Following a yearly plan, we continue to send funds to trusted individuals to enable them to purchase daily bread from the local Bakery which is well managed by the Sisters of St Francis. From time to time, we fund students at secondary schools and colleges. Provision is made for pastoral care. As particular needs arise, we help develop innovative work to improve local facilities and utility supplies. |

| Para 1.38 |
| Policy on social investment including program related investment |
The business is in profit, other than from bread which comes under the category “Free Bread” for which our charity provides social investment grants to various local recipients (Including schools and hospitals). We are pleased to report that the social impact, which can be measured in many ways, not only provides positive health care (there continue to be no deaths from starvation despite poor harvests) but also through education and improvement of utilities - water and electricity for example - ensures increasing independence and empowerment. We continue to provide an emergency contingency fund which has proved helpful in times of personal and group need. Friends of the Ifakara Bakery Project provide support, advice and additional fundraising activities from time to time. |

| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Supplies of free bread We funded 76,136 loaves of bread during 2020 and over 80% of these reached children below the age of 7 at Kindergartens and Nursery schools. It is a lifeline for many and has helped continue to maintain improved school attendance despite the impact of Covid. We also provided free bread for hospital wards for malnourished children, neonates and TB patients and at the Nazereti leprosy centre. Education The good pass rate for assessments and qualifications at all relevant levels has been maintained due to tuition from the study centre. Innovative activities We have further developed the beekeeping project which continues to provide an income stream for those participants and |
also has many health giving benefits. We have found it beneficial to receive advice from a UK charity, Bees Abroad with particular interests in this area. Emergency/Pastoral Care 2020 again saw some individuals needing personal support, often caused by poorer health. The Trustees agreed with all such support provided.
