“Free Bread” for which our charity provides
social investment grants to various local
recipients (Including schools and hospitals).
We are pleased to report that the social
impact, which can be measured in many
ways, not only provides positive health care
(there continue to be no deaths from
starvation despite poor harvests) but also
through education and improvement of
utilities - water and electricity for example -
ensures increasing independence and
empowerment.
We continue to provide an emergency
contingency fund which has proved helpful
in times of personal and group need.
Friends of the Ifakara Bakery Project
provide support, advice and additional
fundraising activities from time to time.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Supplies of free bread
We funded 76,136 loaves of bread during
2020 and over 80% of these reached
children below the age of 7 at
Kindergartens and Nursery schools.
It is a lifeline for many and has helped
continue to maintain improved school
attendance despite the impact of Covid.
We also provided free bread for hospital
wards for malnourished children, neonates
and TB patients and at the Nazereti leprosy
centre.
Education
The good pass rate for assessments and
qualifications at all relevant levels has been
maintained due to tuition from the study
centre.
Innovative activities
We have further developed the beekeeping
project which continues to provide an
income stream for those participants and

also has many health giving benefits. We have found it beneficial to receive advice from a UK charity, Bees Abroad with particular interests in this area. Emergency/Pastoral Care 2020 again saw some individuals needing personal support, often caused by poorer health. The Trustees agreed with all such support provided.

Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

Achievements against
objectives set
Para 1.41 All commitments were met during the year.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41 Income was substantially lower because
the Covid Pandemic which restricted
fundraising contacts to online only.
Nevertheless, the importance of holding
reserves meant that we were able to
continue to honour our commitments
through the Free Bread scheme.
Investment performance

financial position at the end
of the period

ability to meet contingency demands which
arose.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Reserves are held to ensure at least one
further year’s funding to allow (should the
need arise) sufficient time to make any
necessary adjustments in activity and
fundraising.

Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 n/a
Details of fund materially in

Para 1.24 n/a
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 This report was produced as the impact of
Covid-19 continued, and we are continuing
to monitor and seeking to mitigate the
difficulties this may cause for fund raising.

Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 Historically, fundraising has been through
the provision of an extensive series of talks.
Additionally, the many friends of the Ifakara
Bakery Project provide freewill gifts, often
via regular standing orders, which enable
us to receive additional funds through Gift
Aid.
Individuals have also kindly undertaken
“one off”fundraising activities.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46 We continue to believe that our work is not
simply the relief of poverty but to empower
beneficiaries to achieve independence and
personal successes.
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 The principal concern facing the charity is
linked to the Covid-19 pandemic which has
led to a significant reduction in
opportunities to give talks around the
country.
However, we have been working with some
of the friends of Ifakara to explore other
fundraising activities which we hope will
see fruition in the future.
