We try to adapt lo all srtuations but were sometimes unable lo act as we would wish which was the situation for al in charty ￿gan￿SationS xross the sector. Despite the massive challenges of this Covid 19 Pandem￿ we managed lo construct arKI maintsin some highly posibve connections which continued in a variety of fomis Jfjung people's foster homes. and ccffimunicalion remains as posrtive an experience as aws. As a small ch¥ty I￿rted resources. we ha¥e fxed the hwdest times ever. We have struggled lo a great exient in keeping evtyhing alloat. yel we have managed to do just this by re-thinking our work plans in order lo face new challenges wning OUI Way. Our volunteers continued lo be there for us kee￿n9 thiThJs going. We are aw hopeful that things may one day retum to rn)rmal in these unknU￿1 tirnes. but until such tirne V+e have had to be very resourceful and imaginative in helpir@ keep things mowng and offering contsnuty the best we possibly covkl. We planned and sent out art packages to experienced students who remained isolated in their flats and halls of residences. We conlTrnued to be there to run a number of online groups and scoal media events via ￿tter and faceb¢)ok. Our Tswtter aecounl grew from 3,000 to 8.000 people follthwiNJ so in fact we were reaching a great many people in so many different areas. One member of our leam became unwell. wrth children al home she also found it huge￿ dfftult to continue under these condrtions. Evenlualty we lost this member of staff yel live in hope that one day she will retum to join the team. lrnpxt of Covid 19 During the last part of 2020. the MADS programme forced to cease providing in-person suppcrt when the govemment imposed the first natsonal kxkdo+vn in March 2020_ Realising the potential for siblings to become quickly estranged without regular contact, V4 rects3nised the increased uncertainty, anxiety, and stress the children were now experiencing a5 a result of the lockd(wm, including the potential of the crisis to trigger previous Iraumalie memories for some chikjren. We felt rt imperative to ensure famity links were maintained as much as wssible. Having previous￿ risk-assessed the additthal challenges in taking contact support online. we updated our safeguarding policy for online safety vthen working wth Children. we pro￿d￿ addrtional training lo staff and volunteers through the NSPCC'S Keeping Chibjren Safe online programme. With the crealion of a new Behaviour Code for the childfen coming together online. in April offerirrfj contact support sessions for individual famity group5. through the online plattomi Zcom. Our Volunteers age rnnging from 21- 84 years of age Siblings Together volunteers play a ￿tal role in supporting the staff wtho delNer our contscl support programmes. We were once actNely supporte¢J by approx. 170 volunteers, at Actiwty Days, Residential Camps. Care Leaver Retreatsworkshops or making quills and preparing online resources. Volunteers corne forward from a vasty diverse range of backgrounds. bringrng 3 wde range of skilL% and talents in supporting the chiklren. They bring enthusiasm, passion ard fvn to evtyhing Ihey do. boosting the children'5 Confidence to learn new skills. wllingness lo eLy)erate, devebp stronger sibling bonds elc. They serve as highly positsve role models for the children and y¢)ung people and we cannot speak highly enough of the contribution they make lo the charity. Such is their dedication and commitment, they have all been able lo rise well to the challenge of ncMI supporting us in an online capxty, after undertaking the requisrte add-rtional training. The CEO, Operations and finanee continued to work through thts (J QuilterslQullts The upside to the Pand￿1C has certainty been the case that we have amazingly continued to receive a never ending now of quiks arrimng at our charty daity. This has proven to be a posilTve avenue for us lo keep in constant direct contact with earer and chiktren as well as young care teavers by reaching out to them with these incredible handmade grfts. The number of quits doubled during this year and I belwe over 200 were posted out. People also fundraised for the postsge costs lo help us achieve this. Many young isolated yourYJer Ca￿ leavers conr￿ed with us and 4ain the quilts acted as a ￿allY positive bridge in Communicat￿ll and showng that we. as a charty, care for the weWare and wanted to try assist Whe￿Ver we possibty coukl. People were requesting quits for their siblwigs t¢)0", it gave them an posilive excuse to rneel and lo gift something which held a 9reat p)sitNe meaning for thefn as a famity. We hdd talks with BBC prcducers were k)king at doing a p￿ramme about siblings. we spent many hours on the phone sharing our w(¥k our ideas and the reasons we began this joumey. We do not pul forward young people for such pro9Tammes direcdy as we are often requested. we choose lo protect overall, in fact we are extremety proteclNe of young people in these srtuations wh￿h 1$ our stance. The quifters have shown themsefves to be ineredibty resilient and hugety determined. Despite the pandem they have continued on. offering ￿MI¢)rt to many dozens of the young people we came in Contact with. The members of the company are the Trustees named on page 1. In the event of the company being W￿nd up, the I￿Alty in respect of the guarantee is limfted to £10 per member of the cc*npany. 2.3 Going concern The Charty is relvant upon publK donations and events have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Charty made use of the Governmenfs Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme during both this and the pwous rew)rting periLyJ. The Trustees continue to pfK)rilise fundraising and in particular for unrestricted funds. After making appropriale enquiries arKI after con5¥Jering the future plans of the Charity, the Trustees have a reasonab￿ eX￿talKIn that the Charity has adequate resources to conb.nue in cperab.onal existence for the foreseeable future. Accordingly, the Trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements. 2.4 Fund accounting General funds are unrestricted funds which are availabk for ¥Jse al the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and wh￿h have not been designated for othei purposes. Restrtcled funds are funds vthKh are to be used in accordance with specrfic restriclions imposed by donors or wh￿h have been raised by the Charity for particular purposes.
