Our aim isto offer a warm welcome to
any user, so that people feel
comfortable to access the help we offer
Summary
ofthe main
achievements
ofthe charity,
identifying
the difference the
charity's
work has made to
the circumstances
of its
beneficiaries
and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 and, over time, build their own
confidence
and skills, for example via
our English classes (ESOL),to be able
to grow in independence.
Our informal
ESOLclasses are run
twice weekly at present,
with particular
focus on older users who may
previously
have had little or no
language
learning.
Our current
attendance
figures averaged
about 20
each session.
Our sewing classes have proved to be
popular,
with attendance
ofaveraging
10people per session, we are able to
offer opportunity
for users to use
sewing machines
(many for the first
time) while providing
a gentle
introduction
to learning
English.
We also aim to provide a place for users
to meet and make friends with shared
experiences.
Many users report their
feelings of isolation
and loneliness as
newly arrived members
ofthe Hull
community.
users are always free to
come at any time to sit and talk to the
staff and volunteer
as we here to help
as we do not judge people for their
circumstances.
Users are welcome to attend for as long
as the feel they need to.We are very
much a needs-driven
charity.
We have forged strong links with other
agencies and charities to support our
work:
With Hull university
we have the
informal
ESOLclasses which are led by
PHD university
lecture and his students.
We have recently begun a partnership
with Maternal
Mental
Health Project with
a particular focus on those who have
experienced
miscarriage.
Mental health
has always been afocus for our work,
and we are pleased to be able to offer
this opportunity.
We currently
have a consortium
project
with Youth Aspire Connect (YAC) to
encourage
young people from low-
income families to engage
in social
action. We provided free annual trips
either directly or in association
with
Youth Aspire e.g. City ofOxford,
Bridlington
beach and Honeysuckle
Farm. In total we impacted
more than 50
families with these activities.
Through
work with our partners
at the
Pathfinder
initiative we are able to offer
week-long
driving lessons for 16-18-
year-olds.
We are based at Oasis Hub which
means we are very accessible, and can
direct users to other support e.g.,
foodbank which run at the venue. Italso
means we are in an area and building
where people are welcomed
and feel
safe.
People are directed to our service
through:
(Hull CVS) we also have
referrals from current users and former
users ofour service.
