Challenges: Wet weather made the top corner unplayable, moving start of season to track 9.

Volunteers: Thanks to all who helped with mole draining.

Track Work: End-of-season work went well; fungus on square treated with fertiliser.
Team Reports
1st Team:

Excellent season after early difficulties.

Team bonded well after change of captain, finishing runners up and gaining second promotion in 2 years.
Womens Team:
-
Reached the Finals Day at Headingley in the 100 competition, finishing runners up.

Challenges in the second half due to player availability. Potential player returns next season.
2nd Team:
-
Good season overall, competing well against 1st teams.

Highlight: Beating Church Fenton.

Mixture of youth and experience; no confrontations, great team spirit. Thanks to DB.
Juniors:

Difficult season for Under 11s; feasibility discussion needed.

Excellent All Stars and Dynamos season, with: Club helping school’s PE lessons; 27 children attending summer training; 28 children at 2 summer camps.

Need for a female coach to act as positive female role model for girls who tend to give up cricket aged 11 or 12; concerns raised over paying of coach by non-committee members, though committee
agreed this expenditure in May and the £250 concerned is small beer relative to the £4000 raised by the Juniors’ section.
- Winter nets planned for next year; need to resurrect junior section.
Welfare Officer
- Thanks to NY for her years of hard work. Her expertise will be missed.
Grey Foxes
- Weather affected games, with only 3 played. Availability remains okay.

York League Amendments
- Club is happy to vote with the League on all proposed amendments.
Saxton Cricket Trust & Saxton Cricket Club Charity
- SCT: It was agreed that ‘ If Sport England does not confrm in writing by 31 January that it supports the Saxton Cricket Trust’s transfer of
land to the Saxton Cricket Club Charity, then the Club will appoint ’ new trustees to the SCT and retire the existing ones .
- SCCC: AT wishes to stand down as a trustee, leaving only 3 trustees. Need to appoint 2 more.
Any Other Business

Howdens Sponsorship: £3,000 over 2 years, name on all shirts, principal sponsor on NVPlay, pavilion use 4 times a year, £25 donation for insurance policies by members.

Dave Connor Trophy: 2nd division T20 Cup entry agreed.

Midweek Captain Position: Vacant.

2025/2026 Tour: Potential Holland, SH to investigate.

Social Nights: Club to open on one Friday night each month in winter for socialising; dartboard to be organised.
