Recrultment and Appolntment of Dlrectors Dlrectors are appolnted to the Board on recommendatfon and according to the Articles of A5soclatlon. Rlsk Management The Directors regularly review the major rlsks that face the Charity and are of the opinion that based on current student numbers and level of resetves held, combined with the contlnual review of the controls over financial systems, sufflclent resources are available in the event of adverse conditlons. Ob ectlves and Activities The Charity IMHCPC) was established to providè or facllltate educatlon and tralnlng In psychotherapy and counselling and the relief of indlvlduals suffering from emotional dlfflcultles by the provision of an affordable counselling 5erYice thmugh Its Counselling Referral Service ICRSI. Initlal referrals are made by both the NHS and from mental health organisations. Patient5 may also self refer. Slnce its inception, the CRS has seen numbers of requests for assessments Increase year un year with a hlgh uptake of referra15 tnade. This increase Is expected to continue as NHS resources are reduced. The Covid-19 pandemic ha5 resulted in a slgnificant increase in the uptake of the 5ervice5 provided by the CRS. and a move to deliver all clinlcal work remotely slnce March 2020. Everyone referred to the CRS undergoe5 an In-depth assessment with an experienced psychotheraplst. The appllcant's emotional resources are carefully considered and thelr financial resource5 are addressed arKI taken Into account prior to their being referred to a sultable therapist. The CRS is able to offer low-cost, on-going psych¢￿YnaM7C counselling. making referrals to both experienced gradua¢e5 of the trainlng programme and secc￿￿ and third year Diploma Course students, who are carefully superYi5ed in preparatlon for completSon of the qualifying Diploma Course. Thls has enabled the MHCPC to develop a section of the CRS into a separate but linked clinical placewnent wlthln whlch student5 are able to accrue sufficient supervised clinlcal hour5 In preparation for qualification. All of thls ensures that the needs of the patients are addressed, the standards of the MHCPC are maintained and the requirements of the Britlsh As50ciatiDn for Counselllng and Psychotherapy (BACPI and the British Psychoanalytlc Ct)uncll IBPCI are fulfilled. Patients are informed at the assessment Stage if they are to be referred to a senlor student and the referral Is made only wlth the patjent's agreement. Referrals contlnue to be made to graduate5 and other experienced therapist5 when deemed approprlate and the acceptance of a referral incurs a fee paid to the Service. The MHCPC continues to offer a one.year part-time Certificate in Counselllng Skills Course and a three-year part.time Diploma In Psychodynamlc CounsellTng and Therapy in the Community. It also runs a varled Continuing Profes51onal Development,ICPDI Programme whlch attracis experienced speakers and continues to offer an Annual Lecture whlch is open to the public. The fees for all C￿r5e$ are set only to cover operational expense5 whlch include tutors, f5. [￿e to the Covld.19 pandemlc, the MHCPC tralnlng programme has been delivered remotely slnce March 2020. The trainlng programme wlll continue io be taught online until a safe return to face-to.face teaching Is deemed possible. Graduates of the Diploma Course are now worklng as counsellors in the communityj In hospitals, mental health agencies and GP surgeries as well a5 wthln the CRS. evements and Performance The MHCPC contlnue5 to provide a comprehen51ve tralnlnq programme for StL￿ent counsellors ensuringy at all tlmes, adherence to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselllng ProfessTons. and the BPC CLMJe of Ethics. It a150 has an established counselllng referral servfce ICR51 referred to above. Students and graduate5 of the Diploma Course continue to provlde regular. on-golng> supeNised psychtxlynamic counselling for patients, referred by the Primary Care and Mental Health agencles. This facility Is much appreciated by local GP5 whose patlents are unable to afford help in the private sector and by other mental health agencles whose fundlng cuts have reduced their capacity to meet the indiwdual's need for open ende<i cwnselling. Students receive 5upeNtslon of thelr clinical work both in-house as part of their training and post- graduatlon as part of theSr on-going prDfes5ional development. The MHCPC has built on its good reputatlon and sound, well respected trainlng programme ty.
