Report of the Trustees For The Year Ended 31 March 2021
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with FRS102 (effective 1 January 2015).

Objectives and Activities
Objectives of the Charity
The Charity’s objectives are to provide widows and their dependent children with relief from the effects of bereavement and loss and the impact on their persona! circumstances and wellbeing by providing:

Comfort support hope and a special understanding;

Information, guidance and assistance on financial matters and other benefits;

Professional counselling.
Summaryof main activities undertakenfor the public benefit The Army Widows’ Association offers comfort, support, friendship and a special understanding to widows and widowers of service men and women. We help them resolve some of the difficulties they may face after the death of their spouses by:

providing information and practical help with financial matters and other benefits;
-
assisting in the provision of professional counselling and life skills;
-
addressing issues relating to widows/widowers and their children with Army authorities; - offering advice and experience to improve the Army’s approach to widows/widowers in the future;
-
regional and national support groups and social events;
-
working closely with other ex-service specialist organisations in support of widows/widowers and their children.
We confirm the trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
Summary of main achievements during the year.
Due to the Covid Pandemic the Association has had to resort to supporting our widows remotely.
The Trustees and Management Committee have been fully committed to providing continued support to members. There has been Regular contact via mail shots, AWA social media platforms, emails and welfare telephone calls. We have continued to supply counselling support to those as and when needed.
There have been regular support events taking place via Zoom meetings, ranging from virtual get-togethers, Bingo, Quizzes which have proved to be of huge emotional support to our members. The support and friendships made are a great comfort and our members find the soft counselling at our regular virtual meet ups as good as professional counselling as they are surrounded by people who understand.
The Management Committee telephone welfare checks to all members were well received Small token gifts of support were also sent at Easter and occasionally throughout the year.
We have maintained a close links with military throughout to keep abreast of developments and howbest to support members during the pandemic.

Throughout the past year the Association has continued to assist and supply counselling to its members, aid development of friendships, and support through virtual media and direct contact. Sadly our normal activities during the year have been disrupted by the pandemic so some of our regular events such as regional coffee mornings, fish and chips at various locations around the country and cookery courses have been unable to take place. The continued support and friendships made are proving to be a great comfort and aid members in gaining confidence in rebuilding their lives. In many cases the soft counselling and the regular meet ups cover the needs as good as professional counselling in some cases.
Financial Review
Statement of the charity's policy on reserves
Our policy is to have sufficient unrestricted reserves to cover 12 months activities and administration costs. Total expenditure in the year amounted to £6,175 and we have cash funds of £106,216, the trustees consider the level of cash funds appropriate.
