Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Despite a turbulent year for Reality in 2018/19,
two major projects were still generating work,
having a positive impact on young people and
helping us to achieve our aims. It was however,
very evident, that the charity was unable to
maintain a full time worker and in November
our CEO reduced his hours to 2 days a week
finding employment with another charity
“Grace Foundation” for the other 3 days a
week. This essentially meant that, assuming our
income remained fairly stable, we could plan for
the year ahead.
There have been 2 major projects that have
been the focus of Reality’s work this year, as
follows:
Abundant Life
This year we have continued to train, equipping
and resource others across the UK to deliver the
courses in their own schools and communities.
We now have over 30 franchises and more than
120 people licensed to deliver courses the
length and breadth of the country. The courses
provide a tried and tested tool in tackling the
mental health crisis among our young people.
Additionally it helps schools to deliver on
personal development and wellbeing and
promotes British Values of respect and
tolerance. The small group setting gives the
young people a safe environment in which to
express their feelings and opinions, learning
from other group members.
In March 2020 we made the decision to move
all of our training online and everyone who had
booked training was happy to move to zoom.
Through our Abundant Life contacts the
lockdown actually provided some opportunities
to do one off training events on loss and
resilience to community groups across the
Midlands. This led to a particular school booking
some staff CPD for the following September.
Coach Mentoring
So many Pioneers, very often feel on their own
and when they come across challenges feel that
they have nowhere to turn. The Coach
Mentoring Programme aims to equip Pioneers
across a geographical area, in the principles and
tools required for great mentoring. This
programme is running in Lichfield Diocese
training 12 Pioneer mentors. This is due to

finish in early 2021 and again all the sessions booked from March 2020 have gone ahead on zoom. Our CEO has also undertaken some one-off training sessions and written 2 series of blogs on Loss and Resilience for Urban Saints. He has also been supporting local young people suffering as a result of the lockdown restrictions due to covid. This year has been a much more settled year than the last and longer term plans are now beginning to emerge for Trustees to discuss.
