This chariry is custodian of both the land and buildings of St Peterfs Church of England Primary School (Fabiins Way, Henfield, West Sussex. BN5 9PU). 2nd the proceeds from the s21e of the former School buildings and land on Henfield Common. These are held in cash and investmencs. We have a wric¢en Health and Safety Policy which identifies rhe general and Specific arTangetnents that are in place to ensurÈ. so far as Ss reasonably pratcieablq Ihac our activicies are carried out safely and do not pose a ri511 to the health of our employe￿, volunteers, £on8re8ation, visitors and other5 who may use the church, ehurch yard or bulldings we are responsible for. These arrangements are in accordance with good praciice 2nd relevant st2CUtory provisions where they apply. In addition co the Health and Safety Policy, we also have a spectfic policy for the evacuation of a church in an emergency. Thts covers all three of our parish churches. Tht churchwarden5 have day to day responsibility for implementing these policies, overall responsibility lies with Pat rdock who is our Health and Safe¢y Office. However, all employees and volunteer5 have a responsibility to take reAson2ble care of themselves and others while on church bvsiiiess or premises and to comply with all safety rules and procedures. This year has seen the removal of the many restrlctlons and measures In place for the pandemlc. Thls has been done with taution and eare, and in line with the adwce Riven by the Church of England. All changes h2ve been communicated to the congregations in adwance, %iving people an opportunlty to ra15e any concerns or quesEions. Our buildings and grounds are regulady checlced to ensu￿ they are safe. All concerns raised durirbg the year are assessed and addrÈsgÈd atcordin81y. Doto Protertion (GDPRI As a parish we continue to refiTre how we collect, hold, process and ijse person31 data. The PCC h5J.s in place a Data Privacy notice which explains, among other thing5, the purposes for which personal data 15 held. how it is used how long It is kept. With this in mind two new Sunday afLernoon serwices have been introduced this year. There is now a'songs of praise, $eNce at Wo¢dmancote on the first SuF)day of the month, and a family friendty 5errfice at S¢ Peter'5 Henfield on the third Sund2y. Enriching our worship through music. Music is an integral part of our Worship and having appointed both a Choir Director and Organist in November 2021, our alm w>s to re-Èsrablish 2 choir. After a few ye3rs without a choir, a regular choir started singing togerher in Seprernber 2nd now sings at tsne gr more regular servlees each month a5 well a5 'special' services. Work to establish both a Children's choir and Youth choir is underway, and we hope that this may be possiblo In the near future. Not only does chis enrrith our worship but also provide$ 2n opporruThlry for people {who may not be regular ehurch goers) to 8et Snyolved and play an acclve parr in the seNce through the music. This has been installed at Henfield. and the WI-FI has been upgrnded. This project has been in the planning a knng time and is a great 2chiÈvÈment. It will help us con5ideTrbly when St Peter's School come Into Chureh Éo worship {it will no longer be necessary to print numerous pa￿r copies of the service 2nd will also be put to good u52 for the new Family Service. It also fatilitate5 the live streaming of service, fvnernls and weddings, enabling us to reach and connect with the wider communiry including those who are house bound. Outside lighting and new slgnoge ot Woodmancote. The installation of low lighting 21ong the footpath was due to be inStal￿d in November but wa5 delayed by bad weather. This wtrrl¢ has now bee￿ completed. The new lighting will encouTrg£ and benefit those attending services, particularly during the winter months. The new signage wll be in place soon. and will communicate more clearly the services of the church. Toilet facilitles ot Shermonbury. The project to build a stnall acce$5ible toilet at St Giles, Shermanbury, has also been completed this year and the work has been done to a very high standard. This will benefit noc only Ihe regular congregation but also those attending weddingsy funerals etc, 2nd wll hopefully enable more events to be held at the church. It will no longer be necessary to hire in toilet facilicies. Connerting with people not only in our churches but in the school and in the communlty. The PCC recognises ¢hp. value ol the church Coming together with local 8roups to work together for the benefit of others. With limited resouKes this if often 8 more powerful and sustainable oprion than working in isolaLion. Tlirough this type of dlscipleshlp we can represent le5U5. This wa5 che approach taken In Mayi when the church met with a number of key organisation in the village to co- ordinate th¢ suppon lor Ukrdinian réfugèps in the tommuni¢y. One of the initial tasks thac we undeirook wa5 to host Sacurday caffee morning for sponsors and their Ukrainian guests. so as to enable people to meet and as an opportunity to ask our guests what support they needed. Working toward o more Eco frlendly church. We aim ¢0 be IV￿re 'eco' both in terms of reducing carbon emissions (in line with the Church of England fdrgeL of netc zero by 2030} but also more generally by implemendng environmenr care in to 211 aspects ol our church life and mission.

In due course a group wlll be fomied £0 take somè ofthe ideas forwdrd. We contlnue r¢ work with local communiry groups in thls 2rei Mondging and growlng our Ilmhed resource& and encounJging more volunteets. The PCC is responsible for rdising the funds necessary ts> carry o*rt'mission' work This is achieved through fund raising but ilso through the promotion of regular givingi donacion5 and legacies etc. We rely heavily on the money tdndly donited by our parishioners and others, and on people undertaking voluntsry church work. A key aim is to encourage mre voluntsers and to concentrate Ilrnlted resources on delivering those attlvltle$ of most beneflt the community. In 2022 a contactless donation device wa5 installed in the church at Henfield to facilrate giwng. The PCC also agreed a Legacy Poliey which will hopefully allay any lears that people may have about leaving a legacy to the thurch. New YoluHceers came forward to help with the LTttle Fishes group and the BereavemEnT Support Group, and many people from all three churches helped with rwo of our mwn fundraising events.. the church fete and the Garden 2nd Arts weekend tafe. 1¢ would be good to recnjit some additional Voluntee￿ to help with the monthly Comrnunity Lunch at the Haven. The PCC recognise5 the constraints that preven¢ petsple from getting invofved. Throu￿ all our work we continue to be guided by che Diac£%an wsion and associated act50ll5 that invite us w become more converted to jesus Chrrist, 2nd to be more open, more generous and more engaged. We ¥e comrnitted to supporting this vision whieh informs much of our work in this parish. The PCC retnains committed to paying the full Parrish Share. The following changes occurred.. The removal of many ol the imposed COVID-19 restrictions occurred in january 2022. This vra5 communicated In a pastoral letrer sent out to the congregations. in which Pzul offered his heartfelt thanks for the patience, perseverance, love, and prayer shown by the congregations during this tough time. Further changes were rnade in April when 'simultaneous communion. was introduced. and in June when we returned to receiving the wne direct from the chalice. Th8 change agreed by the PCC to regularty hold the 8.3(lam Sunday service at Henfteld, Fnstead of llcerttating it between HÈnfield and W¢￿￿anC0￿, was implemented in january 2022. A new start time of 9.45 am for thÉ Maln Sunday seryice at Henfield was a150 implemented in january. Thankfully. the clergy now have $ufficrent time to tttvel to either Shermanbury or Woodmancote for the I1.15a￿ 5ervlce. The now Songs of Praise seryice, based 2round hymns chosen by tnembers of our three congregations. began at S¢ Peter's. Woodmancote in September. Thi5 ha5 attractsd gotsd attendance. ThÉ anniveT5ary of the Queen's Acce55ioD was marked on the 6th Februiry with 2 service of Evening Prayer using the traditional words from the book of Common Pr2yei'. Injune, all three churches held 2 service to mark the Queen's PlatlnumlublleÈ.' at Woodmancote alubilee e¥Ènsong Was held with tea beforehand, and a Thanksgiving Seryice for the Queen held at both Henfield and Shermanbury. In September. following the death of Her Majesty the Queen. all three <hur¢hes held 5ervice5 of ThanMgI￿ng and Commemoration. Children's Church Children church ¢al<e5 place on two Sundays a month12nd and 4th) in Church House, with the children coming in to church before communion. The te2m that runs Children's Churth Continues to work hard to prepare and provide fun activities through which the <hildren can learn about]esus. The PCC reco2nis&s the amount of work involved and is very grateful. The nurnbeT of children attending is disappointingly low, but it is hoped that this wll grow 2ga¢n over time. The PCC continues to explore wdys to encourdge the farnilies whg attend the LitLle Fishes preschool group to engage with Children's Chureh when their children start school. Several families come to church on a Sunday prefer the option of staying in the church with their young children, for the service. They are very welcome. It is hoped d)at new'teacime. service once a tnonth will amct farnilies who cannot attend an a Sunday moming. The new piano was blessed by Paul ar thÈ Sunday Service on 4th September. It is responsible for the ncmnination and approval rhe 7 Foundacion Governors who represenc the churcli 2nd who work to ensure the school develops wich this Christian ethos in mind. Rev'd Paul is 2n ex-officio member of the Governing body and is currently Chair of the Board of GovÈmors. In july the PCC approved the re-2ppointmÈnc of Dave Carter as a Ftsundarion Governor. He is a secondary school head teacher at 3 Roman Carhollc Academy school wlthin the diocese. It is becoming ivcrea5ingty difficult to find Foundation Govemor within our immedi&te locality. It was lovely to have the school attend Sc Perer's church. Henfield for Harvest In Occober and Chrixingte in December. There was no 'Art in Advent, this year. This is to be held every rwo years so hopefully in 2023 we will be able to enjoy and celebTrte wich the communiry the cre3tiVlty of the school children. Tht PCC continues to txplore new ways of supporting 2nd conneccing with thc school and school families. Plans for launching a children's choir hive been discussed with the school and we will continue co wort< towards this goal in2023. ljttle Flshe The'Little Fishes. group for babies, pre-school children and their parentslcarers has contirjued to attract Thew f3rnilies. At the start of the year the￿ was on average 20 adulrs and 20 children attending. by the end of the year this had grown to 25 adult5 and 30 children. The group meets ON a Friday between 9.30 and I 1.00. The sessions. which are free of ch2rge, include Stories, singingb activitie5 and refreshment5, whith parents and carers enjoy as tnuch as the children. The weekly session run by Rev'd Heather. with the help of Pat Burdocl James Whittle. lan Poole. Di Johns(xi and Shirley Abbott. The group has been a fattor in the significant increase in the number of Baptisms. This is realty encouraging. The PCC thanks all those involved in this important work. Distributors were encouraged to pass these on and copies were given to businesseslshops in Henfield High Street as extra publicity. Ninebarrow perforrned at St Petels church to a full audience which included 2 large number of people from outside tfie village. At Shcnnanbury, the 'Br3hnis in the Boneyard con¢ett joriwnalty 5cheduleei for summer 20211 took ptrace in july. Woodmancote and The Friends of St Peter's Church, Henfield, both had stalls at the Charities Fwr held in November at Henfield Village Hall. The Woodmancote stall followed the theme ol, Chris¢ma5' and Ihe Henfield Stall that of 'Chocolate. Both proved very popular. Financial Review In 2022, Several important projects came fo fruition. The mosc extensive of these was the construction of a brick-built toilet adjacent to St Giles, Churth, Shermanbury lor which the Friends of St Giles had obtAined significant amounts of grant fundin8. Another projeccw3S the installation of much needed lighting and other work in Woodmèncote Churchyard {being completed in 20231 Various items ar HÈnfield Church, such as installation of a screen and projector. & nÈw piano and an altar frontals thÈst and exterfor work a5 specified in the most rÈcÈnt Quinquennlal report, were also UTbdertaken. 17

Some of chi5 expenditure was paid for from external grants but it w25 also necessary to resort to our unrestricted funds. For the first time in three years, it Was possible to hold our summer fete in 2021 which holped to boosi General Fund income. We 4ain bÈnefiied from generous legacies, this year receiving a Total of some £19.000 which is gr3rifying. Unfortunately, in line with generdl market ￿￿nds, we suffered a net loss on our invesrment5 of approximarety £46,000. Despite this. dividends In¢￿ased by over £3,0(￿ compared Kqth the year before. The value of our Unrestricted Fund investments now stands at £390.464 wth the equivalent figure for Endowment Funds being £61.932, 2 combined total of £4S2.396. Incomé During 2022. total receipts from donations and legacies, 2nd other incomc on gcneral unrestricted funds were £158,089 and are detailed In the Financial StateTrMents. Our main income is regular planned giving from members of the church congregavons, which amounted to £51,840. This was a reduction of just over 4% compared with 2021. The PCC was again extremely grateful to all who contributed financially to the parish throuth planned giving and collections. The Parish Giving Scheme, whereby church members can give to the church regularly by direct debit. cononue5 to work well. We urge new contriburor5 to consider using this scheme which enables us to receive donations and gift aid within ten days of the donation being tollected from the members, accounts. This is a very efficient way for both the wver and the church. The PCC will continue ro promote its use as part of a wider str2£egy to maximlse our income. The tottl amount of Restricted fund income received during 2022 was £19,515 and mainty irose from legacles, grants. fundraising and donations for specific purposÈs. Within unrestricted income receipts ol £171,4S6. the parish benefits substantially from other income {known s 'other trading activities,) of £36.883. ThÈs includes fees for weddings and funerals1£8,7981, sales of the partsh magaxine and advertisement fees (£17,684) and rent received from propercy gnd from letting Church House in Henfteld (£10. I S I). Expendlture Total payments from unrestricted funds were £264,971 and are also detailed in the Financial Statements. Allowing for losses on investments and transfers between fund5 the net movement on unre5CriCted funds resulted in a deficit of £121,409. The largest expenditure for the PCC was the Parish Contribution to the Diocese to cover ministry cos(s. This amounted to £76.967 {1 00% of the ftgure 211ocated by the Diocese). Thls sum covers the c051 ro the parish of the housing, stipend, national insurance and pension costs of the clergy and includes a contribution towards Diocesan and national church costs. It remains PCC policy to strive towards paytng I 00% of Diocesan costs. By far the L2rgert expenditure irem was renovations at £151,096. Sraff, upkeep of servlces. chureh running ÈxpensÈs and upkeep af the two churchyards in Henfield and Woodmancote &re the next largest items of expenditure cotaling £51044. These c05t5 include caring for the fabric of our three grade 2* listed buildings. The closing balances in the unrestrle￿d. rescrfcted and endownent funds as of 31 December 2022 were £596.847. £32.135. and £61,932 respectively. Total funds stood 2t £690,914. Reserves policy and Investment Poll The PCC reviewed its reserves policy in 2020 and agreed to maintain an unrestritted cash balance on the Genetr21 Fund thac is equivalent to 3 months of unrestricred expendityre. currently £50,000. The PCC believes that to re2lise its abjectives using in a multi-asset pooled ￿nd, for example that offered by the CCLA Investmenr Fund or M&G Nulti Asset Fund for chlrities, in whlch many Church of Englxnd Parishes invest, would meet its investment requirements. Polne Endowment For many years, the value of the Paine EndowmenL a Stipend Tru5L has been included in our balance sheeL Originally, the income from (his investment would have been paid to the Parish of St Peter's Church, Henfièld. BUL since the Endowment and Glebe Measure of 1976. when responsibility for payment ofstipcnds vras transferred to the Diocese of Chichester, we now neither receive any dividends nor would we be entiiled ta any of the capital if it were ever possible to realise 1¢ Continued inclusion of the value of the Paine Endowment in our 2ccounts Mi￿1t, therefore, be thought misleading. For this reason and followng advice from both the Diocese and our accountants {Taylorcocks), the PCC ha5 decided to remove thi5 endowtnent from our balance sheet as at 31 December 2Q22.
