Welcome everyone, and a huge thanks to the fantastic Committee who stand at present.

This year we have worked hard as a committee to move with the positive changes made within Children’s services. Supporting our fostering team and supporting our fostering families.

We have celebrated Easter and Halloween with discos and at Christmas we had a very special visit from Father Christmas at our Injoy party. We have raised money through raffles, cakes sales, teddy tombola’s, book sales as well as incredible efforts from carers, young people and social workers taking part in the Southampton marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k run, amazing! Ruth Sadler, not only did the Southampton Marathon, she also took part in the London Marathon, raising over £1500 for SFCA. Thank you Ruth! Ruth also pulled together a brilliant quiz evening, which raised a huge £600. Due to the amount of money raised and donations we have been able to have another Haven holiday. This will be another fantastic opportunity for us to come together and make fantastic memories. We are really looking forward to the AGM, a fun day for all.

We have received our annual service level payment from SCC which increased this year to £4000. Thanks to the fostering team for supporting us, and working hard to source funding for our celebration evening in October. The fostering service also pay for the Insurance on our storage unit, which holds equipment, Christmas presents and event decorations/equipment. We would also like to thank Colin McPherson for Christmas presents, Easter eggs and raffle prizes.

As your Committee, please feel free to come to us with any concerns you may have, we will do our best to get any queries answered or gain guidance for you!

Thank you all for coming today to support our amazing riders and we hope you all have a great day at the Family BBQ & AGM, and we appreciate all those who have attended! Thank you, Jo SFCA Chair

Membership of the Association is open to any registered Southampton City Council (SCC) foster carer.

The SFCA is partnered with the Foster Services Team of SCC with whom we jointly undertake a range of activity programmes, and from whom we utilise a lock-up (to store gifts for our children) and their Pathways Building for Committee meetings.

All Trustees and Committee members give their time voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits.

Objectives and activities

Objects

The objectives of the SFCA shall be to advance education and to protect and preserve the good health of foster carers and the children in their care within Southampton and surrounding areas, by:

  1. Promoting the provision of high-quality foster care for children looked after, in partnership with the Children’s Services Fostering Team of SCC and to work together in the practice and promotion of anti-discrimination, anti-racism, and equal opportunities.

  2. Supporting the SCC in their recruitment of suitable persons to become foster carers.

  3. Supporting foster carers whilst promoting and protecting their interests.

  4. To enable carers to have a stronger voice.

  5. To promote good working partnerships.

  6. To provide support and guidance.

  7. To support and enhance knowledge and skills required for fostering.

  8. To offer regular social events for everyone.

Main Activities

The SFCA is an independent organisation run by Southampton foster carers and is a registered charity. The Association offers activities and social events for fostering families and the children in their care. We give additional help to foster carers with monthly support groups.

The SFCA organises annual events including fun days, barbecues, discos, day trips, a Halloween party, and a Christmas grotto.

Additional Details

We are grateful for the many hours’ our Committee members and volunteers have spent working with the SFCA to put on our, in-person and virtual, events. Without this valuable contribution of time, energy, and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.

Statutory Declaration on Public Benefit

The Trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties.
