Telugu Association of London Charity Registration Number: 1137074 Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2022
APPOINTMENT METHOD, INDUCTION AND TRAINING OF TRUSTEES
Trustees are appointed by Members in a General Meeting. The Chair of the Trustees is responsible for the induction of any new committee member; this involves awareness of responsibilities, of the governing document, of administrative procedures and of the history and activities of the Association. A new member should receive copies of the previous year’s annual report and accounts, contact details of other Trustees, as well as a copy of the Charity Commission leaflet “The Essential Trustee: What you need to know”.
ORGANISATION STRUCTURE OF TAL AND DECISION MAKING PROCESS
Although the Trustees have ultimate responsibility for the running of the Association they receive advice from the Honorary Governors who are elders of the community. In turn the Trustees appoint Secretaries to take responsibility for organising one of the range of the wide range of activities as well as for financial and administrative support. Secretaries are expected to regularly report back to the Trustees.
RISKS AND INTERNAL CONTROL
The Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring that TAL has appropriate systems of control, both financial and operational. These systems should be designed to provide reasonable, but not absolute, assurance against material misstatement or loss. The new Trustees have recognised that there were major financial and operational risks facing TAL in terms of financial control and governance. They are implementing an action plan to ensure that, as far as is reasonable, controls are in place to protect TAL, its Members, the general public and other stakeholders.

Financial review
FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THE YEAR
During the year TAL’s total receipts of £50,657 compared to previous year of £23,618 due to organising various activities and events after recovery from COVID 19 however the charity made a surplus of £1,968 compared to surplus of £10,664 in the previous year due to spending on events and activities. Trustees would expect to make an occasional deficit as long as these are matched over time by compensating surpluses. Cash holdings remain healthy with £44,274 in the bank at year end.
Full details of the results for the year are as shown in the Accounts.
RESERVES POLICY
The aim of the Trustees is to ensure that TAL holds adequate reserves to allow it to continue its charitable objectives. Since there are neither paid staff, nor premises and since all activities should be self-funding the Trustees believe that a reserve of £20,000 should be sufficient. However, as at 31 March 2022 reserves stood at £44,274. As there are no designated reserves the excess reserve funds will be deployed in the future in support of activities in line with TAL’s objects.
Plans for Future Periods
Trustees are confident the situation will improve in the coming years and the community is growing in UK and would aiming creating an academy for sports and making itself selfsustainable in future times.
Continuing with the existing range of events and activities.
6
Trustees are also aware that they need to improve the Association’s governance and financial systems including extending the online payment systems to reduce cash transactions.
