Staggering on broken feet? In a haunting phrase, Frederick Buechner writes about 'lesus of Nazareth, staggering on broken feet out of the tomb ioward the resurreciion. This capiures something of what we might be feeling this Easlertide, with the Iriumphs of the resurrection somewhat broughi into question by the ongoing realilies our world faces.. the stubborn refusal of covid to retreat from our lives, a horrific war in Ukraine, rising cosis of living, and the background sense of fragilily and anxiety we all have to reckon with in today's world It W3$ the theologian Donakl MacKinnon who said that whatever the Tesurreciion is, It cannoi simply be 'the comic reversal of iragedy_ This is religion as a magic cure all, a 'turn to Jesus and all will be ok, a facile misunderstanding of the awful mystery ofthe Crucified and Risen jesus. For the pathway of real faith is always crucifixion and resurrection, death and lil< darkness and lighi. If God's life is an￿hing, it is ihat which sustains us in our darkesi hour as well as thai which lifts us to our highesi promise. In our world it is those who are most at risk that are forced to'stagger on broken feet. through life.. those carrying life-threaiening diseases in their own bodies, short of breath and falling with exhausiion.. elderly bodies broken in by life's hopes and disappointmenis. people of colour, marked by the violent prejudice and fears of oihers bul walking with dignity and honour ihose who are homeless, wilh bodies exposed to ihe harshest elemenis and to ihe taunts olotheTS., LGBT+ b(>dies, vulnerable and misunderstood as sites of con￿MInation and disgus[ but at the same lime colourful signs of diversity and pride. In all these bodies- and in our own- we are to recognise jesus Christ, crucified and risen, the one who meets us in our naked vulnerability and scoops us inio the eternity OF God's love. Here at All Sainis, we are commilted io serve our communily and celebrale the liFe of jesus together, to become a people OF inclusive welcome, celebrating and serving ihe embodied lives ofeveryone who comes our way, creating a space where bodies, hearts and imaginations can come to life again. One of my favouriie depiciions of the resurrection is Stanley Spencer's, 'The Resurrection ai Cookham.. In Cookham Churchyard, Ihe people arise out of the graves, fai people and slim people, short people and tall people, men and women alike. Some brush ihe hair of others or help ihem on with jackets and cloihe% brushing the dirt off each oiher and crawling out of the undergrowth. But these figures 3re Stanley's coniemporaries, very much alive ai ihe lime of his painting. This, for the arlist, is resurrection now 3$ the local community slowly and painstakingly clothes each other in love. And so for us as together we mend our aching bodies and hearts and sl¢)wly come back to life again. By spending time in worship and service, in learning io love each oiher, in creating spaces of dignily and celebraiion, we become signs of the life of jesus itself, as together we stagger'on broken Feet out olthe lomb and towards the resurreciion. Electricity and gas up by £1,5W, we are in the process of changing provider to reduce costs and carbon lootprint. In answer tts Sue Tatton-Brown's question aboul investments, Fr Ryan explained ihat ihe PCC had looked at how io invest well and obuined two flais at Martello Lofis in Portland Road lor £550,000 and we receive £2,000 per month rental. We are endeavouring retain all our investments. Fr Ryan said we have been very fortunate with ireasurers over ihe years especially Tony and now 5anthosh who have got us through lockdown. Appointment of Independent Examiner Fr Ryan Said ihat we have been working wilh Hacker Young and have recenily had a lot of trouble as emails have not been answered. The new PCC will have a look at some new options as we need someone who is on the ball. Safeguarding Fr Ryan reporled that lasl year we passed Simple Quality Protects and now have to revisit it. A full safeguarding reporl was sei oul in the year-book. Vicar's Report Fr Ryan said Andrew james will talk on the.one Bread" café and Peter Hansford will talk about the Sirategic Development plan. We know ihat parishes are feeling under resourced and isolated, and we need io look to the fulure io reverse this trend. In previous years we have built our cmfidence and sorted out some of the Siructural problems wilh our building. We have been pushing to have a vibrant church and discussed our vision at the PCC s first "Away Day" in Chichesier. Each year the Church Commissioners put an amount of money aside in lor Strategic Funding which dioceses can access through a complex application process. We have been part of a bid by ihe dic>cese of Chichester to generate iwo Resource Churches in Brighton and Hove and have recently received the news that we have been successful_ Altogether the project will bring in £2.5 million OF funding over the next five years, and we will receive £765,000. As a Resource Church for Brighion and Hove, we will work from four straiegic areas= Community Engagemeni- the café will begin from the summer with Andrew james as Hospitality Manager, he is also training for the priesthood. There will be a new Children and Family Minister who will build on our already creaiive children and family activities and engagements, including Diddy Disciples and Messy Church. Evangelism and Discipleship- we will have a stipendiary Associate Vicar who will co-ordinate teams, esiablish a new mission training hub and ihere will be new catechetical courses. Transformative Worship- a new Director OF Music will be appointed, Ihere will be new choral scholarships for all ages, 3 choral evensong and we will be involved with the city community choir. Partnership with Others- we will be moving from a parish church to a resource church which reaches oui io ￿Ople_ There will be new apostolic workers and we will create new relaiionships wilh parishes in ihe city and build relationships with loc31 chaiities and community groups. Sarah Henderson will be our new Operations Manager. 'One Bread. café.. Andrew james said that he was a novice at public speaking but hoped that his enthusiasm would make up for his lack OF eloquence. The café project has been over 2 years in development and now with loosening of restricii(>ns it is ihe perfect time to be embarking on the projeci_ We have 3 Fractured community, a great deal of loneliness and this is the time to bring people together which is what we wani ihe café io do. Fr Ryan chose ihe café's name which encapsulaies everyihing we wani it to be. We say we are"One Body- and share in "One Bread" every time we share the eucharist together and they capture the very heari and soul of our faith. My job will be to run ihe café and spearhead the.one Bread project" The café is for us as a church family but also for a larger communily ollamily around us, il will be a welcoming space for all regardless of class background, race, gender, sexualily, age, physical and mental abilily or life experience. We wani to celebrate ihe diversity of this city. We hope it will bring people into the church and help break any 71Page

negative preconceptions people may have. We want it to be 3 safe space where quesiions aboui faiih can be asked, journeys begin and discoveries made ihrough seminars aThJ reading groups. We endeavour that ihe café will be a sustainable and eco-friendly one. As Christians we are called to be stewards of ihis planet and take ihis very seriously. As far as possible we will use local produce, connect with local artisans, coffee roasters, bakers and even a Ioc31 soft drinks producer to make our food and drinks ofFering a true celebration of Sussex which means we are supporting local business while culting food miles. There are four areas that we want to focus on through our-one Bread- project- Food poveriy- We are calld to work for soci31 jusiice as more people are relying on food banks and we want to do what we can to help. Working with Brighion Food Bank we will develop and print cookbooks with recipes using the ingredtnts provided by ihe food bank and these will be handed out free io food bank users io make it easier io make nulritious and iasty meals based on what they receive. The church kiichen will be updated and renovated so ihat cookery lessons can be offered to 8 food bank Ljsers every week. In addition lo this we will signposl lo other forms of support and provide fellowship and pasior31 care to ihose who aitend. We also plan to reach out io residential projects like YMCA and Brighton Housing Trusi through ho¥>itality, cooking and sharing meals with them. Combatting loneliness- Recent statistics show that 45% of adults feel occasionally, sometimes or often lonely. We wani io help combat this by providing a safe and nurturing space for our local communily and by hosting events such 3$ "Bring your neighbour for a cuppa- and pairing up with Ioc31 charities and groups io offer them a space to meei_-Caritas" meals will be reimagined to be inclusive to the whole community, aiming io challenge preconceived ideas and build friendships. These means will be-pay as you can- family friendly and hopefully lun. Working with those in recovery.. We want io help and support existing groups within the city by opening up the café one evening a week io host a "Recovery Calé" and provide a safe and relaxing space for fellowship. We want the calé to offer opportunities to those who might not otherwise get them- It will offer barista training, health and hygiene certificates and catering skills to people with learning difficulties, those coming oui of homelessness and oihers who would oiherwise not gei these opportunities. The café will pair up wilh Grace Eyre, Team Dominica, Sussex Homeless Support and oihers to make it possible. This will not happen over night and we will need ywr help, support and prayers to make this possiEAe. However, we have come $0 far already and il would not be possible with the hard work of Fr Ryan, Peter Millar, Peier Hansford and ihe resi of the Sirategic Developmeni Team. As your incoming Hospitality Manager I feel compelled io include a short quote which acts as a guiding Principle for this project and café from the Rule OF St Benedicl and want this to guide everything we do as part of ihi5 project.. Looking to the Future- Peter HansFord said ihe congregation will know of our long-term ambilion io develop ihe east end of the church, including remodelling ihe vicarage and replacing ihe church hall. The vicarage is planned io have 2 training rooms and the vic3r s office on ihe ground floor, Ihe vicar's living accommodalion on the first floor so he can move from Denmark Villas, and accommodation for 3 pastoral assistants or apostolic workers on ihe second floor with separate access Irom ground level. The church hall is to be replaced with a new modern h311 that can be separaied inio smaller spaces to support our community aciivilies. We will accommodaie tFE nursery, possibly in a new space and hopefully wilh a secure rooftop play area. We are looking io have new offices and meeting rooms some of which we can let oul to local social enierprise generaiing inconE for All Saints. The plan is to have level access all ihe way through from the church to ihe vicarage, cutting out the steps and changes of level making access easier. We also plan to create some exciting outside space between ihe vicarage and the church_ The concept is to bridge the gap between our Iwo lisied buildings the church and the vicarage and to bridge ihe gap beiween our heriiage buildings and the local community. We have been working wilh Purcell archiiects for the revitalising project. We iniend to sell The Parsonage and hope ihat ihe13rgest parl olfunding will come from ihe National Loitery Heritage Fund. We have successfully goi through their"expression of interest stage" and have now been invited io submit a "Developmeni Stage applicaDon- in Augusi this year. We will hear by the end of this year whether we have been successful. Our Naiional Lotiery Heritage Fund applicaiion covers both repair works to the church (external sionework and roof repairs) and changes io the vicarage and hall. funding then the plan is io develop a design For Planning Application submission in autumn 2022, hopefully the building work will uke place in 2023 with completion by mid 2024. 11 is very exciling. PARISH REPORTS Churchwardens. Report What a yearllll It has been a wonderful one bui challenging. As we emerge from the pandemic, most aciivilies are as nearly back to normal as possible. We are so fortunate lo have such an able and charismatic Vicar who appears to have boundless energy. His leadership qualities and thought-provoking sermons give confidence thai the fulure for All Saints is secure in his hands. Fr Ryan has led the parish into its renewed life with ihe amazing new staff who joined us during the last quarier of 2021. Sarah Henderson, our Operations Manager, Dave Stevens, our Director of Music, Andrew james, our Hospitality Minister, R(>se McDermoti our Finance Officer, who works closely with our treasurer, Sanihosh Varghese and Caiherine Halloran our Children and Families Minister, lona M(>rphet our Pastoral Assistani and in DecemEtr Fr Lee Chantler our Associaie Vicar joined us with his family. They joined Sarah Rc>gers, our parish administrator, who keeps the office running smoothly and ol course, Darren, our Care￿ker, who is $0 good and always willing to do whaiever he can to help. It has been such an exciting time with everything bursting into life with all the gifts our new staff are bringing to All Saints. Peter Millar is vigilant in keeping ihe church fabric always in his sight- there is always a leak here, or chunks of stone needing io be replaced ihere, or a Faculty to be applied for_ The lights in church have long been of concern, as more and more high level bulbs Failed - they are mostly done, with the excepti(>n of the spot lights over ihe choir, which will be done soon_ Many ihanks to Peier for all ihis. (Please see Peter s separate report) Christmas was amazing even wilh COVID still lurkingl Dave, the Director of Music, Alan Ireland, the organist and the choir worked $0 incredibly hard. Anne Bawden and the flower team created a be3Utiful display adding to the worship of Our Lord's Nativity. On 5th March, 3$ part of his visit to the diocese OF Chichesier, the Archbishop of Canterbury, justin Welby, visited All saints for World Women's Day io see all the amazing things ih3t were happening with the refugee community around Hove, which Fr Ryan and Andrew had been responsible for drawing iogether. It was a truly inspirational day and the Archbishop said ihat he had been greatly moved by what he saw. Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter were soon wtth us_ On Palm Sunday, Bishop Will, Bishop of Lewes, presided and preached at our liturgy. On Tuesday and Wednesday ol Holy Week we had the privilege of having ihe two Chrism Masses in All Saints. The Bishop of Chichester preached and led the renewal of ordination commitmeni of the clergy present at both of them with Bishop Ruih presiding and blessing ihe Holy Oils on Tuesday and Bishop Will on Wednesday. A goodly number of the clergy ol Ihe di(>cese were present over the two days. The liturgies of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and ihe Easter Vigil were $0 beautiful. The packed church on Easter Day with so many of all ages coming io celebraie the Resurreciion of Our Lord was heart-warming and a real sign that those who say thal the faith is more and more on the wane are wrongl Once more, Dave, the choir and the flower team worked $0 hard to make the church look and sound so wonderful in praise of God. Peter and I would like to express our gratilude to all the members of the congregation who help us throughout the year to do ihe things th31 make our worship so beautiful. Church Fabric and Maintenance Maintenance Work.. Since the last APCM ihere have been no major maintenance works required. Regular checks and mainienance to the Church roolhave kept the roof in satisfactory condition. As the iiled roof is well pasi ils expected life of 100 years regular maintenance is viial and underiaken by our experienced roofer. The Church Hall roof leaks are Siill keeping our roofer busy. A vandal broke several of the railings supporls beside the rear drive and ihese were replaced and the railings repainted. The window catches in the Upper Vesiry have been repaired $0 ihat ihe windows close properly, keeping some pigeons out, and some broken panes replaced. We have inslalled an electronic lock to the Hall outer door, improving security considerably. Church Lighting- All the failed bulbs lover 40%) in ihe church have been replaced, excepi the centre ones in the main aisle ceiling. These lighis have electric winches to lower ihem down for bulb replacement, but the remote control for these has been long losi, and ihe manufacturers stopped making these winches and conirols shortly after ours were pul in placel We have ordered the lighting company to do the bulb replacement which needs a special high level access hydraulic lilt. This project is being planned and should happen soon. Hand Rails to the SW Door Steps= The need for these to be installed was identified two years ago as an urgent Healih & Salety requiremeni now thai we had the SW glass doors in place and ihe café being due to open. So it has proved, with that door being used much more ihan before. Unforlunaiely, Ihe process of getting Heritage England, The Victorian Society, the Diocesan Faculty and iwo levels c>[ B&H Planning Approval has been unconscionably slowl We had ihe designs ready very quickly, so ihis has been frustrating, mostly pursuani to our being a grade l Lisied Building. We have s￿rted ihe last stage and hope io have full approval within 2 months. All Saints Church Repairs - Next Steps: Tranches 2 & 3 repairs to the SE corner windows and parapets above the Spirit Chapel and around the Baptisiery roofarea will now be addressed as a separate pr(>ject, the NLHF funding bid for the Sirategic Developmeni of which they were part having been rejected. We are preparing Cosiings For this w(>rk and will then seek funding. We are also due our 5 yeady Quinquennial Review which our Church Architeci will undertake shortly-, Ihis may add to the work required. In ihe meaniime we will seek separate funding for repairs to the lead roof over the Spirit Chapel and the South Aisle, which have long standing leaks, perhaps including replacement by siainless sieel, though that is m(>re costly. We believe this does not really represent the full community that are 3s$0ciated wilh All Saints and will look inio doing furiher recruitmeni next year. Safeguarding This year we have continued io strengthen our safeguarding policies and praciices at Al15aints_ This is with an aim to ensure thai safeguarding is an integral part of everyihing we do and all of ihe aciivities and evenis we organise. Four areas are of particular note: In january 2022, some changes came into force with regards to Safeguarding training through the Safeguarding Learning and Development Framework. Changes were also made to policies around Safer Recruitmeni and People Management. As ihe Diocese of Chichesier has used SaFeT Quality protecis15QPI for a few years now, we are already in line wilh this and ihe only major change ltsr us is that new DBS checks are now c>nly valid for 3 years rather than 5 years which used to be the case. The Diocese has a certificaiion scheme for safeguarding called Simple Qualily Protects15QPI. We received our full certificaiion in November 2020, and in line wilh ihe requirements from ihe Diocese we conducted our annual review of our certification in November 2021. The SQP protocol covers four areas - l. Safer Aclivities,. 2. Safer Practices- 3. Safer StTUCtures,. 4. Safer People. IL is a PCC requirement to ensure compliance, bul the work is led by ihe PSO. We have made some changes to our processing of DBS checks. Sarah Henderson is now our DBS adminisirator which means ihis process will be streamlined and simplified lor incoming siaff and volunteers. All Saints is in a period of expanding our aciivilies and it is iherefore crucial thai all of our activities are safe for children and 'adults ai risk.. Sarah Henderson and l are in the process OF develc>ping new resources and policies lor the recruiimeni and induction of volunteers_ Depending on role, volunieers will need to complete the 'basic level OF iraining lonlinel as well as being inducted by the PSO and the parlicular stsff member responsible for the volunteering activilies involved. While ihis requires some additional initial commiiment from volunteers, we believe it also enables us to invest in our volunteer base and ensure ihat they feel properly prepared for the roles they uke on. Synne Dyvik Sofeguarding Officer Deanery Synod Deanery synod met four limes and had presentations and discussions on various topics including= Diocesan Synod- Living in Love and Faith., Deanery Mission Aciion Plan Ipresented by ihe Deputy Director for Aposiolic Life, Rob Dillinghaml, Finance, Parish Minisiry Costs and Parish Contributic>ns', and the Hove Trinity Trusi. li was great io be able to meei again in person after a time away, with hospitality shared by St Peter's West Blatchington and our own Church here at All sain￿ and with Luke and Tanya as our representatives. Operations and Facilities It has been a busy year for operaiions at All Saints, welcoming our new team lincluding mell and opening up our spaces to existing and new hirers after muliiple lockdowns during ihe pandemic. In ihe past year, as well as welcoming back many olour existing groups and hirers, we have formed new parinerships wilh organisations including Team Domenica and The Choir with No Name who now use our space on a regular basis. We've also opened back up for conceri hires, including Sussex Symphony Orchesira and Brighton Festival Chorus, and are booked to host Brighton Festiv313gain in May after two year5 of cancellations. It has als(> been exciting io host our own large events, including our Grand Opening for One Bread Cafe and the Reading Beiween the Lines exhibition fft October, and our Iniernational Women's Day event coinciding with the Archbishop's visil in March. With more than 750 people regularly using our site each week, keeping our facililies running smoothly can be challenging ai times, but it's been fantastic tts see what a valuable role All Saints plays as a welcoming space at the heart of oui community in Hove, especially after the challenges of the last two years. Behind the scenes, we have been busy working on our long-term sustainability plans for All Saints, inclLJding plans for ihe redevelopmeni OF our site, and fundraising to supporl this_ Whilst out first atiempi at applying for National Loiiery Heritage Funding was unsuccessful, we are currenily exploring alternative fundraising options to proceed wilh our redevelopment plans. My role as Operaiions Manager has also involved overseeing our SDF- funded projeci, ensuring we deliver on the objectives we set ourselves across our music, children and families and hospiialily ministries, as well as putting the systems and process in place that we need io manage our expanded team. Music and Liturgy The aufumn term began wilh some significani research into music programmes in other ecclesiastical establishments, to investigate what works and doesn't work for oiher churches, followed by a detailed propc>sal for development, which would allow All Saints io meet its SDF targeis, as well as lulfilling its mission ideals. The proposal draws togeiher education and outreach plans w￿h heritage development, under the banner of the 'Vaughan Williams School of Music. This proposal was approved by ihe PCC, and funds allocated. Since then, work on a number of the educaiion elements olthe prop0$31 have been begun= the creation of a junior choir (boys and girls, aged 7-131 a new outreach scheme, using ihe Dutch 'Orgelkids' model These activities are planned to begin in September, and visits are currently being made to schools for recruiiment and planning purposes. Inilial results are encouraging. A'portable, pipe organ which lorms a large pari of the classroom activilies has been ordered, and will be delivered by the end of the summer term. In addition, two further outreach activities have been initiated- a community choir (Brighton Voices} 'Come and Sing Evensong Amongst a plethora of community groups. it was initially difficult to see how a new choir might find a niche, but a local ensemble, Brighion Voices, were looking io re-focus iheir 3Clivities, and they agreed to enier into a partnership wilh All Saints, which means that they make use of our space and staff, whilst taking part in conceris and activities which align with aspecis of All Saints. mission. I'm grateful t(> congregation member Tim Rose, whose initial approach made this venture possible. The monthly 'Come and Sing. eveni provides an opportunity for local singers to take part in a fully-sung Evensong service Irare, in this areal, and experience input From visiting musicians who are naiionally well- regarded. The eveni is designed to be as easy to access as possible - no registration is required, nor regular commiiment- and offers a way for singers wilh too busy schedules to be able to commit to a 'normal' church choir schedule io participate in choral worship. Olcourse, Andrew's wonderful food at the post- Evensong supper is an important and delicious part of this event. Last, bui by no means least, the members of the choir have worked extraordinarily hard, and I'm extremely graieful io ihem for this. We've been able to make improvements in corporaie singing, and expand the repertoire, particularly in the area of mass settings, where we ve been able io drop one or Iwo particu13rly unedifying composilions in Favour of a wider variety - Mozart, Bardos and lernberg $0 far, lor example, and Vierne, Rheinberger and Dubra to come. Holy Week and Easier was a joy- a lot of repertoire, well sung, and in a short space OF lime. Children and Families Since September, Children and Familts ministry has grown and developed, focusing (>n establishing & an iniegraied and inclusive parl olour parish community and worship. We firsi focused (>n restarting Liltle Fishes and increased ihe sessions io twice per week to meet the demands of the Inc￿391ng numbers of young families in our parish. We have had an increase in the number of Children and Families who attend our playgroup, which has led to new families engaging with our other events and church services. Liltle Fishes has also ￿ken c>n a neurodiverse group olvolunteers, including partnering wilh Team Dominica to establish a sustainable work experience programme for their candidates. This inclusive approach io Children and Families Ministry has allowed for people of all ages who enter our space to feel welcomed, and positively influenced by our example_ We have welcomed many children who have SEND, and have lormed positive relationships between our parents, and the Team Dominica candidates who share our spaces. Children's Church changed from every rhird Sunday of ihe month to every week, which has seen a great increase in the numbers of children aitending our church service each week. The children have begun to take on various roles and responsibilities within our sunday mass, including servirE, reading, taking up ihe elements, and welcoming new children and families io our Children's Church family. This April, we slarted our First Holy Communion programme, which currently has nine children belween the ages of eight and eleven, from our Children's Church group. Since February, we have staried up Messy Church on ihe first Sunday afiernoon of each month. Messy Church has become an eveni where our Children's Church, Little Fishes, and Messy Church families have united iogeiher, forming new relaiionships and creaiing links with one anoiher, and with our main parish Sunday mass. We had a successful School trip lake place recently, where we welcomed approximately one hundred and twenty year one pupils From Brunswick primary school. The school ihoroughly enjoyed their visit to our Church, and were impressed by our inclusive approach to Children and Families Ministry, which allowed the pupils wilh addilional needs to Feel welcomed, and to Fully engage and explore our Church with cc>nfidence. One Bread One Bread Cafe The calé was officially launched on ihe 31st of October with a very successful and well aitended launch party, combined with the opening of Anne Grebby's art exhibition. Due to delays caused by Covid-19 and Brexit, il Still look a few weeks until we were able io open the café to the public on the 29th November 2021. Since ihen, the café has been open Mond3ys- Thursdays between 8_30am and 2.30pm serving a delicious selection of cakes and pastries, coffee From Team Dominica, tea from Edge Te3 brewers, soup, and toasiies. All the food and drinks offer from the café comes from local suppliers. We are steadily building up a loy31 customer base of neighbours and locals who regularly use ihe (afé and the opening up of ihe church during ihe day has meant a great number of people pop in to have a look. The café is open during Little Fishes ffuesday and Thursday mornings) which provides an additional customer base. The space is regularly used as a community space for meetings, including English Language Lessons ofFered every Monday for refugees. I have taken on three members of st3fF who work part time in the café. In line wilh our ethos of wanting ihe café io offer employment for those who may find thai difficult, I have hired two refugees and one for whom this is their first job. We have had our walk in by Brighton and Hove EnvironMen￿llY Health Officer who was very impressed with the procedures and due diligence we have in place for our Food Hygiene and awarded u$ 5 Stars which is the maximum we could achieve. Overall, Ihe café has been a great success $0 far. I regularly receive very positive commenis from customers and it is gaining a real foothold in the local community. This has no doubl been helped by us using ihe name of the café for a varieiy of events (discussed below), generating name recognilion. One Bread Project The calé is a pari of the wider One Bread Project, which acts as the major outreach project for All Saints. Since january, I have been busy with a number OF new initiatives, working with other All Saints staff members and ofFering hospitality in various ways_ Here are some olour recent aciivities.. Curry Church - This runs every ihird Sunday of the monih and the One Bread Projeci has offered a delicious Curry Meal after the 'Come and Sing Evensong. Messy Church- This runs every first Sunday of the month. The food offering is supplied by Fatto a Mano, who kindly donaie pizzas to us every monih. Friday Sanciuary- This is ihe biggesi regular event that the project is involved in and runs every fortnight in ihe church. Here we open up the church to refugees and asylum seekers living in the Ioc31 are3, providing a safe space For them io be welcomed into the communily. As a part of the eveni we have a barber come in and give haircuis For free, a free'shop. For donated cloihes, lois c>f toys and games as well 3$ food and drinks. This is a collaboration wilh the InteTnational Network of Women and Sanctuary on Sea, as well as the Brighton Table Tennis Club who have generously donated iable tennis equipment to us. These afe incredibly meaningful and produciive relationships to have built up and we work very well together. International Women's Day- On the 5th of March, coinciding with the Archbishop of Canierbury's visil to the Diocese, One Bread co-organised 3 celebration of Internalional Women s Day wilh the Inlernational Network oFWomen. This was a major success, and we had 3 good few hundred visitors to the church enjoying weaving and oiher arts, foods from around the world, music, games and tc)ys as well as an impressive array of aris and crafts on sale made by local women from the network. This was a truly blessed day and ihe Archbishop called it'church as it should be.. Apostolic Partnerships Since arriving in December, my focus has been split largely between 3 areas of our colleciive ministry. l - Working alongside Sarah Henderson and Fr Ryan to prepare the vicarage for 3 new interns, due to start in Sepiember. There is Siill some way to go bul we've achieved a great deal and are looknng fc>rward to having a group of young people explcting vocation together in commitied, community life. We have produced a video about life at All Saint's Iwhich will be available on the website soon) to advertise for the new positions and will hopefully be interviewing in ihe nexi Few monihs. The interns will be part of our church community but will also spend much of iheir time working in other churches and community groups as part olour SDF engagement. 2 - Working alongside the Aposrolic team at All Sants to support them as they initiate and grow new venlures. INDEPENDENT EXAMINATION – ALL SAINTS CHURCH

We have carried out an independent examination on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2021 as requested. Please see the below notes of matters arising from this independent examination.

MATTERS ARISING

  1. The charity has been awarded a grant from Diocese of Chichester. The paperwork provided to us shows the total grant is £2,500,000 of which the trustees have detailed £750,000 is due to All Saints Church. Please provide us with evidence of the amount due to the charity

  2. The reported net income of £29,150 shows that the charity has been successful in raising funds during the period. Planning should be undertaken to ensure that sufficient activities are planned to utilise the anticipated funds to be received in the next year.

  3. Please provide us with photographic ID of all trustees in order for us to keep on file.

  4. Please confirm if there are any close or connected relationships between any trustees and suppliers. This includes spouses, parents, children or siblings.

  5. If you have access to the 2020 examination report from your past accountant which details matters arising in the year, please provide us with a copy.

  6. Have the trustees carried out and recorded a review of the internal financial controls to ensure they are sufficient. This will include the entry of data on to bookkeeping software, access to banks, approval processes and payments made. It may also include the decision making process for upcoming expenditure.

  7. We have considered the going concern basis of the charity and are in agreement that the accounts should be prepared on a going concern basis. There was no note in the 2020 accounts to confirm this. It is our recommendation that this is included.

  8. There is no note in these accounts in relation to the reserves policy. Please confirm to us what the reserves policy of the charity is so we can include this.
