ObJoctlvo8 and Actlvltlo8 The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and to become part of our parish community at st Mary and St Ethelburga. Our services and worship put faith into practice through prayer and wpture, music and sacrament When planning our activities for the year. the incumbent and the PCC have Considered the C¢)mmission's guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. The Cov119 pandemic resulted in the cessation of most in- person 8ervice8 throughout the benefice during the early part of the year and there has been an increased level of co opération been parishes. Revd Deb Scoble was ordained in June 2021 and is now Curats, resident in Lyminge. R8ad8r Sharon P8inè ha$ ntInUed as the Leader of the Pastoral Care Team. Worship and Prayer Desprte the pandemic have conts'nued to offer a raNJ8 of se1$ week by week, usiry a mixture of Zoom and prfrrecorded services during the period when the church building was ck>sed. The 8.00 am Eucharl8t and evening prayer provide a quiet, inb'mate and reflective environment for worship whilst OPF)Ortunib'e8 are provided for people to engage in more informal worship Ihrough the services on the fitst and fourth Sunday momings of each month. the 3 Sunday now being a choir-led Communion service. All are welcome to attend our regular services. In 2021 there were 72 M the Churth Electoral Roll, only h¥0 of whom are not resident within the parish. Vlhen meeting. the tyFxcal weekly attendan was 21>25 adults.. online sèrvic8S attracted around 18 attendees while recorded serwces typically had 4¢>50 viewings. With the relaxation of COVID restrictions, face-tfrface services were resumed from Easter onwards. As well as these regular worship services, we enable our ¥fiole communty to celebrate and thank God at the milestones of the journey through life. Through baptism we thank Gc# for the grft of lrfe: in marriage public vows are exchanged with God's blessing., and through funeral SeiCeS friends and family express their grief and give Ihanks for the life which 1$ now complete in this world and to commend the person into God's keeping. We have celebrated 12 funerals or intsrment of ashes in our church during 2021 and only e wedding and two baptisms- numbers reduced due to COVID. We have weekly Bible Study and Hlyne Groups arKI have participatsd in Benefice Advent and Lent groups - most of these held online this year. PaBelof4
Synods During 2021, one member of the PCC was a member of the Elham Deanery Synod, providing the PCC wth an important link betsveen the parish and the ider struclures of the church. Th8 chUh Building We want our church to be awailable to our communty for private prayer and this year we have again been able to leave it open during day1ht hours- mostly for ats wayer complying wrth govemment COVID restrictions. As in previou8 years. the PCC continued the rnonagement of the churchyard, sawng money on contrad gras8 cutting and involving many people- not all of wthom are regular churchgcers. Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions. thè Communty Service work team. supervised by the Probation Servw, were not available to help this year. Pastoral Care Ethdburga Lunch Club. The popular monthty lunch dub has not met due to COVID r8striction8. Schoo18 Activitie8. We interact ryth the village Church of England school in many ways, although reduced this year due to COVID. Revd Jane and Revd Deb arKI others take regular assemblies in school, there are schools services, and we have one foundation governor. The school again organised their Prayer Week this year. Some members of our parish are unable to attend thur¢h due to sickness or age. Vlhen allowed, a pastoral care group visits those in the church family and communty needs are brought to our attention. Priests have vislted all ¢hur¢h members who have requested it to celebrate o)mmunion with them either at their hom88 or in hospital. S8feguaffling The church ha8. over the past 8everal years. fvlly met our safeguardiw responsibiliti'es by carrying out ri8k as808sments, 88feguarding training, and 8nsuring that DBS dearances are obtained for all requlred activ188. Mission and Outreach Ouhvard Giving. One tenth of our weekly gmng is 88t agde for giving to Christian projects outside our own church - distributed to vati¢XJ$ local, national and intemational charilies- as well as an emergencies fund. In 2021, a total of £3000 was gNen. During lockdown. a weekly benefice news and prayer letter has been produced which has been distributed electronically and in paper copy to those wthout email. This keeps our parishioners inft)rmed of the important matter8 affeding the Church and also contsins articles that help develop our knowledge and trust in Jesus. The annual December St Nicholas Fayre could not be hokl - but we did hold a v8ry popular Chri8tma$ Tree Fe$tival. Our Music on a Friday evenc bringing a wider 88th.on of Peo into the church building. restarted in Soptembor. Ecumenical Re18tmship The Church has a long-standing ecumenical partnership Iwth the Methodist Church in the village. Flnanclal Review 2021 Receipts Despite restraints incurred due to the Covid virus, our total voluntary income increased overall by £210, due mainly to the fact that weddings and baptisms were résumed. colléctions from brought in £316, an increase of £274. Donation box receipts also increased by £165 and tax re<x)vered on all voluntary income by £407. These inGrea$es, h¢)wever were offset by an overall redu¢tKJn in regular voluntary giving of £636 The increase in receipts was due rnainty to the following: Parochial Fees received whth were £3,588 more than last year because of the resumption of weddings. Income from our investments amounted to £10,614, 8 surprisingty higher sum than was anticipated and only a tiny r8du¢tion on last year It was a real pleasure for us all to at last b8 able to hold 8om8 fundratsing activrties thk8 year. Apart from the social aspéct that we had all missed we raised a net totsl of £451 from the music evenings, £699 from the g8rd8n Safari kand and £467 fr(xn the Christmas tree festival. Expenditur8 Our largest unrestricted payment is for Mini8try. and the main portM)n of thB is the Parish Share which this year amounted to £31,362 - a decrease of 1 % Due to lad( of 88p4ices and lockdown. ministry expanses were reduced to only £590 for our Curate's expen8e8. Wrth the increase in weddings. the portion of the parochial fees that were payable to the Diocese Increased to £2,309. We had to pay £193 in total to other clergy because of Rèv Jane's extended sick leave. Running Costs Were r8duced by £486 mainly due to a negotiated decrease in utilty payments Th8 Administration Expenses indude Lyminge's share of the Benefice Administrator's wages and expense8, copier repairs, advertising etc The total wages and expenses that re recouped from the other parishes in tho banefice amounted to £6,593. an increase of £3.444. Every year we reserve 10% of our unrestricted inc<)me to gNe to charitie8: thi8 year we gave a total of £3,000 We had to draw £10.000 down from investment lunds this year to support th8 running expenses of the church because voluntary giving, donations received and income from our investments were insuffi¢ient by £11,161. However despite having to draw down this sum, th8 investment funds have increased in value by £28,955, leaving us 8ti11 in 8 good financial position to cover ministerial and running costs for several mre y8ar8 R88eNes The total income fr(xn our investments went down this year by £210 but the value of them increased by £23,064 which vms much better than expected. Our total investrnents are now valued at £463,902.. made up of Unrestricted £220,513 and Restricted £243,389. Pathways to th& Past Pathways to th8 Past. which was sot up to raise funds ts the archaeological dig and subsequent repairs to the pathways and churchyard, received donations and grants this year of £63,987 and expenditure amounted to £68,617 leaving a balance of £18,274 to be carried forward to 2022. Volunteern We woukl like to recognise and thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make our church the lively and vibrant communty it is. In particular we want to mention our churchwarden Bob Lane who has worked so tirelèssly on our behalf (acting also as verger) in the Ghurchyard and the church building and Lynne Lane for her work on the church's finances. and all the other members of the PCC for their valuable contribution to the ministry and running of the church. Structurn, Govomanc• and Managemont The method of appointment of PCC members is sel out in the Church Representation Rules. The membership of our PCC consists of the priést-in-charge. churchwardens, the readers and members elected by those who are on the electoral roll of the church. All who attend our See$ are encouraged to register on the ECtOral Roll and stand for election to the PCC. The PCC members are responsible for decisions on all matters of general concem and importance to the parish including deciding on how the funds of the PCC are to be spent. The full PCC met six times during the year with an average level of attendance of 90%. Given tts wide responsibililies, the PCC has a number of comrnittees and working groups, each dealing with a particular aspect of parish lrfe. These, which include Mission and Outreach and Fabric and Finance. are responsible to the PCC and report back to it regularty.
