TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT 2021 2022 Together for Sheffield

Charitable Incorporated Organisation

Together for Sheffield was registered by the Charity Commission on 24th of June 2006 as Sheffield Cross Links. On November 13th 2019 the declaration of trust was amended and the charity was renamed ‘Together for Sheffield’.

Governance and management

The charity is governed by its trustees, the minimum number at any one time being three. The trustees are professionals, church leaders of different denominations and philanthropists from across Sheffield.

The charity employs a Chief Executive Officer, an Operations Director, and a Communications and Events Manager. Day-to-day running of the charity is

carried out by this team alongside a growing network of volunteers and contractors.

Public benefit

The trustees have given due regard to guidance published by the Charity Commission in respect of public benefit when fulfilling the objectives of the charity.

Objectives

The object of the charity is for the public benefit - the advancement of the Christian faith in Sheffield, through facilitating meetings and gatherings and the sharing of information resources across the churches in the Sheffield area. Providing charitable covering for city-wide Christian initiatives.

This year of activity for Together for Sheffield has been another year of significant growth and development.

Our work fits into two key themes: Serving the City, and Empowering the Church. Serving the City:

Working in partnership with those of all faiths and none, including businesses, faith groups and public bodies for the benefit of Sheffield by supporting, catalyzing and growing projects to help alleviate people of all faiths and none out of poverty and help them in crisis. This is the 2000 year old example of Jesus - bringing hope and healing to those who need it.

ACTIVITIES - Serving the City

Initiatives to serve the city include:

Ascend and Kickstart Employment Programmes

Together for Sheffield has pioneered an employment programme for 18-24 year olds. Working with over 30 employers, volunteer mentors and designing a provision around the Kickstart scheme. This is a unique approach supporting young adults into work placements and providing them with mentoring, training and wraparound support for a 6 month period. At the end of each cohort of young adults we run a celebration event attended by employers, local dignitaries and the young adults themselves. To date 80% of the young adults who completed our course are now in permanent employment or training.

The Innovators Giving Fund

Innovative businesses in Sheffield are supporting the Giving Fund, which draws on our sector expertise to fund strategic food provision, debt support, and employment projects that make a direct and lasting impact on our city. Through this fund we have distributed resources across Sheffield in a strategic manner. Special thanks to the local businesses in Sheffield who give to this fund on a monthly basis.

Section 2 ACTIVITIES - Serving the City

Together for Food Provision Network

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Together for Food Provision Network was launched at the end of March 2020. This is attended by food aid providers, Sheffield City Council representatives, advice agencies and other relevant agencies from across the city. This has continued and now meets once a month.

The network seeks to tackle food insecurity in Sheffield by:

Empowering the Church:

Working with the Christian community in Sheffield, helping churches and believers collaborate, sharing the Good News of the love of Jesus Christ across the whole city, together.

Through our Arise Sheffield community, the sharing of resources and information across churches, charities, and groups in the city has led to a number of charitable partnerships and employment opportunities due to connections made. This has been further increased since the launch of the Arise! magazine.

ACTIVITIES - Empowering the Church

Initiatives within this category include:

Arise Sheffield

A citywide prayer and action initiative was launched with support from across denominations in Sheffield. This follows a rhythm over the year:

Arise March: Almost 1000 people across 80 churches in Sheffield took part in this initiative to walk, pray and bless the city of Sheffield. This included handouts of hundreds of easter eggs to Schools, Foodbanks and local communities.

Arise Hallow: Promotes the work ‘Streets of Light’ and invites Christians to consider how to be a positive influence during the Halloween season.

Arise Christmas: Working with churches across the city to distribute advent calendars

Together for Schools

Local schools received Easter eggs and Advent calendars that pointed to the reason for the season.

Sheffield Business Leaders Network

The network has continued to meet online throughout the pandemic.

Together in Prayer

This network has continued to grow and is putting plans in place for cross-city gatherings. The aim of this network is to connect Christians across the city who pray, with relevant prayer requests from those of all faiths and none.

Sheffield Leaders in Prayer

A monthly gathering of church leaders from across denominations who meet to pray for the peace and prosperity of Sheffield.

ACTIVITIES - Empowering the Church & Core

Finances

During 2021/2022 the Charity was able to make an increased impact thanks to key donors, Sheffield City Council, Government Contracts and regular supporters.

Post-pandemic the team returned to the office.

Unity work

The charity continues to facilitate and manage the budget of multiple initiatives that fit under its banner.

FUTURE PLANS & THANKS

Plans for 2022/2023:

There are robust plans in place to continue growing the impact of Together for Sheffield and our City-wide initiatives. Having achieved a strong success rate of supporting 80% of the young adults on our programmes into permanent employment, we want to increase our impact through our new Ascend employment programme so that young adults find meaningful employment, a healthy community and live fulfilled lives.

Our work with the churches across Sheffield will continue in earnest as we help empower them to positively impact their local communities by facilitating an exciting pattern of city wide unity, prayer and mission initiatives which will increase in scale, reach and impact.

Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustee(s) to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period.

Note 2 Accounting policies 2.2 INCOME

This standard list of accounting policies has been applied by the charity except for those ticked "No" or "N/a". Where a different or additional policy has been adopted then this is detailed in the box below.

Recognition of income
Donated services and facilities that are consumed immediately are recognised as income
with an equivalent amount recognised as an expense under the appropriate heading in
the SOFA.
The cost of any stock of goods donated for distribution to beneficiaries is deemed to be
the fair value of those gifts at the time of their receipt and they are recognised on receipt.
In the reporting period in which the stocks are distributed, they are recognised as an
expense at the carrying amount of the stocks at distribution.
Donated services and
facilities
Donated services and facilities are included in the SOFA when received at the value of
the gift to the charity provided the value of the gift can be measured reliably.
Income from interest,
royalties and dividends
This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable can
be measured reliably.
Income from membership
subscriptions
Membership subscriptions received in the nature of a gift are recognised in Donations
and Legacies.
Membership subscriptions which gives a member the right to buy services or other
benefits are recognised as income earned from the provision of goods and services as
income from charitable activities.
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when:
 the charity becomes entitled to the resources;
· it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; and
 the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor.
Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is
treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the
terms of the appeal have specified otherwise.
Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SoFA as income from donations
when receivable.
Support costs
The charity has incurred expenditure on support costs.
Volunteer help
Donated goods for resale are measured at fair value on initial recognition, which is the
expected proceeds from sale less the expected costs of sale, and recognised in 'Income
from other trading activities' with the corresponding stock recognised in the balance
sheet. On its sale the value of stock is charged against 'Income from other trading
activities' and the proceeds from sale are also recognised as 'Income from other trading
activities'.
Goods donated for on-going use by the charity are recognised as tangible fixed assets
and included in the SoFA as incoming resources when receivable.
The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described

2.4 ASSETS
Intangible fixed assets
Heritage assets
Debtors
Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at
settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently,
they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.
Stocks and work in
progress
Stocks held for sale as part of non-charitable trade are measured at the lower or cost or net
realisable value.
Goods or services provided as part of a charitable activity are measured at net realisable value
based on the service potential provided by items of stock.
Work in progress is valued at cost less any foreseeable loss that is likely to occur on the contract.
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost
categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources, eg allocating property costs
by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage.
They are valued at cost.
Investments
Fixed asset investments in quoted shares, traded bonds and similar investments are
valued at initially at cost and subsequently at fair value (their market value) at the year
end. The same treatment is applied to unlisted investments unless fair value cannot be
measured reliably in which case it is measured at cost less impairment.
Investments held for resale or pending their sale and cash and cash equivalents with a
maturity date of less than 1 year are treated as current asset investments
Grants with performance
conditions
Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of
service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SoFA once the
recipient of the grant has provided the specified service or output.
Grants payable without
performance conditions
Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to
realistically avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding obligation must be
recognised.
The charity has intangible fixed assets, that is, non-monetary assets that do not have
physical substance but are identifiable and are controlled by the charity through custody
or legal rights. The amortisation rates and methods used are disclosed in note 9.5
They are valued at cost.
The charity has heritage assets, that is, non-monetary assets with historic, artistic,
scientific, technological, geophysical or environmental qualities that are held and
maintained principally for their contribution to knowledge and culture. The depreciation
rates and methods used as disclosed in note 9.6.1.4.
This includes any realised or unrealised gains or losses on the sale of investments and
any gain or loss resulting from revaluing investments to market value at the end of the
year.
2.3 EXPENDITURE AND LIABILITIES
Liability recognition
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or
constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the
obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
Investment gains and
losses
The charity accounts for basic financial instruments on initial recognition as per
paragraph 11.7 FRS102 SORP. Subsequent measurement is as per paragraphs 11.17
to 11.19, FRS102 SORP.
Tangible fixed assets for
use by charity
The depreciation rates and methods used are disclosed in note 9.2.
Governance and support
costs
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support.
Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its
compliance with regulation and good practice.
Settlement of insurance

Insurance claims are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition
criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP) and are included as an item of other
income in the SoFA.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 / 03 / 2022 .

Responsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
