In th8 autumn terrn we $8nd a malling to All SCM members and supporters containing MDvemenl magazine and a lem card of upcomlng events. Mov8m8nt Is our blannual student magazine edited by a member of our General Council and Irieludes news from the nation81 movemant and SCM communities, an inteNiew, book revlews and articles written by students and guest writers. The magazine is also distributed at fostivals and ovonts, sent to supportlng churches and chaplaincles. and deposited at the Brltlsh Llbrary. Each Advgnt and Spring we send Falth in Action toolkits to our members whlch contain a pray8r activity, an action prompt and a small glft based on a particular theme or toplc. Prevlous toolkits have focused on topics such as issu8s fac8d by r8fugees, actsvism, prayer and mentsl health, and have includ8d it8ms such as icfjn pray8r stations, seeds to planl, Christmas docorations and sweet Ireals. Once students get settled into the rhythm of the academic year our staff, including our Faith In Action project workgr8, start lo run workshops and outreach evènts with SCM communities on a range of topics from dlscipleship to activlsm, These workshops and vlsits continue through th8 Sprlng tgrm untll th8 Easler exam season. Prayer is an essential part of our Christian faith, and one of the ways we highlight its importance is that each February we mark the Unlversal Day of Prayer for Students, or Student Sunday, wllh a short onllne servlce. and by invillng SCM communlties, chaplalncles and churches to do th8 same wilh the resources we create. Student Sunday is celebrated around the world by memb8r8 of the World Student Christian Federation, and 18 a great opportunlty for us to come together with students around the world and to pray for on8 another. Throughout the year we run regional and national events to bring sludents together to explore Ihei r faith and to build a sanse of community Ihroughoul the movement. These include online seminars and discussion groups, day events, and residenlial 8v8nts, and f8ature guest speakers and workshops on a range of topics. An integral part of these events is the time spent in prayer and worship, giving students the opportunity to experience a variety of expression6 of faith.

Project8 The Faith In Adlon Project, run In collaboratlon with Project Bonhoeffer, seeks to.. incr8ase tha ur)d&rslanding of Bonho8ffer'8 approach to faitli and the meaning of Christian Di8cipleship amongst student5 and recent gradual&s, enable students and rocent graduates to reflect thaologlcally on their lif8, work and study, and IIv8 Out th8ir faith in action develop the skills and confidenc8 of students and recent graduates to challenge the slruGtures of inluslice and b8 leaders of social and politlcal transfomiatlon. Since its inception in 2012, the project has employed 18 staff and led to Ihe creation of numerous resource5 Including workshops and Blb18 Studle8, a Theologl¢81 Reflection Journal and a Called to Be vocalions resource. In addltlon the proleGI has supportgd the ¢reatlon of a 'Llttle Book of... sarles, whlch conslst$ of small pocket-slzad books that are part-devotional, part-workbook. Past editions have included The Little Book of P8ac8, croatod in conjunction with the Fellowship of Raconclllatlon, and The Little Book of Prol8St, a book of 11p$ and storles of posltlvé Change. The Theology and Resources project worker hr41ps students to explore the work and theology of Dietrich Bonhoffer, ongago in theological reflection and to share their reflections with Ihe wider movement through the SCM blog. Th8 Dlgltal Comrnunltles project Involves an 8nhancèm6nt of the online work that was start8d durlng tha Covid-19 pandemlc, which includ8d weakly soclals and theology seminars held onllne, whllst adaptlng to the new post- pandemic needs of students. The project aims to strenglhen the faith of our members by equlpping them with a doepened theological understandlng and exp8r1en of disclpleship In the 21st century. Tho digital communiti88 proJe¢t has also enabled us to make SCM morg accessible to those on the e(kJes of th8 m¢vem8nt who are not part of local communities Ihrough provldlng opportunilies for thém to participate in workshops and events onllne. Addilionally live-streamlng the keynote lalks at national SCM ev6nls allows those who are unable to attend in person lo ongaga in the dlscusslon. Members of SCM'S General Councll also run onllne groups relating to thèlr portfollos for LGBTQ* students and disabléd students, creating communities whero m&mb8rs can support one another. Affirml The Affirming Christianity project aims to develop a series of short )UrseS offering support to groups and churches as they seek lo deepen their progressive falth. Planned courses include 'How lo be a Good Christian Ally,, run in ollaboration vwth the Open Theology Trust and One Body One Faith, and 'Progre88ive Evangelism, run in collaboration with the Urban Theology Union.

Sustalnablllty In order to ensure that SCM'S actlvlties are more 8ustalnable In the long temi, th8 trustees and staff have taken various action8 to secure the future of the movement Operationally and financially. To ensure good leadership of th8 charity a Iralning programme for th8 trustees has beeri pul Into place, wlth all trustees receiving indu¢lion and r8fresh8r tralnlng each year. Tho trustees a150 undertake trustee speciflc safeguardlng Iralnlng at least on¢e durlng their term of office. Th8 truste8s regulat1y revlew stsfflng to ensure that the structure of th6 Staff team best r8sponds to the needs of the organisation. A fundralslng strategy has also been adopted, and the trustees hav6 a clear Investments and r8saNes pollcy to 9nsure that SCM'S financial assets ar& well ulilised. Safeguardlng Trustees and 8taff take their Safeguardlng responsibllities very seriously and have adopted a Safeguarding Policy covering all aspects of SCM'S work which is reviow8d annually. Th8 trust6es have appointed a designated Safeguarding Laad to ensure Ihat safeguardlng procedures are followed, and a m8mb8r of Gener81 Council holds th8 Safèguardlng portfolio 10 5UPPOrt this. SCM is a member of thirtyone'.elght, an Independent Chrisllan charlty th8t provides safeguarding support, training and resources. All truslaès and staff attend training regularly, includlng training cov8ring trusl888' responsibilitie3, Safeguardlng vulnerable adults, safer recruitment and the role of the safeguardlng lead. Slaff and some volunteers are also sublecl lo DBS checks as part of the re¢nJitment process. Contributlon of volunto8r8 SCM Is fortunate to be well 8UPPOrted by volunte6rs in various aspects of our work. A small number of voluntèèrs have glven their time lo complete administrative tasks such as assisting wilh mailings and data entry, and have r8pr8serited the Charity al ¢onferences held by other organisations and fesllval events. Volunteers have also helped to run SCM gatherings and contrlbuted lo SCM resources and publlcallons. Anna H&nderson, Reuben Jenkins and Samuel Simmonds, who weré èlected by our rnembership al the 2024 Annual Gen8ral Me8ting held in Aprll. SIX trust8as stèpped down from their roles thi5 year. In Nov8mb8r Siobhan Doyle reslgned as a trustee. in March Joshua Mock resigned as a trustee, and in June RebeGca Mann resigned as a trustee. At the end of July, Emilia De Luca, Russell Frost and Joanna Rarns8y cama to tha énd of their term of offic8, and stepped down as trusto68. Amongst the key achlevemenls of the trustees this year has been setting a budget in line with the long term flnan¢ial plan. Following a restructure of the staff team lo reduce costs, this financial plan was drawn up by the Iruste8S Wlth support from the Council of Reference with the aim of reducing th8 charily's rèllance on reserves to balance the annual budget. Trustees have also had greater involvement in financial monitorlng and have begun a review of SCM'S investrnents and reserves policy lo secure the long term financial stability of th6 movement.

The staff deslgned a new look to the Strategy Monltorlng Report so that It honours this refocused strategy and alms to make It easlar to monitor our work towards this vision as w811 as enables joint truslee and staff reporting. It also makes it easy to discuss and revlew with sections for both GC and staff members to input questions and recommendatior6 to discuss at th8 m88ting. Trustaes continue to support staff development through ¢ondu¢tlng annual deveh)pment revlews wllh each member of staff In conjunction wlth their Ilne manager8 as well as probationary. Thes8 meetings are an opportunity for staff to reflect on what has gonè well over the last year and the impact that they have seen through their work, and to considor how èffectiV81y Ih&y hav6 faced any challenges that hava arisen. Staff ar8 also asked questions regarding thelr wellbelng and relationships with colleagues and the truslee board. Feedback is shared with the wdor board where appropriate and decisions tak8n regarding any p8rformanc@ relatsd pay Incr8ases due to staff. In Ihe year there was a partlcular focus on staff w8llb&ing, and trusl88s hav& b6gun a programme of regular w8llboing surveys in collaboration with senior staff. All staff aro encouraged to complate the surv8y anonymously to share how well they feel that SCM 5UPPQrts and protects their wellbeing, and to offer suggestions of how this might b& Improved. strategy and Operations The followlng includes an overvlew of the achlevements and perfomiance of SCM In worklng towards each of the outcomes in our n8w vision and strategic plan. We have continued to support members and wmmunities through offerinq workshops. resources and events. as well as maintalnlng our onllne presence on soclal medla and through streamlng keynote lalks from our In-person gatherings. A key online community this y@ar has bean the Trans. Thoology Group, a spaco for trans. marnbars and allies lo meet to discuss theology and faith. An exciting new creation this y@ar has been the WhatsApp community. This has had really good engagement from members with multlple different chats, includlng SCM Membe, SCM Alumni, SCM Post-Grads and SCM Writer8 Group. The numb8r of studonts with a mambgrshlp subscrlption increased In tha last quarter, mainly through SCM'S presence at tho Greenbelt Festival. The percentage of &year and 1-year memberships remains steady, with a good balance between the IMO at a ratio of 750/0 10 25 % respectively, and all of the Greenbelt memberships were 3-year ones. W8 Started tracking the percenlago of ronewals oach quartor, which this year averag8d at 400/0. This year there was a total of 25 renewals, with nearly 400/0 of those happening in the first quarter of the year.
