The CI￿Ult owns two manses. One of the pr&sbyters lives in their own propety. The Circuit is in th¢ process ofpurchasing a th]rd whith be reTht￿l out until it is rquir&J. The purchase of this propw is being fjJnd¢d by the sale of two maDSeS which had beffl sold by the fornier Darlington Methodist CircuiL neither of which met the slandards requi￿1 by the Mcthodist Church. As with churehe4 Circuit owned manses are subject to quinquennial surveys. There is an approv￿ budget for maintenance of the manses. The Circuit Manse Seoetary deals with any recommendations made in the quInqu￿nIal report and any day.ttrday maintenance issu&s that arise. The foTrner DarlIng￿n Circuil had employul its lay wod(ers centrally, whereas in the fomier Barnard Castle and T¢esdale Circui¢ lay WOTkffi3 we¥e attached to specific church&q. Following a review, and with the exception of the Children and Young People's WorL it had been a￿eed to adopt the model of attaching lay Workers to specific thur¢hes, or groups of thurch&s to build local comrnunity partnerships to discern opportunities for ￿mMunity outreach as Local Church Community Developrnent W0￿erS (LCCDW). Takingthis a step further, the Circuit decided to create thiee new LCCDW post& two of which were iTansitioneA] from the fornieT Pastot21 Missioner posts. One post (scrving Elm Ridge and Cockerton CburthL%) is fflled. The other two (one serving Barnard Castle, Barton and Staindrop Churches and the other serving Harrowgate Hill. Cottllnunity and Social Outreach work has develop￿ at The Well to such an extent that it was agreed that two new rolas (fijnda initially by the Circuit for a limita period) should be created- that of a Pioneer Minister and a Community Hub Manager. with the p)sts to commence on I Septembtt 2023. As a matter of policy, the Methi)dist Church pays the Living Wage to its Lay Workers. Mindful of the Cost of LiTring Crisis. the Cir¢uil a￿eed to bring forward in]plementation of the increase due on l April 2023 with th¢ new rdte paid from l December 2022.
