trusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommended Practice
applicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableinthe UK
and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015).
The PCC met six times during the year as usual in January, March, May, July, September and November.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Aims and purposes

StJohn'sParochialChurchCouncil(PCC)hastheresponsibilityofco-operatingwiththeincumbent,theRev'd James
Rattue,inpromotingthewholemissionoftheChurch,pastoral,evangelistic,socialandecumenical,inthe ecclesiastical
parishofFarncombe.ItalsohasresponsibilityforthemaintenanceandupkeepoftheChurchandChurchRoomof St
John's.

Objectives and activities

OurparishMissionStatementis"OpentoGod;OpentoAll;OpenforYou".Wetrytodeliverthisthroughthe following
activities:
- Regular services providing opportunities for communal worship, prayer and education about the Christian faith.
- Pastoral care for people living in the parish.
- Supporting mission and outreach work in the local area and around the world.
The maintenance of St Johns Church and Churchyard is required to facilitate this work.

Social investments

The PCC has consideredthe Charity'sCommission'sguidanceon publicbenefit,and believesthatthe charityhas complied
with the regulations through the furtherance of its charitable aims and objectives.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Summary

Our usual activitieswere impactedby the Coronaviruspandemicand the measures in place to slow the spread of the  virus.
ServicesmovedonlinefromtheannouncementofthefirstUKlockdowninMarchandwehavecontinuedthisform of
worshipduringtheyear.WewereabletorestartsomeservicesintheChurchbuildingovertheSummeras restrictions
easedandthesehavecontinuedasrestrictionsallow.WeheldspecialservicesoverChristmasandwerepleased to
welcome a number of people from outside the regular congregation.
Ourcommunityactivitieshavebeenseverelyimpacted,withmostgroupsandeventssuchastheSpringFairand Village
Showcancelled,howeverourPastoralSupportteamhasbeenabletovisitsomemorevulnerableparishionersand some
groups have switched to online or socially-distanced outdoor meetings.
Formuchoftheyear,wewereunabletohostthemanylocalgroupsandorganisationsthatusethebuilding. However,
from Septemberonwards,some groupswere able to return,subjectto the local restrictionsin force and the agreement of
measurestokeeptheactivities"Covid-secure".ThisallowedSlimmingWorldtoholdmeetings,theABRSMtorun music
exams and the Tilford Bach Society and Guildford Jazz Club to present concerts.
AspartoftheChurchofEngland'sactiontobecomecarbonneutralby2030,wehavecompletedourfirst assessment
usingtheEnergyFootprintTool.Thiswillbeayearlyactivitytoidentifytheareaswherewecanincreaseour efficiency
andreduceouremissions.We havebeguntheinstallationofLEDlightingintheChurchwhichwillhelpusimprove. We
are also working towards Eco Church certification.

Public Worship

Our pattern of regular services up to 19th March was as follows:

- 8:00am Said Eucharist
- 10:00am Family Service (1st Sunday), Sung Eucharist (other Sundays)
- 5:00pm Sunday Sing (2nd Sunday)
- 6:30pm Sung Eucharist (1st Sunday), Taize/Take Time (3rd Sunday)
Monday
- 7:00pm Prayers for Farncombe (2nd Monday)
Tuesday
- 10:30am Said Eucharist
Morning and evening prayer are said every day except Thursdays.
Take Time is a reflective form of service based on Ignatian meditation.
Sunday Sing is an informal service of hymns and reflections.
Prayers for Farncombe is an ecumenical prayer group that meets monthly to pray for the village and its residents.
Subsequently, our pattern of services has been as follows, subject to local restrictions:
- 8:00am Said Eucharist
- 10:30am Said Eucharist
Morning and evening prayer are said every day except Thursdays.
Aweeklyaudioservice,streamedfromourwebsite,ispublishedonSaturday.Whennopublicservicescanbeheld in
Church, a service is recorded by the Rector and published on YouTube.

Attendance at the 10:30am Sunday service is typically between 30 to 40 people (adults and children).

Special Services

We welcomed childrenfrom FarncombeInfantsSchoolfor services at Harvest and Christmas.We also receive visitors from
outside our regular congregation for our Christmas services.

Services for Children

Messy Church

We held Messy Churchservices in Januaryand March,onlinechallengesover the Summer and an onlineMessy  Christingle
serviceinDecember.Typicalattendanceatthephysicalserviceswasabout60peoplewithbetween20and30 children.
WehaveconnectionswithmanyofthefamilieswhoattendthroughourToddlerGrouporthroughourlinks with
Farncombe Infant School however some families who attend do not have any prior links with St John's.

Roman Catholic Services

Our friends from St Edmund's Church have continued to run a weekly Roman Catholic Mass on Sundays at 9:00am.

Pastoral Care

Atthe2020AnnualParishChurchMeetinginOctober,therewere97peopleontheElectoralRoll.Duringtheyear, 3
baptisms,1 weddingand14 funeralswere conductedat St John'sor by the clergyat the crematorium.Supportis offered
to the families involved with these services.
Thechurchbuildingisleftopenforafewhourseachdayforprivateprayertoofferaspaceforanyonewhowould like
spacetoprayorjustsit.Votivecandlesareavailableforpeoplewhowishtousethem.ThePCCconsiderthatit is
important that the church is open and accessible as much as possible.
The following activities have been suspended since March.  We hope to resume them as and when conditions allow:

Bible Reading Fellowship

WeofferBible-readingnotesforindividualusethroughtheBibleReadingFellowshipscheme.Wehave10 members
reading 3 different books.

Stewardship

Our Stewardshipactivityin 2020 centredon the launchof the ParishGivingScheme, whichis now open for peopleto use.
This offers the facility to make donations via Direct Debit and makes Gift Aid claims on our behalf.

Fellowship

Mother's Union

TheFarncombeandGodalmingMother'sUnionBranchhasbeenabletomeetonlineand,acoupleoftimes, outdoors.
Branchmembers have continuedto supportprojectsin the area by collectingitems for emergencytoiletrybags for  people
admittedtotheRoyalSurreyCountyHospitalandprovidingcraftmaterialstoSendandFelthamPrisonsfortheuse of
craft clubs for the women held there.

Links with Other Churches

Diocese of Guildford

StJohn'sisaParishoftheDioceseofGuildfordandusestheservicestheyprovide,includingtheDiocesan Advisory
Committee(foradviceandguidanceonworktothechurchbuildings)andSafeguardingteam.Wehavealso been
followingthecoronavirusguidancetheyhavepublishedandpromotedtheirTransformingGenerositypodcast series
during October.

Deanery Synod

Representativesfrom St John's, both Clergy and Lay, meet regularlywith member of other Anglicanchurchesin the area at
the Deanery Synod to discussion issues of local concern and share news from around the Deanery and Diocese.

Churches Together in Godalming and District (CTiGD)

St John's actively supports CTiGD both financially and through volunteering at events.

Trinity Trust Team

St John's is one of the churchpartnersof the TrinityTrust Team (TTT), a local charityengagedin Christianyouthwork with
youngpeopleaged7 to 18 in the FarncombeandGodalmingarea.Theirworkin Farncombeincludessupporting students
atBroadwaterSchoolandrunningaStreetTeamtomeetandengagewithyoungpeople.WesupportTTTthrough the
provision of a house for the Director and donations to fund their work.
WhilsttheworkofTTThasbeenimpactedbythepandemic,theyhavebeenabletomovesomeservicesonline and
maintain a presence to the young people with whom they work.

Farncombe Infants School

WehavestronglinkswithFarncombeInfantsSchoolasitwasformerlytheChurchSchool.Weappointthree School
Governors(theRectorandtwoFoundationGovernors)andtheRectorattendstheschooltotakeassembliesduring the
year.TheschoolholdtheirEaster,HarvestandNativityservicesatthechurchandpupilsalsovisitthechurchaspart of
theirstudies.TheLeaver'sServiceintheSummerisheldatStJohn's;pupilsleavingtheschoolarepresentedwith a
children'sBible.TheschoolchoirperformatourFamilyServicesforMotheringSundayandHarvestFestival.Our After
School Club at the school was able to run during the Spring term, and was then suspended.

Godalming Junior School

Our Curate took one assembly in January.

Loseley Fields School

Children from the school visit St John's as part of their studies.

Community Activities

Farncombe Villager

TheFarncombeVillagerisourParishmagazineandispublishedfivetimesduringtheyear.Itisdistributedaround the
Parishviavariousoutlets,includingthelocalshopsandmedicalcentres.Themagazineisfree-of-charge. Regular
contributorsincludeFarncombeInfantsSchool,BroadwaterSchoolandtheMother'sUnion.Localbusinessespay for
advertisements and also contribute articles to the magazine.

Outward Giving

Eachyear,StJohn'sdonates10%ofthemoneyraisedthroughitsPlannedGivingschemetosupportprojects locally,
nationallyandinternationally.We dothisinthanksgivingforthesupportthatwe receiveandtosupporttheworkof the
worldwide church of which we are a part.
For2020,thePCCdecidedthatwewoulddistribute5%ofthemoneyraisedthroughthePlannedGivingScheme. This
distributionwillhappeninearly2021.Donationswillbesenttothefollowingorganizations:USPG,BibleSociety, MU
LiteracyProject,ChurchHousingTrust,ChurchArmy,MissiontoSeafarers,NazarethWay(alocalcharity supporting
chaplaincyworkat Sendprison),WarehouseChristianTrust(a localcharitywhichrunsthe Cellarcoffeebarin Godalming
and the Skillway workshop).
Our Messy Christingleservices held in Januaryand December raised donationsfor The Children'sSociety.The collection of
tinned goods made at our Harvest service was donated to the Godalming Community Store.

Church and Churchyard

The Churchand ChurchRoom are made availablefor hire and were used by a varietyof groupsduringthe year, subject to
the local restrictions and safety procedures.
TheQuietGardeninthechurchyardisusedbymanypeoplecomingtothevillagecentre.Volunteershavebeenable to
continue meeting monthly for Working Parties. Funds for this work are raised through sales of the Farncombe Calendar.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Summary

The PCC are most gratefulfor the supportof parishionersover the past year, which has reduced the financialimpact of  the
pandemic.PlannedGivinganddonationshaveremainedsteadyand,whilstwehavelostincomefromeventsand hiring
thebuilding,wehavealsoincurredlowercosts.Wehaveused£9,000fromourunrestrictedlegacyfundstotop-up or
monthly Parish Share contributions, ensuring that the Diocese received the full amount by year end.
OurOfficeManagerwasplacedonfurloughinJuneandhasbeenonflexi-furloughsinceSeptember(workingpartof her
hoursandonfurloughfortheremainingtime).In total,we havereceiveda grantof £2,375.89fromtheCoronavirus Job
RetentionScheme(fortheperiodJunetoDecember2020).TheRectorandChurchwardenskeepthesituation under
reviewandwillincreasethe hoursthatourOfficeManagerworksas required.We intendto continueclaimingunder the
Job Retention Scheme in 2021.

Income

Ourincomewasdown17%from2019howeverthiswasprimarilyduetolossofincomefromhiringtheChurch and
Church Room.  We received more income from donations and were able to claim more Gift Aid.
We received a grant of £557 from Surrey County Council for the replacement of the control panel for our heating system.

Expenditure

Our expenditurewas less than2019 becausewe did not run the events we wouldnormallyhave run and the building was
used much less so there was a small saving on utilities and consumables.
Wespent£2,484.75oninstallingCCTVfortheChurchandQuietGardenaftertakingadvicefromGuildfordDiocese and
the localpolicingteam.In previousyears,we have had occasionalproblemswith low-levelvandalismand disturbances in
the Churchand Quiet Garden and the new system is intendedto reassure and protectour staff and visitors.We also  spent
£6,719.71 on the initial phase of upgrading our lights in the Church to LEDs; this will help reduce our electricity usage.

Outlook

During2020,weusedmoneyfromourunrestrictedlegacyfundstosupplementourParishShareatarate£1,000 per
month.Atthatrate,ourunrestrictedfundswouldlastusforoverthreeyears.Ourexpectationisthatthe current
situationwillimprovebeforethenandwewillbeabletoresumehiringthebuildingsandotherfundraising activities,
albeit with additional precautions.
TheChurchofEnglandhassetatargetforParishestoreachnet-zerocarbonby2030.Achievingthistargetwill require
significant investment in our heating system, which currently uses gas.
ThepandemichashadwiderimplicationsfortheChurchatNationalandDiocesanlevelandtheimpactofthese will
becomeapparentinduecourse.Wewillneedtostayabreastofdevelopmentsandlookforwhatwecandoto best
carry-out the work of the Church in Farncombe.

Recruitment and appointment of PCC members

ThemethodofappointmentofPCCmembersissetoutintheChurchRepresentationRules.AllChurchattendees are
encouraged to register on the Electoral Roll and stand for election to the PCC.
The full PCC met six times duringthe year.The Staff Team and sub-committeesof the PCC (Worship& Nurture,Mission &
Outreach and Finance & Fabric) met between meetings and reported back to the full PCC.

Reserves Policy

It is PCC policyto maintaina balanceonunrestrictedfunds(wherepossible),whichequatesto approximatelysix months
unrestricted payments, to cover emergency situations that may arise from time to time.

I havecompletedmyexamination.I confirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattentioninconnectionwith the
examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,havebeenprepared in
accordancewith the CharitiesSORP (FRS 102) 'Accountingand Reportingby Charities:Statementof  Recommended
PracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReporting Standard
applicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland(FRS 102) (effective 1 January2015)', FinancialReportingStandard 102
'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCharitiesAct2011. The
financialstatementshavebeenpreparedunderthehistoricalcostconventionwiththeexceptionof investments
which are included at market value, as modified by the revaluation of certain assets.

Income

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesonce the charityhas entitlementto the funds,it is
probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructiveobligationcommitting the
charitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredinsettlement and
the amountof the obligationcanbe measuredreliably.Expenditureis accountedforon an accrualsbasisand has
beenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateallcostrelatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbe directly
attributedtoparticularheadingstheyhavebeenallocatedtoactivitiesonabasisconsistentwiththeuse of
resources.
Grantsofferedsubjecttoconditionswhichhavenotbeenmetattheyearenddatearenotedasa commitment
but not accrued as expenditure.

Tangible fixed assets

Consecratedandbeneficepropertyis notincludedintheaccountsinaccordancewiths 96(2)of theCharities Act
1993.MovablechurchfurnishingsheldbythevicarandchurchwardensonspecialtrustforthePCCand which
requireafacultyfordisposalareinalienableproperty,listedinthechurchinventory,whichcanbeinspected (at
anyreasonabletime).Foranythingacquiredpriorto2000thereisinsufficientcostinformationavailable and
therefore such assets are not valued in the financial statements.
Equipment used within the church premises is depreciated on a straight line basis over five years.
Freehold property is included in the accounts at market value. Valuations are periodically updated.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestrictedfunds representthe funds of the PCC that are not subject to any special restrictionregardingtheir use
and are availablefor applicationto the generalpurposesof the PCC. These includefundsdesignatedfor particular
purposesbythePCC.Theaccountsincludemonetarytransactions,assetsandliabilitiesforwhichthePCCcan be
held responsible.They do not includethe accountsof otherChurchgroupsthatare an affiliationto another body,
nor those that are informal gatherings of Church members.

restrictedobjectsprovidedinthetermsof thetrustorbequest,andb) donationsorgrantsreceivedfora specific

withanumberofotherGodalmingchurches.Ithasbeenvaluedat£250,000.ItislettotheTrinityTrustand a
nominalrentalincomeisreceived.Thepropertywaspurchased72%fromtheCapitalFundand28%from the
SundaySchoolFund.All receiptsand paymentsassociatedwith 26 TudorRoad must be appliedto the funds in the
same proportions and should the property be sold the funds must also be reimbursed in the same proportions.

General Fund

This fund is availablefor general use by the PCC and the funds are unrestrictedin their use i.e. they may be applied
at the discretion of the PCC for furthering the mission of the church.

Children's Work Fund

Adesignatedfund(i.e.thereisnorestrictiononthemoneyhoweverthePCChasallocateditfora particular
purpose)thatholdstheproceedsoftheAfterSchoolClubheldatFarncombeCofEInfantSchooland donations
from Messy Church. The money is designated for projects to further the church's work with children.

Enid Weston Legacy Fund

ThePCCreceivedalegacyof£66,141fromEnidWestonduring2013.Therearenorestrictionsontheuseof this
money;the PCC will use it towardsspecificitems as statedin the LegacyPolicy.To date,moneyfrom the fund has
beenusedtowardsthesoundsystem,toilets,heatingsystem,maintenanceoftheroof,installationofLED lights
and topping-up our Parish Share contributions.

Projects Fund

(This fund was previously called the Greatest Needs Fund and has been renamed to clarify its purpose)
Somedonorsrequestthatwedonotusedonationstowardsday-to-dayexpendituresuchasutilitybills.We may
usethemoneyforanyspecificitemorproject(thisisnotknownatthetimeofdonation).Thisrestricted fund
holds such money so that we can identify on what it was spent.

Small Legacies Fund

(This fund was previously called the Legacy Unrestricted Fund and has been renamed to clarify its purpose)
Fromtime-to-timewe receivesmalllegacieswhichwe handleinaccordancewithourLegacyPolicy.This requires
thatwe use the moneyon a specificitem or projectandnottowardsday-to-dayexpenditure.Thisrestricted fund
holds such money form legacies so that we can identify on what it was spent.

Capital Fund

Arestrictedfundforcapitalprojects.Thefundholdsa72%shareof26TudorRoad,valuedat£180,000 and
receives a corresponding proportion of the profits from rental.

Flower Fund

This is a restrictedfund which representsmoney donatedfor flowers in Churchand is releasedto flower arrangers
on request.

Other Restricted Fund

A restrictedfundto holdmoneyuntilit can be spenton its intendedpurpose.£200 heldin thisfundwas donated
bySurreyPolicein2009tofundanewsletterfromtheFarncombeForum.Thisnewsletternevermaterialised so
themoneywasreturnedtoSurreyPoliceinDecember2017.Afterinvestigation,theremainingmoneywas found
to be surplusfroma donationin 2012towardsa new ovenforthe kitchen.The donorhasagreedthatthe money
can be used towards the cost of repairing the East Window.  This fund is now closed.

Farncombe Church of England Sunday School Fund (Sunday School Fund)

This restrictedfundis an EducationalTrust.The Trusteesare the RectorandChurchwardens.The Fundis invested
withinterestto accumulatein the account.It hasa 28% shareof 26 TudorRoadvaluedat £70,000andreceives a
corresponding share of the profits from rental.

Organ Fund

A restricted fund for donations and funds raised to carry out repairs on the church organ.

Toddler Group Fund

Thisrestrictedfundholdsdonationsreceivedforrunningof the St John'sToddlerGroupandis designatedfor the
use of the group to purchase materials and equipment.

Sylvia Mitchell Legacy Fund

ThePCCreceiveda legacyof£9,982fromMrsMitchellduring2016.Thisamounthasbeenrestrictedfor projects
relating to the musical life of the church according to her wishes.

PB & JP Trower Legacy Fund

ThePCCreceivedalegacyof£51,401fromPhyllisandJeanTrowerduring2018.Therearenorestrictionson the
use of this money however the PCC intendto use it for specificprojects(i.e. not for day-to-dayexpenditure)in line
with their stated legacy policy.

Henry Smith Fund

This is a restrictedfund. A sum of money is donatedby the Henry Smith Charitytrustees to the Parish at the end of
eachyearfordistributiontopeopleinparticularneed.Since2014,thisgranthasbeenspenton supermarket
vouchers to assist local families.

Kettles On Fund

ArestrictedfundusedtoholdgrantsandotherincomefromtheKettlesOngroup.Thismoneywillbe used
towards transport for people attending and other items to support and enhance the running of the group.

Choir Robe Fund

Arestrictedfund,initiallycontainingmoneydonatedfromtheproceedsofthe2019SpringFairtowards the
purchase of new robes for the choir and serving team.

Heating Fund

ArestrictedfundusedtoholdthegrantreceivedfromSurreyCountCouncilforrepairtotheheating system
control panel.  This money will be spent in 2021.
