This year has been a very exciting time for Kingsbridge Youth For Christ. We have seen more young people make decisions to follow Jesus than in any other year this decade. It has also been a significant time of change for the charity as Centre Director Jonny Richmond stepped down at the end of March 2023 after nearly six years in post.

KYFC would like to thank all our supporters over the last financial year; those who support through volunteering and also those who give money towards the work of the charity, either individually or through the 12 churches who contribute. We are so grateful for the ongoing support in these very challenging times.
In 2022-3, activities ran normally and without restriction after 2 years of Covid, when much was put on hold. It was also easier to organise fundraising activities. Both factors are reflected in the year’s accounts.
Income : There was a significant rise in income this year (c. 25%). In addition to our regular giving, a sponsored walk of 25 km along the coast path by KYFC Trustees raised c £1,000, there were many donations towards the cost of taking young people to the Limitless camp, as well as a £9,000 donation for 1 year from a local charitable trust and there were a significant number of other oneoff donations from individuals and local organisations. It was also the 4[th] year of funding by Loddiswell Congregational Church & Malborough Baptist Church for Becky Evans’s post as Rural Ministries Worker.
Expenditure: This also rose significantly in 2022-23. This was partly due to the lifting of Covid restrictions. For example, training for staff and volunteers was now possible & the YFC national annual conference took place for the 1[st] time since 2020. This can be seen by an increase in training costs from £0 in 2021-2 to almost £1,000 in 202223.
It was also now possible to take the KYFC bus out on to the Quay in Kingsbridge to engage with young people after school and serve hot chocolate etc. Hence, a big rise in coffee bar supplies from the previous financial year.
New activities included 2 evangelistic events: Limitless summer camp and regular Sunday evening Unite youth services. Hence, an increase in evangelism: special events from c £1,000 in 2021-22 to over £4,500 in 2022-23.
The national cost of living crisis also impacted on KYFC as we increased staff salaries to keep pace with inflation & our office rent also increased by over £100 per month. However, we were able to save on some of our insurance costs by shopping around. One one-off expense was in paying for job adverts & running a day of interviews for a new Centre Director following Jonny Richmond’s resignation after over 5 years in post. This added £450 to Miscellaneous Costs and around £100 to Catering.
Balance: Total expenditure rose by almost one sixth to £63,776 in 2022-23 (this figure does include £2,983 of depreciation for our bus), but with a total income of £58,137, it does mean that we made a net loss of £5,639 in 2022-23. We had aimed to break even this year, but were somewhat encouraged that we had almost halved our net loss of £10,825 in 2021-22.
Going Forward: It is not sustainable to keep running at a loss, therefore the Trustees of KYFC have resolved to adopt the goal of breaking even in 2023-24 and to introduce the following measures to work towards it. We will aim to increase our income, to economise with our expenditure and to fund capital costs by applying for external grants. Some measures to achieve this are already in place and we are confident that this is achievable for the year ahead without compromising our work with the young people of Kingsbridge and the surrounding area.
