The vehicles were replaced in May 2015 and were depreciated over four yeais iherefore funds have aside each for their replacement. The vehicles are currently an essential element of our services and purchasinR has been found to be the cheapesi option. In 2024 we obtained an accurate figure for the cost to the Charity of leaMn8 the Dorset County Council pension fund. should the need to do so arise. There is only one employee left in the Scheme and when this employee leaves a cessation fee will be tri88ered. This sum was assessed as £129K therefore whilst the liability relating to this scheme in terms of the charity SORP is nil the trustees believe it 15 &tIal that the termination fee be ring fenced. Trustees are mindful of the need to retain sufficient reseprfes to protect the Chartty in the future. The minimum reserve has been set by analysing the cost of winding up the organi5ation including outstanding lease commitments, staff notice periods and redundancy costs. The amount require%1 foi tl?iS 15 ieviewed periodically nd a sum of £690.IXIO is required as of 31st March 2025. At the year-end. free reserves were £401.603 whith equates to 5 monihs unrestricted expenditure. Whilst a relatively high figure, the Charity remains heavily reliant on Contract fvndir* which 15 currently only agreed year by year. As a result. the trustee5 believe that it is neSary to maintsin this level of reserves in order to mitigate against the potential reduction or loss of these contracts. given the current public spendin8 Cuts. The Trustees understand that charities must not retain unnecessarily h%h levels of rescrvcs and thc needs of the Charity in the coming years are balanced with the objert of deliverlng tharitable services. The Charity is following a medium-term plan to diversify its income profile and so become less reliant on ihe contract fundin& and the trustees believe that it is essential to retain sufficient r&erves to allow this plan to be pursued in the event of the contract income being reduced or lost. As of 31st M¥ch 2025, the charity had free reserve of £401,603 is viewed as adequate to enable the Charity to build up uwestfirted income whilst runnlng Wlth the deficit that would be caused by the1055 of contract income. The Trustees must maximise the value of the investments without taking too high a nsk, but there is an element of reputational risk to consider as well as financial risk. The Board Is mindful that some charit5 have been heavlly criticised in the media for their investments in industries includin& amongst other5. tobacco. alcohol. energy. arms, baby milk substitutes, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Should the Charity draw 5uth uiticism, donations may be reduced as a rosult.
