together. including supporting children and care leavers through mentoring and undertaking actNilies to

trauma associated wrth entering the care system. The mentsl and emotional heatih and wellbeing of siblings is a

For almost ￿￿1ve years, Siblings Together has *ryked tirelessly lo find best ways lo reunile separated siblings
in care through a range of innovative programs facilitatiny sibling ￿)ntsct, including residential camps, month
actmty days and creative workshops and retreats. We also work closety children's services lo ensure they
are fully informed to take great care before they Separate siblirvJs. We are considered the UK'S leading voice
on issues around sibling separation for looked-after chiklren, wlh the charity being placeil at the forefront in
promoting the'righls of Itx*ed after chilJren' to have regular arKI rneanin9ful contxt wth their siblings.
We slrNe lo prLYmote best practice for the Ca￿ and welkbwng of knked-after children and care leavers during
their time in care and beyond, engaging ￿de￿ Y￿h potty makersl rdevanl stakehokJer5 to advance policies
and practices which support chikdren's T￿hts to maintain sibling relationships and preserve their sense of
belonging and famity identity. During 2021>21 have been having S￿ne discussions wth Ofsled and other
organisalions to look al partnering with them in ddNering training lo their inspeclorale around the needs and
righ1$ of Ic¢)ked-after siblMgs. athough this is yet to lake ￿a¢e due lo restridions so far.
During 2020r21 we put together a var*ty of seThicth to delNer the great siblings work inva￿ed wrth ¢Jur
volunteers and increasiryty small tearn. trying lo respond the best we can and offer high qualty sibling lime
together and re-building relationships. The ￿tinL￿ restrictkjns duriThJ Covtd 19 have placed the charty in an
incrgdibty challenging positKJn trying to constsnty keep abreast with the work we really want to do and what we
would like to achieve with limrted means also. Al limes our leam have been saddened to know children are
gradualty losing their ￿nneCt￿)nS. We try to adapt lo all srtuations but were sometimes unable lo act as we
would wish which was the situation for al in charty ￿gan￿SationS xross the sector.
Despite the massive challenges of this Covid 19 Pandem￿ we managed lo construct arKI maintsin some highly
posibve connections which continued in a variety of fomis Jfjung people's foster homes. and
ccffimunicalion remains as posrtive an experience as aws.
As a small ch¥ty I￿rted resources. we ha¥e fxed the hwdest times ever. We have struggled lo a great
exient in keeping evtyhing alloat. yel we have managed to do just this by re-thinking our work plans in order lo
face new challenges wning OUI Way.
Our volunteers continued lo be there for us kee￿n9 thiThJs going. We are aw hopeful that things may one
day retum to rn)rmal in these unknU￿1 tirnes. but until such tirne V+e have had to be very resourceful and
imaginative in helpir@ keep things mowng and offering contsnuty the best we possibly covkl. We planned and
sent out art packages to experienced students who remained isolated in their flats and halls of residences. We
conlTrnued to be there to run a number of online groups and scoal media events via ￿tter and faceb¢)ok. Our
Tswtter aecounl grew from 3,000 to 8.000 people follthwiNJ so in fact we were reaching a great many people in
so many different areas. Even rf we were unable lo run a camp, lor example, we would be reminding carers and
social workers the impofLince of Continued conlact. even online. May chikjren were gettirg many online
¥pprynlments but made lime for their siblings.

Monthly Activity Days
During 2020-21, our Monthty Actwty Days Programme attempted to ci)nlinue. Oates for starting these were
ever changing.. we simpty wanted to tske the step foThward again to represent sibling families. to have dI￿¢t
quality famity contsct with their brothers and sister at OUT activity days. but this was very m￿h CArt of the
question. most of the lime this was simpty not possible.
Through a variety of chikl<entred. fun actNitss. enabled the children to devekjp and strengthen their sibling
relationships and sense of famity idenlty. Online they wanted lo play games and Ihese developed into regular
Challenges.
The children and young people have been integral to planning the monthty 8ctsvty days. or new skillsfinterests
they wished lo learn wth their siblings. There has been sadfy very occasNJns whore we Could bring children
together due to severe restricts'ons. We Continued online cont* for as long a$ we possibly could, tsyo staff were
furloughed as a support rneasu￿ offe￿d by the government. One member of our leam became unwell. wrth
children al home she also found it huge￿ dfftult to continue under these condrtions. Evenlualty we lost this
member of staff yel live in hope that one day she will retum to join the team.
lrnpxt of Covid 19
During the last part of 2020. the MADS programme forced to cease providing in-person suppcrt when the
govemment imposed the first natsonal kxkdo+vn in March 2020_ Realising the potential for siblings to become
quickly estranged without regular contact, V4* rects3nised the increased uncertainty, anxiety, and stress the
children were now experiencing a5 a result of the lockd(wm, including the potential of the crisis to trigger
previous Iraumalie memories for some chikjren. We felt rt imperative to ensure famity links were maintained as
much as wssible.
Having previous￿ risk-assessed the additthal challenges in taking contact support online. we updated our
safeguarding policy for online safety vthen working wth Children. we pro￿d￿ addrtional training lo staff and
volunteers through the NSPCC'S Keeping Chibjren Safe online programme. With the crealion of a new
Behaviour Code for the childfen coming together online. in April offerirrfj contact support sessions for
individual famity group5. through the online plattomi Zcom.
Our Volunteers age rnnging from 21- 84 years of age
Siblings Together volunteers play a ￿tal role in supporting the staff wtho delNer our contscl support
programmes. We were once actNely supporte¢J by approx. 170 volunteers, at Actiwty Days, Residential Camps.
Care Leaver Retreatsworkshops or making quills and preparing online resources.
Volunteers corne forward from a vasty diverse range of backgrounds. bringrng 3 wde range of skilL% and talents
in supporting the chiklren. They bring enthusiasm, passion ard fvn to evtyhing Ihey do. boosting the children'5
Confidence to learn new skills. wllingness lo eLy)erate, devebp stronger sibling bonds elc. They serve as
highly positsve role models for the children and y¢)ung people and we cannot speak highly enough of the
contribution they make lo the charity. Such is their dedication and commitment, they have all been able lo rise
well to the challenge of ncMI supporting us in an online capxty, after undertaking the requisrte add-rtional
training. Sorne have even volunteered to provKle addrtional suppJrL writing letters lo the chiklren, which the
charity has been able to safety facilitste using a 'LettertK*X' process vthh Siblings Together acting as
inlemediary in forwarding on letters behveen vdunteers and chihjren.
Our funding durtng 2020r21 has sh¢y4¥n a signrfunt One skilled member of our staff took a long
perit%J of sick leave pricf lo leaving the charrty for a new post elsewhere. Wh￿h, gNen our situation. put a great
deal of pressure on the existing tearn. Another member of the team had been on long term furlough, we were
struggling to keep things going fr￿n distant locations and yet we were positive that things rnay one day return lo

and for our abilty to achieve a vision of %that we had set out lo do.

our small team continL*d to plan and keep going. Kn¢Ning also that we would soon be ftrced to leave our offKe
base in the near future, pressure was mounbry for us lo secure a new ba$8. We had begun looking for a new
office space in the midst of a palldem￿. Pri￿ V￿re sky high as we are bc*ed Centralty. Thankfully those who
had given funds had agieed ￿ could use for core fvndiry for us to keep operatsng in the hcpe of seeing a way
through, maintsining the ¢harity stabilrty and staff as besl we ￿lId. The CEO, Operations and finanee
continued to work through thts

The upside to the Pand￿1C has certainty been the case that we have amazingly continued to receive a never
ending now of quiks arrimng at our charty daity. This has proven to be a posilTve avenue for us lo keep in
constant direct contact with earer and chiktren as well as young care teavers by reaching out to them with these
incredible handmade grfts. The number of quits doubled during this year and I belwe over 200 were posted
out. People also fundraised for the postsge costs lo help us achieve this.
Many young isolated yourYJer Ca￿ leavers conr￿ed with us and 4ain the quilts acted as a ￿allY positive
bridge in Communicat￿ll and showng that we. as a charty, care for the weWare and wanted to try assist
Whe￿Ver we possibty coukl. People were requesting quits for their siblwigs t¢)0", it gave them an posilive excuse
to rneel and lo gift something which held a 9reat p)sitNe meaning for thefn as a famity.
We hdd talks with BBC prcducers were k*)king at doing a p￿ramme about siblings. we spent many
hours on the phone sharing our w(¥k our ideas and the reasons we began this joumey. We do not pul
forward young people for such pro9Tammes direcdy as we are often requested. we choose lo protect overall, in
fact we are extremety proteclNe of young people in these srtuations wh￿h 1$ our stance.
The quifters have shown themsefves to be ineredibty resilient and hugety determined. Despite the pandem
they have continued on. offering ￿MI¢)rt to many dozens of the young people we came in Contact with. Over
the year the quilts were at the very heart of al we were doing ar￿ athieving.

pandemic has delayed the launch of these events, k4)k forward lo being able lo inliate plans as we progress

One of the Charitys goals for 2020121 was to recrurf( new t￿￿ee$ with the rethnl skills lo support the existing
Board in realising rts str*egic aims. This has been &hieve(l. ￿t￿ the recruitment of new trustees whose
professional skilL% and experience wll be instrumental to SUPPLWting the Cha￿$ grovrth over the coming year.
However. we are eonstanlly on the look c¥Jt for irKlividuals to join our Board and provide us the benefit of
their v4uable, skills. expefience. and desire.
Over the coming year our team hope to find the fvnds to recruit the wthers f￿ the MADS etc, alOngs￿e our
desire lo be able to take the Buddying forward as we have h*J this on our horizon for some time now. We hope
lo be in further discussions wth one tr trhtj eharrfies who so far seem an bjeal match for us regarding bringing
siblings tojelher for holhlay camps.
Th6 Ch* has aws ¢￿dUcted an Equestrian day wlith ￿nIeS and horses. but we will be looking at how we
ould create a holiday that woukl be r8latNwship enhancin9 using these safe and welkbehaved ponies. Prety
much all our chiklren have taken to this equine experience ¥Ath huge enthusiasm and wth amazin9 memories

2.1 Basis of preparation of financial statem
The financial stat￿ents have been Prepared fft accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021-
Accounting and Reporting by Charrties". Ststement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities
preparing their aecounls in accordance wrth the Financial Repgrting Standard applicable in the UK
and Republr of Iieland {FRS 1021 {effedNe 1 January 20151, the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republ￿ of Ireland {FRS 102) and the C(xTr7panies Ad 21106.
Siblingslogether Limited meets the definitKin of a publt benefrt entity under FRS 102. Assets and
Irabilth'es are inrtialty recognised al histortil cost or transactKJn value unless otherwise staled in the
relevant accountin9 polw.
The Charitys functi¢)nal CU￿r(Y is sterlng. All figures in these financial statements have ljeen
rounded to the nearwt £1.
2.2 Company status
The company is a company ￿rnrted by guarantee. The members of the company are the Trustees
named on page 1. In the event of the company being W￿nd up, the I￿Alty in respect of the
guarantee is limfted to £10 per member of the cc*npany.
2.3 Going concern
The Charty is relvant upon publK donations and events have been impacted by the Covid-19
pandemic. The Charty made use of the Governmenfs Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme during
both this and the pwous rew)rting periLyJ. The Trustees continue to pfK)rilise fundraising and in
particular for unrestricted funds. After making appropriale enquiries arKI after con5¥Jering the future
plans of the Charity, the Trustees have a reasonab￿ eX￿talKIn that the Charity has adequate
resources to conb.nue in cperab.onal existence for the foreseeable future. Accordingly, the Trustees
continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements.
2.4 Fund accounting
General funds are unrestricted funds which are availabk for ¥Jse al the discretion of the Trustees in
furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and wh￿h have not been designated for othei
purposes.
Restrtcled funds are funds vthKh are to be used in accordance with specrfic restriclions imposed by
donors or wh￿h have been raised by the Charity for particular purposes. The costs of raising and
administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restr￿ted
fund is sel out in the notes to the financd stalements.

Expenditure is recc•Jnised once there is a legal or constr￿¢￿e obligation to transfer economic
benefrt to a third party. rt is prcknable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in
settlement and the amount of the obl￿atIon can be measured re1￿bfy.
Support costs are those costs incurr&J diredly in support of experKltture on the objects of the
Charity and in relation lo ¢)verall m￿ageMent of the Charity..
Expenditure ¢Jn raisirrfj funds are cosls incurred in attrathng voluntary income. and those incurred in
trading xb¥￿e5 that raise funds.
Charrtable actmtes and Governar￿e costs are costs incurred on the Charty's educational
operations. including supporb.ng c051s and Msts relating lo the governance of the company
apportioned to charitable actMts"es.
