Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From Period start date 1 September 2022 To Period end date 31 August 2023

Charity name: Greyhound Compassion CIO

Charity registration number: 1120247

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 To relieve the suffering of greyhounds who are in need of care and
protection and in particular by providing and maintaining or
assisting in the provision and maintenance of kennels and other
facilities for the reception and care of greyhounds who are retired
and unwanted or who are otherwise in need of care and protection;
to place in such permanent homes as the trustees may consider
appropriate.
In practice, the area of benefit is national and overseas (generally
Spain and Ireland).
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
We support 3 shelters rescuing greyhounds:
• Greyhound Rescue, Boston, Lincolnshire (UK): around 25
greyhounds in residence at any one time;
• Limerick Animal Welfare (Ireland): caring for around 20
greyhounds at any one time
• SPA Scooby, Medina del Campo (Spain) rescuing 300 to 400
greyhounds (“galgos”) on an annual basis.
Our income is generated mainly from supporter donations and
fund-raising in the community (sales of second-hand donated
goods and clothes at car boot sales and on eBay). We have used
the income to contribute towards the cost of the following in the
period under review:
SPA Scooby:dog food for the rescued galgos in residence.
Limerick Animal Welfare:vet fees for preparing greyhounds pre-
adoption (mainly skin and dental treatments); veterinary equipment
including a steel table and vet medical gas.
Greyhound Rescue:kennel heating repair; dog food; and vet fees
including limb amputation for a rescued greyhound battling cancer.
We collect donated dog food, bedding and towels which the
Trustees transport at own cost to Greyhound Rescue in Boston.
We refer applications for adoptions to Greyhound Rescue (UK ex-
racing greyhounds) and to SPA Scooby (Spanish galgos). We help
with adoption assessments and rescue back-up advice.

Statement confirming Para 1.18 whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit

During the year under review our Trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when exercising our powers and duties to which the guidance is relevant.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Greyhound Compassion is a small charity with a very small group
of volunteers (5). We ensure our expenses are kept to a
reasonable minimum in order to maximise funds available and
target the money to the heart of the welfare and rehab needs of
rescued greyhounds/galgos and the rescue facilities they use,
ensuring our financial contribution makes a tangible difference as
detailed above in the Objectives & Activities section.
We have been able to afford to add value to the rescue facilities
for tens of greyhounds/galgos per capita.
A very significant impact this year was our funding of the majority
of the vet fee for the limb amputation for the greyhound suffering
from cancer. This was significant surgery and gave the
greyhound a chance of survival.
