Education

We work from the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (2021), covering the following seven areas of learning…

1. Communication and Language: development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

2. Physical Development: involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food.

3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development: involves helping the children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.

4. Literacy: development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

5. Mathematics: involves providing children with the opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces and measure

6. Understanding the World: involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.

Expressive Arts and Design: involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, etc.

Developments & Maintenance

We have continued to purchase new items for our Forest School Site and the children are really enjoying using this outdoor space. We have had a large wooden Pergola erected so that the children have a covered area to use when at the Forest School, which is a perfect shaded area in the summer and cover from the rain in winter.

Planning for the expansion was granted and work commenced on this area earlier in the year. There has been a lot of building work in progress and we are hoping to have it all completed by September 2025.

Regular maintenance is undertaken as and when required at Wem Playmates Nursery, this includes maintenance and gardening at the Forest School site.

Our Ethos – A caring Pre-School serving our local community.

Wem Playmates Nursery is a Charity run nursery which seeks to benefit the public through the pursuit of its stated aims. Our fees are set at a level to ensure the financial viability of the Nursery and at a level that is consistent with our aim of providing a first class safe, secure and run learning environment for our children.

Wem Playmates welcomes children from all backgrounds. We are an equal opportunity organisation and are committed to a working environment that is free from any form of discrimination on the grounds of colour, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation or disability. We will make reasonable adjustment to meet the needs of staff and pupils who are or become disabled.

Wem Playmates is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
