_This year has been a very exciting time for Kingsbridge Youth For Christ. We have seen more young people make decisions to follow Jesus than in any other year this decade. It has also been a significant time of change for the charity as Centre Director Jonny Richmond stepped down at the end of March 2023 after nearly six years in post._

This year Becky headed up a team ol youth

A week before they sel off. we held a prayer

created a daily prayerguide lor the week so that
the churches would beableto support the trip
and we set up a prayer space on social media for
regu lar prayer updates d uring the week.
11 was an exhausting week lor the team but thé
team saw 5 Young people givetheir lives lo Je-

héaled from a fiftéen year long Injury Several
young people were visibly changed through their
encounters with Jesus This has given us
cou ntless opportu nities to encou rage the local
ch urches and we ourselves feel incred Ibly
blesséd to have been a parl In bringing these
young people lo Jesus.

be with us lor the entire year
Going fopward we rocognise that CU is not a
replacement for being a part of a local church

churches in their discipleship of young people
and help tho young people join those church

UNITE
In September we launched ourfirsl Sundayevening youth event, UNITE- an evening of games. lun worship, word and
ministry Again this Idea came out ol the sensethat God was leading us to locus more on discipleship ol young people,
nd having a numberof young people become Christians over the summer. wefell the time was right now lo launch this
event
We developed UNITE lo tackle two main challenges facing our young people Firstly. that there Is currently little to no
youth largeled discipleship from any local church Secondly. statistics from a British Youth For Christ Survey revealed
that although l in 3 young people would like to know more about faith Il asked, onlylox (100011-18s samplodl would go
lo church lor this
We wanted to create a space to bridge tho gap into church lor yo ung people who haven't had any experience of it, but
also loryoung Christians lo worship. hear Iheword and havesomething they could invite their friends to who were in-
lerosted In Ihéirfailh
We ran UNITE once every half term this year- September. December January and Narch Each lime UNITE was held In
a different local church. and alongside a core team. most ol the volunteers came from the host church We intentionally
set it up like this lo create opporlunilies forthe churchos to serveand gel to know Iheyoung people in our town and
vice versa
Each UNITE has seen around twenty young péople attend Aall ol them have come from our CU and the other hall from
our youth clubs and outreach For around half the room. they have neverslepped fool In a church setvice before They
have no undorstanding ol church culture 11 church Is family, then building relationships are absolulelyvilal and we hope
that the young péople become more and more comfortable in this new space through the connéctions Ihoy make with
local church members
The response has been extremely positive. In some cases, we are bring ing young people into churches that haven't seen
this many young people In them for overa decade We really hope that UNITE will also encouragechurches and
catalyse their own outreach lo young people

KYFC would like to thank all our supporters over the last financial year; those who support through volunteering and also those who give money towards the work of the charity, either individually or through the 12 churches who contribute. We are so grateful for the ongoing support in these very challenging times.

In 2022-3, activities ran normally and without restriction after 2 years of Covid, when much was put on hold. It was also easier to organise fundraising activities. Both factors are reflected in the year’s accounts.

**Income** : There was a significant rise in income this year (c. 25%). In addition to our regular giving, a sponsored walk of 25 km along the coast path by KYFC Trustees raised c £1,000, there were many donations towards the cost of taking young people to the _Limitless_ camp, as well as a £9,000 donation for 1 year from a local charitable trust and there were a significant number of other oneoff donations from individuals and local organisations. It was also the 4[th] year of funding by Loddiswell Congregational Church & Malborough Baptist Church for Becky Evans’s post as Rural Ministries Worker.

**Expenditure:** This also rose significantly in 2022-23. This was partly due to the lifting of Covid restrictions. For example, training for staff and volunteers was now possible & the YFC national annual conference took place for the 1[st] time since 2020. This can be seen by an increase in training costs from £0 in 2021-2 to almost £1,000 in 202223.

It was also now possible to take the KYFC bus out on to the Quay in Kingsbridge to engage with young people after school and serve hot chocolate etc. Hence, a big rise in coffee bar supplies from the previous financial year.

New activities included 2 evangelistic events: _Limitless_ summer camp and regular Sunday evening _Unite_ youth services. Hence, an increase in evangelism: special events from c £1,000 in 2021-22 to over £4,500 in 2022-23.

The national cost of living crisis also impacted on KYFC as we increased staff salaries to keep pace with inflation & our office rent also increased by over £100 per month. However, we were able to save on some of our insurance costs by shopping around. One one-off expense was in paying for job adverts & running a day of interviews for a new Centre Director following Jonny Richmond’s resignation after over 5 years in post. This added £450 to Miscellaneous Costs and around £100 to Catering.

**Balance:** Total expenditure rose by almost one sixth to £63,776 in 2022-23 (this figure does include £2,983 of depreciation for our bus), but with a total income of £58,137, it does mean that we made a net loss of £5,639 in 2022-23. We had aimed to break even this year, but were somewhat encouraged that we had almost halved our net loss of £10,825 in 2021-22.

**Going Forward:** It is not sustainable to keep running at a loss, therefore the Trustees of KYFC have resolved to adopt the goal of breaking even in 2023-24 and to introduce the following measures to work towards it. We will aim to increase our income, to economise with our expenditure and to fund capital costs by applying for external grants. Some measures to achieve this are already in place and we are confident that this is achievable for the year ahead without compromising our work with the young people of Kingsbridge and the surrounding area.
