Friends of Cannon Lane
Annual Trustee Report:
The Friends of Canon Lane is a charity set up to benefit and advance the education of pupils in Cannon Lane Primary School in Harrow. It is a parent teacher association (PTA) designed to encourage and develop effective relationships between members of staff, parents, students and others associated with the school. It aims to promote a sense of community and collaboration for the benefit of the school.
The charity set up social/educational events on the school’s premises for the benefit and enjoyment of students and their families, such as the Christmas and Summer Fairs, school discos, Science Fair, Art Auction and PTA quiz night. It set up fund-raising events, such as tree-planting and “slushie-Friday”, to raise funds for the school. All events were run by parent and teacher volunteers and raised valuable funds to purchase equipment for the school that would not normally be provided by the local authority. This included the supply of innovative educational equipment such as book vending machines for students, and continued support towards and development of the school’s outdoor sports areas.
The charity works closely with staff and parents to further the educational and social development of all students attending Cannon Lane Primary School through events and fund-raising.

Independent Review of the Friends of Cannon Lane Accounts
For accounts ended 31 July 2022
I have completed my examination of these accounts. I am satisfied that the accounts give a fair and accurate representation of the Friends of Cannon Lane’s income and expenditure for the year ended 31[st] July 2023; however would note the following points:
The accounts had not been fully reconciled against the balances on the bank statement for the period. This made examination of the accounts more difficult.
As a result there were some items of income which had been included within the accounts but not actually received. These items were only identified as part of the independent examination.

i. Cheque for £1,098 re: Christmas fair from Cannon Lane School (this has now been received so should be deposited to the bank shortly)

ii. Credit of £894 from Paypal re: Christmas fair which was still sitting in the Paypal account (this has now been withdrawn so should be credited to the bank shortly)
There were also some items of expenditure which had been raised but not yet debited to the bank account, such as cheques which have not yet been cashed. This have contributed to the reconciliation difference.
I have now managed to reconcile the accounts to the balance per the bank account, apart from a small difference of £39.19. A copy of my reconciliation is provided.
Recommendations
Bank reconciliations should be carried out periodically throughout the year. This will help identify any items of income which have not been received, or expenses which have not been paid/cashed.
A reconciliation between the closing balances per the accounts and the bank should be carried out at the end of the year and provided to the Independent Examiner.
