The purposes of the Children Promotion Society Orphanage Nepal (CPS Nepal) are to relieve the poverty by providing for the physical needs of the children who live at the orphanage and to advance their education. In order to achieve these objectives, CPS Nepal has funded the costs of house rental, utilities, food and staff to care for the children. In addition, it has met the costs of health and dental care. CPS Nepal has funded the cost of school fees, school registration, all books and school uniforms for the children.

CPS Nepal has advanced education by commencing a bursary scheme for local children living in poverty who have not been receiving a suitable education. It has funded the cost of school fees, school and exam registration, books, uniform and shoes.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

During 2021/22 CPS Nepal continued to provide funds to care for and educate the 20 children living in the orphanage house. A house move took place in November 2021 in the same local area. The 18 school students studied in person and online during this period depending on the COVID situation. The 2 second-year college students also studied online for part of their course due to COVID restrictions and their Plus 2 college exams were postponed to August 2021. Both have now completed these exams, reached the age of 18 and have been signed off by CPS Nepal. All CPS students aged over 12 have received 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccination.

CPS Nepal has continued its bursary programme for 9 local children who are living in poverty to enable them to access a good education. Unfortunately it has again been impossible for the trustees to visit during this period due to COVID restrictions. The majority of CPS funding is by regular donors who have continued their support. The Virginmoneygiving site closed during this period – regular donors who used it have in the main set up a standing order instead. Sponsored events, such as the 2021 Royal Parks half marathon, have again been postponed. 2021 Christmas felt sales did not take place as the trustees were unable to visit Nepal and re-stock supplies. In this accounting period, there was a shortfall of £6,398. This shortfall is less than in the previous accounting period. CPS Nepal has always ensured that there is a healthy reserve of funds to cover 2-3 years’ expenditure in case of unforeseen emergencies, this reserve fund totalling £68,223 as at 31/03/2022. CPS Nepal has sufficient reserves to cover the small shortfall. In addition, fundraising activities will be able to re-commence in the next accounting period now that the COVID situation is resolved. The trustees are confident that CPS Nepal is able to continue to fulfil its objectives and activities as set out in its governing document.

Section F Other optional information

The aims of CPS Nepal for the future are to continue to provide for the physical needs and education of the 18 children who reside at the orphanage.

Section B Disclosure

Only complete if the examiner needs to highlight matters of concern (see CC32, Independent examination of charity accounts: directions and guidance for examiners).

Give here brief details of any items that the examiner wishes to disclose .

As anticipated, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis, the charity has made another loss for year. The loss is lower than that of the prior year.

Regardless, the charity holds 18/24 months’ worth of reserves which for the year ended 31/03/2022 accounts is a balance of GBP 68,223. This more than covers for the average operating costs of the charity and would do so if donations were at nil for over 2 years (donations will not be at nil).

I am therefore happy that the charity is in a strong position to continue.
