Section A Objectives and activities

Objectives

Aufgabe der Gemeinde ist die Förderung der christlichen Glaubens in deutscher Sprache.

Dies geschieht durch Gottesdienste, Gesprächskreise, ggf auch Konfirmandenunterricht und durch Seelsorge in deutscher Sprache.

Im Rahmen ihrer zeitlichen und finanziellen Möglichkeiten kümmert sich die Gemeinde auch um das Wohl von Deutschsprachigen, die nicht Mitglied der Gemeinde sind.

Die Gemeinde steht in der Tradition der Reformation Martin Luthers. Sie versteht sich jedoch als Teil der ökumenischen Bewegung, die die Zusammenarbeit und Versöhnung zwischen Deutschen und Engländern fördert.

The mission of the church is to promote the Christian religion and German language.

This is effected by means of church services, discussion groups, confirmation classes and pastoral care in the German language.

Where time and finances permit, the church also engages in the care of German speakers who are nonmembers.

The church is part of an ecumenical movement to promote co-operation and reconciliation between Germany and England.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects

Wenn es die Pandemie erlaubte, fanden monatliche deutschsprachige Gottesdienste in Bournemouth, Southampton und Portsmouth statt. Präsenzgottesdienste waren 2021 wieder durchgängig ab Monat Mai möglich. Daran nahmen Deutsche und Engländer mit unterschiedlicher konfessioneller Herkunft teil.

In Portsmouth konnte sich ab der zweiten Jahreshälfte wieder ein Gesprächskreis regelmäßiger treffen.

Die von der Gemeinde finanziell unterstützten deutschsprachigen Kindergruppen in Bournemouth und Southampton konnten sich 2021 ebenso wieder treffen.

Neben den wieder möglichen Besuchen hielten Mitarbeiter der Gemeinde weiterhin telefonisch und per Email Kontakt zu den Mitgliedern..

Ökumenische Veranstaltungen, wie z.B.der gemeinsame Karfreitags-Gottesdienst mit der Gastgebergemeinde in Bournemouth, konnten 2021 Covid-bedingt nicht stattfinden.

Für den Pfarramtsbereich stellt die Gemeinde ein Pfarrhaus zur Verfügung und sorgt in Absprache mit den anderen beteiligten Gemeinden dafür, dass die Finanzierung der Pfarrstelle gesichert ist.

Whenever possible, there were monthly services in German in Bournemouth, Southampton and Portsmouth. Face-to-face services were again possible continuously from May 2021.

From the second half of the year, a bible study group was able to meet more regularly in Portsmouth.

The German-speaking children's groups in Bournemouth and Southampton, which are financially supported, were also able to meet again during 2021.

Although face-to-face visits were possible again, phone calls and emails kept playing an important role in the parish life.

The annual joint service with the Anglican host church in Bournemouth could not take place in 2021.

The church provides a vicarage and ensures the financing of the pastor’s post, together with other associated churches.

Section B Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Die Präsenzgottesdienste in Bournemouth, Portsmouth und Southampton waren den Umständen entsprechend gut besucht. Ein striktes Hygienekonzept wurde erstellt und eingehalten.

Von Januar bis April fanden alternativ Gottesdienste auf ZOOM statt.

Neben den Gottesdiensten gabe es das ganze Jahr durchgehend weitere wöchentliche Veranstaltungen auf ZOOM, in der Passions- und der Adventszeit jeweils zweimal in der Woche.

The services were well-attended in view of the circumstances. A strict regime of Covid compliance was created and put into practice..

Alternatively, services were also held on ZOOM from January to April.

In addition to the services, there were other weekly events on ZOOM throughout the year and twice a week during the Lent and Advent seasons.

Section C Financial review

Die Rücklagen sind überwiegend in einem gemanagten Aktienfond angelegt. Grundsätzlich sollten sie nur als Kapitalgrundstock verwendet werden. Obwohl die Gemeinde größere finanzielle Verpflichtungen im Pfarramtsbereich übernimmt, konnte ein Teil der Einnahmen den Rücklagen zugefügt werden. Das Vermögen reicht aus, um die Gemeindearbeit langfristig weiterzuführen.

Financial reserves are mainly invested in a managed share fund. They are basically to be used as capital, with only the profits being used for the work of the charity.

Das ehemalige Pfarrhaus war 2021 vermietet und trug trotz notwendiger Investitionen zur Finanzierung des Haushalts bei.

The former vicarage was let in 2021 and contributed to church finances.

Trustee selection methods

Der Kirchenvorstand hat die Funktion der Managing Trustees. Er wird von der Gemeindeversammlung gewählt. Ebenfalls von der Gemeindeversammlung gewählt werden die Holding Trustees, die für die Verwaltung der Finanzen zuständig sind. Der von der Gemeinde gewählte und von der Synode angestellte Pfarrer ist kraft Amtes Mitglied des Kirchenvorstands.

The church committee members are the managing trustees. They are elected by the General Assembly, as are the Holding Trustees, who manage the financial administration. The pastor, elected by the congregation and appointed by the Synod, is an ex officio member of the committee.

Additional governance issues

Die Gemeinde ist Mitglied der Evangelischen Synode Deutscher Sprache in Großbritannien und von ihr einem Pfarramtsbereich zugewiesen. Sie ist an die Regelungen gebunden, die sich aus dieser Mitgliedschaft ergeben.

Die Gemeinde muss die finanziellen Verpflichtungen gegenüber der Synode und dem Pfarramtsbereich erfüllen und unterliegt der Finanzaufsicht der Synode. Sie sollte ihre Ausgaben nur vorübergehend durch Rücklagenentnahmen finanzieren.

The church is a member of the Synod of German-Speaking Lutheran, Reformed and United Congregations in Great Britain, which allots it to a pastoral region (PAB). This subjects the church to the Synod’s regulations.

The church must fulfil the financial obligations of the Synod, and its finances are overseen by the Synod. It is only permitted to use assets for financing in exceptional cases for a limited period.

Fixed Assets
Tangible assets are recorded at historic cost apart from the motor vehicle which is at written down value.
Depreciation on the vehicle is calculated so as to write off 25% of the reducing value.
Depreciation is not provided on buildings.
The estimated market value of buildings is £780,000.

No trustee has received any remuneration from the Charity's funds.
