Physics Partners Physics Partners Limited Chair's Report for the Year ended 31 August 2024 The choflty is governed by o Memorcndum and Article5 of Association ond was established in June 2007, changing its name to Physics Partners Ltd in November 2015. The purpose of the charity is to advance education by raising standards of teaching in schools, in particular the teaching of physics. This purpose 15 primarily met through delivering troining to those teaching physics, as well as to science technicians. In 2023-24, Phy3iC5 Portner5 provided over 3,200 hours of physics support to teachers, technicians, and students-a 40fo increase compared to the previous year. This growth reflects the charity's commilment to expanding its reach and impacl. A total of 163 training sessions were delivered, with ??% of participants rating the quality as "good" or excellent. The significant increase in support hours was driven by a locus on more student-centered activities, including a Birmirigham study day, a week-long Girls in STEM event in Brighton and Hove, and a competition for Year 12 pupils from state schools. Partnerships wilh Future First and the Oxford University Deportment of Physics provided contracted incoine, and so training income greatly increased this year. The Planet Possibility programme, a sub-contract from Future First, offered online sessions focusing on physics subject knowledge and coreer development for teachers, as well as supporting videos on thp Phy%ics Partnprs website. The Oxford Univprsity Dp.parlment of Physir.% c.ontract to deliver a short video competition for year 12 Students raised the charity's profile. with almost l QO schools entering. Physics Partners are vcry aware of the national shortage of physics teachers, with the Department for Education recruiting only 17% of its target for new physics teachers in recent ypars. This year Physics Partners increased efforts to engage Initial Teacher Trainees and Early Career Teachers who are vital in addressing this shortfall, and continued to focus support on these groups. as well as the non-specialist teachers of physics. Thanks to funding from The Ironmonger's Foundation, Physics Portners focused on engaging schools in the Birmingham orea aller the pandemic caused o temporary disruption to our previou5 operations. A Study Day for 180 sixth-form students in Birmingham was followed by the launch of three new Physics Hubs. Attended by 26 teachers from 17 schools, these hubs are now delivering in-person training ond support, further strenglhening the network of physics educalors in the region. In advancing educalion in tliis woy, Ihe Irustees have complied with Iheir duly to hove due regard to the guidance provided by the Charily Commission on public benefit.
