St. Miehael's Church, Betchworth Parochial Cburch Council Two applications We￿ rw¢ivcd in marc￿ and strictty timetabl￿ visits to IK)th parishes arranged for April 12 . A successful '￿eet the Author session- held in the Church with Tammy Huf on April 15th and the interviews themselves took Pl￿ on April 2￿. Happily. a unanimous decision was reached by the four wardens and the Iwo ￿tron$. We were sworn to secrecy and went into limbo waiting anxiously for the announcement of the apwinknent. By shccr giM)d fortun¢ the Bishop of Croydon was tsking the morning servi¢¢ at Buckland on May tr. the Coronation weekend. and she was thrilled to al￿ounCe th¢ app)inth)ent ofthe Reverend Pru Dulley &s our new Rector. A date WLS set for Pru's Induction and Institirtion at the I￿IDnI￿g of (ktoiw. and plans finalised by the end of May for the DiiKese to adapt the Rcctory to suit Prn's disabled needs. Some adaptation of the ¢hwches was a150 nece&wy as Prn wouldn't be able to mount the Steps to re￿h thc high altar. Accordingly. a new mobile Dave altar was purchas&l and this was accommodated in the nave along with the gift of a Steinway grand piano which Martin Hall bkd acquired from a defvnct Walton church. By xjvw we were also worrying about the impact the Rainwater project would have on our activities, particularly thTee weddings due during this time. The west d￿r was blocked by scaffoldlng alld equipment. All the Brid&s were advis¢d of the restrictions and efforts made to Obscu￿ the affoldtn& which finally arrived at the end of July. As we ¢ntcrgd the holiday pertod ch¢¢ks on progress at the Rectory showed that nothing had been started and urgent rwu&s for action were m&le to the Diocese who no real problem. However, as we were ready to start issuing invitation5 to the Induction, w¢ established th&t th¢ new stair lift wasn't going to be installed in time foT Pru'5 arrival in mid-SepteTnbcr, making it impossible foT her to tske up residence &8 planned. Panic calls to the Diocese reV￿led that the Bishop and Arch Deacon were tKTrth on leave and a delay to the Induction had to ￿ negotiated with a very unhappy Bishop's Chaplain. At this stage spirits were rdtsed by a Ptliars Event in the village hall where "Stars in their Eyes" was produced with amazing t*rfoTmanc4s by our village folk raising yet more funds for thc Fabric of St Michael's. Just in time the Rainwater proje£t was completr￿ although the UDshrouding of the organ was delayrf and the major spring cleaning organised by Pam had to be put back. Nevertheless. by October 24th was finally set for PTU'S Induction by the Bishop of Southwark. A full church welcomed her. and w¢ Started to admire her deterniination as She completed all the Tituals from her wheelchair.
