As a church we believe that the Bible has not only great advice bul is where we can meet Jesus and through Him have a deeper relationship with God. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES THE VISION FOR ST JOHN'S Th8 PCC and Home Gr0h Groups have been looking at our vision and strategy for the n8xI few years with the aim'to creating various documents e.g. a shorter booklet for new people al Sl John's, which will hopefully allow greater ownership and engagement with our vision. This work has not been completed as quickly as we had inilially hoped. Therefore the revised plan is to continue to work o these documents through 2021 with a view to launching il at the beginning of 2022. The vision will
then be communicated to everyone who comes to St John's through all the programmes of church life in 2022. The current vision of St John's slates.. We see ourselves as a Church community called by God lo offer both New Life and Full Life to the people in the Wimborne area and beyond. This challenges each of us to be disciples of the Lord Jesus, so that we become more like Him in our daily lives. St John's Church stands ready to rea¢h out and welcome all who would like lo journey with God, as we commit ourselves to pray, seNe and grow healthy, loving gospel communities across this area, so that many ¢an be reached for Christ. Our vision is outward looking and seeks God's blessing on Ihls area of Wimborne. The Church family of Sl John's are ready lo help and encourage others lo find and know God's love in Jesus Christ. ST JOHN'S PRE SCHOOL Sl John'8 Pre School has been servlng the local communlty for more than 40 years. They provtde pre-school education for children aged 2 years up lo school age, meeting every moming and two afternoons, in term lime. al Sl John's Church Cenlre. Sl. John's Pre School aims lo provide an inclusive and child-cenlred selling with a safe, carlng and stlmulaling envlronmenl In which children can play and dlscover the world around them. This is done within a Christian envirDnmenl and eth05 that respects the diversity Df cultures, races, religions and children of all abillties. WORSHIP AND PRAYER The chief end of God's poople is lo enjoy God and worship him forever. Therefore, worshlp and prayer are al the heart ol the work of the PCC. The PCC ensures that approprlale arrangements are in placo for publlc worship and provides an opportunity for people c>1 All ages to meet for worshlp and prayer. One practical way Ihls can be èxpressed Is through small group actlvily across the church. MISSION AND OUTREACH The PCC hBs an important part lo play in promoting the mission of our church, arnongsl the congregation and in the wider community, and members of the PCC demonslrale Iheir commitment lo the Christian ethos, through leadership, by gxamplo and by wilness, in Ihe parish. Thg PCC is encouraged lo develop and malntaln the Parish Proli16 - to review the life ol the church an¢J identify mission opportunllles. One of Ihe PCC sub- commillees is focus88d on Outreach, although we have bèen unable lo devalop any inllialiv6s during 2020 due lo the Pandemic. We encourage every member lo be Involved In personal evangelism. We held a series of very successful 'Real Lives. gvents in October 2019. Thi5 gave an opportunity lo invite people from our communily lo hoar real stories from people who have been changed by Jesus. We plan lo hold more of these style events during 2022. PASTORAL CARE The PCC and 115 rnembers have a duly lo support their clergy, prayerfully and personally. Thgy have a duly lo support the members of the congregation and lo extend a welcome lo all who visit the church, lo membors ol the church community and lo those visiting the church al other limes. The church has a duly of pastoral care lo all who live In our communities, whether members of the church or not, Including visitlng the sick and the bereaved and PCC members are expected lo t8ke the lead In demonstrating that care. ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE IN THE YEAR: A detailed report from all areas and activities of the church lire is produced and presented to the Church 81 the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. A copy gf thls report for April 2020 may be obtained from the Church office lal the address Dn page 11. FINANCIAL REVIEW OF THE YEAR In 2020, Sl John's surplus was £5,85112019.' £15.604 defiall. In 2020 lolal Incom6 grew by £19.35514.6Q/.I and lolal èxpenditure deGrea80d by £2,338 Iless Ihan 10/.1. However, Ih6re have b86n quite significant movements in various categories within these lolals compared lo the Previous year. Within lolal expenditure, the Diocesan Quota increased by £7,840 18.80AI, Global Action payments lo partners increased by £5,342 18.5 % I WheaS Utilities decreased by £5,729 135.5.1.1, Office and adminislralive costs reduced by £6,515 114.0°1DI, and Events and Outreach expendilure reduced by £5,333 {67.0°h} largely due to the restrictions Caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The principal income reIVed by St John's Is from the Glvlng Scheme Islanding orders, envelopes & Incl. lax on gift aided giving), which in 2020 amounted lo £274.223 12019= £261,186). The fact that this income increased by 5.OOh during 2020, despitè th& uncortalnlias caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic is extremely encouraglng. The Church building was required to clos8 for a numbgr of months during 2020 and as a result of this Church collections, hall lettings, events, youth and children's inwmes decreased substantially by £15,178 168.7%). This impact was partially recovered by being able lo make claims through the Govemmenl's Job Retention Scheme for a few of our staff members. which totslled £6,760 for the peiiod. The finances of St John's Pre-school are necessarily included in the PCC'S financial slalemenls. together wllh the Nursery Education Grant, which 15 received from Central Government through Dorsel County CounGiI. A non-slalutory note to the accounts of th8 Pre-SchcK)I's notional finances is providèd for clarity. Reserves Pollcy Staternent Sl John's PCC Reserve Policy is for the majority of Incomé receivèd in any year lo be expanded in Ihal year. The PCC deems11 prudent lo hold a reserve equivalent lo 3 months expenditur8 s8181 £64,000 for 2020. ThSs reserve is to mS1igale against a sudden drop in income. a8 w811 as lo provide for unforeseen em6rgency expenditure such as urgent unplanned building works, not covered by insurance. During 2021, a project lo renew the external and internal church lighting is being undertaken. A contribution of £20,000 is being kept in reserves for this purpose. Also, the Building Management Committee has a five year plan12021-20251 of "Gapilal. building works. For Ihis purpose a furthèr £100,815 is held in reserves. The PCC also holds a s¥parBle reserve for its Pre-school aclivilies. This is set al £40,000 lor 2020. This is mad8 up of £20,000 belng one term's expendllure; Ihls Is In-1Sne with charlly commSsslon pre-school guidance. Further Reserves held are: £10,000 in case ol a significant reduction in demand for places, particulady due lo the current pandemic, and a further £10,000 in case ol the need lo relocate the Pre-school for a peilod of lime while signllicanl repairs lake place lo the church hall. Sl John's Pre.School Committee makes the managemtnl decisions which ensure the efficient running of the Pre-school. This commilleo will also consider and make re¢ornmendalions for Ihe approval of the PCC ovor how any surplus funds above the reservg limit might be managed, once all costs have been covered. This reserve policy will be rgvlewed annually. Rlsk Management Poll¢y We believe that Sl John's Church, Wimborne should be a welcoming and safe envlronment for all people who come into contact with us whether as employe&s, members, visitors, children or 8dulls. The Standing and Building Management Commillees have examined the major operational and financial risks that the Church faces and confirm that systems havè been eslablishtsd lo minimisè such risks. Rlsk Analysls Rlsk management Is recognised as an important Issug and the major risks lo whlch the Church is exposed, as identified by the Iruslees, are revigwed annually and syslems or procedures 8slablished to manage those rlsks. Ongoing risk assessments to ensure that our operations a Covid-19 secure arbd in line vwilh Government regulations. SucsSful management of business and operational plans. Risk Strategy The following strategy and actions are used to mitigatts the above risks.. There are Child Protection and Hèalth and Safèty polici8s in placè, and Ih8re is a designated Fi Protection Policy. A naw Health & Safety Policy was presented to the PCC and adopted in November 2017. This is reviewed al least annually and adapted as necessary. The Stsnding Committee 8nd Buildings Management Group members re1ve regular financial reports and these are also provided at PCC meelings. The infom)alion provided is subject to constant review lo ensure they meet the needs of Sl John's Church, Wimboine. A r6vised Safeguarding Policy and Policy slalement were approved by the PCC on 25 January 2021. On 16 November 2016, the PCC adopted and supported the implementslion of 11 The Church ol England, Praclise Guidance.. Safer RecrLJitment July 2016 and 21 Dlocese of Salisbury - Safeguarding Training, Leaming and Development Policy lfrom 1 July 20161. Insurance cover was reassessed Sn 2008 lollowing Inclusion of the Pre-school and a full revlow was performed in June 2015. The long-lerm agreement with assoclaled dlscounl has been renewed for another 3 years, explrlng in June 2023. PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS Sl John's Vision document details the church's aspirations for the next four years summ8rlsed as follows.. To sow the seed of the Gospel into the lives Df the people we meet, throu9h activities lor children, youlh and adulls., To see an increase in personal gvangelism shown through morg leslimonies of Gospel conversations and more people being inviled lo oulr9ach events,, To train up volunteer leaders In every area of ministry who are capable ol assisting in that area, explaining the Gospel and engaging with people's questions. The Buildings Man8gemenl Group have an ongoing five year plan of property mainlenance priorities across all buildings under the stewardship ol Sl John's PCC. This plan is reviewed at bimonthly Building5 Management Group meetings. As part of this plan there 15 an ongoing major project being planned lo upgrade the maln kitchen and renew the internal and external church lighting. The p¥oposed kitchen upgrade will give u8 new opportunities to expand our hospilalily ministries. A recent report highlights Some concerns about Ihe salely of the church lighting.
