CHAIRMAN'S ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2022

The 2022 HeckingtonShow marked the continuedrecoveryfrom the impactof the pandemicand lock down.We were delighted to
be able to return to our two-day format, and to stage nearly all our regular events.
Our"pocketshow"lastyearwasverywell-receivedbutafterathree-yeargapsincethelastfullshow,andthechallengesof the
weatherinpreviousyears,itwasreallyimportantthat2022wasastrongre-launch.Anditundoubtedlywas.Ourtotalgate was
24,000,perhaps suppressed by poor weather on Sunday morning.Whilst not a record,it was our best result since 2016 and was still
the biggest for a villageshow in the United Kingdomthis year. And more than that the show itself was a huge success.All the trade
stand spacewas sold priorto the show,and we were back to a waitinglist,and talkingto tradersa numbersold out of their entire
stock,whichwasexcellent.Andourcompetitionsandeventswerewell-supportedtoo.Aparticulardelightwasthescale and
qualityofourdonkeysection.Tuckedawayinthecollectingringwemightnotappreciatequitehowstrongitis, attracting
exhibitors form as far afield as Lancashire. There is a special feature elsewhere in this report.
Theatmosphereacrossthewholeshowgroundwasfantastic,particularlyonSaturdaynightpeoplewhenthousandsenjoyed the
friendly,relaxed atmosphereof Heckingtonas they were entertainedby our Take That tribute,Rule the World.Talkingto people in
theareaandreadingthefeedbackwehavehad,thereisnodoubtthatpeopleenjoyedtheshow-andthey'recomingback next
year and bringing their friends!
2022wasundoubtedlyagoodyear,butoneofthegreatstrengthsoftheHeckingtonShowteamisthatwedonotreston our
laurelsand are alwaysworkingto strengthenand improvethe show.The New Field remainsa workin progress,and we appreciate
the work of our Vice Chairman Mark Sardeson as we all work together to deliver conditions suitable for an agricultural show.
Aswellasdealingwithchallengesofputtingonashowthisyear,wearelookingtothefutureaswebelievethattheneed for
everythingthe show offersin terms of the opportunityto connectpeople to improvepeople'swell-beingand strengthensocial ties
aswellashelpbusinessesismoreimportantandvaluablethaneverbefore.Oneofourkeygoalsforthefutureistocontinue to
developtheshow'ssocialmediapresenceandmakethemostoftheopportunitiestoengagethroughdigitalmedia.Aswell as
socialmedia sites such as Facebook,we are findingthat increasinglyour visitorsand exhibitorsare engagingwith us on-line,all our
show-jumpingentriesarenowon-line.Wearealsolookingathowwerecruitthenextgenerationofvolunteers,onwhom the
show's continued success will depend.
Livingwiththeshowas wedo,it is perhapseasytoforgethowextraordinaryit is,andthatthisisn'ta thingthathappensin most
villagesacrossthe UK each year. We were remindedof this with a specialvisit from BBC's"FarmersCountryShowdown"crew who
filmed not one but two episodes of their programme here at Heckington this year.
Andtherecanbenodoubtthatthisisentirelydrivenbythepassionandcommitmentofthevolunteerteamthathave staged
Heckingtonshowforoveracenturyandahalf.Thataround250peoplecomeforwardeachyearisquiteremarkable.And even
moreremarkableinthisverytransientanduncommittedworldisthelong-termdedicationofsomanyoftheteam.Thisyear we
celebrate50yearsofcommitteeserviceoftwoofourmembers,PaulGashandDavidNickolsandwewillbemakinga special
presentation to them at the 2022 AGM. We will also be acknowledging the decades of service of many more of the committee.
In summing up this year's show, I can do no better than quote one of or trade exhibitors,who said"Thank you once again to all the
Heckingtonteam for all your time, energy and effortyou have put into such a brilliantshow."Can I add my own thanks to all of our
visitorsfor a job well done. There is no doubt that not only was this show a great success,but once again we have strengthened the
excellent reputation and future of this amazing event.

ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,presenttheirreportwith the
financialstatementsof the charityfor the year ended 30 September2022.The trusteeshave adoptedthe provisionsof Accounting
andReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordance
with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

Theobjectsofthecompanyaretheadvancementofagriculture,horticultureandruralcraftsforthebenefitofthepublicby the
holding of an annual show.

Public benefit

ThetrusteesconfirmthattheyhavereferredtotheguidancecontainedintheCharityCommission'sgeneralguidanceon public
benefitwhenreviewingtheTrust'saimsandobjectivesandplanningfutureactivities.Allofthetrusteesgivetheirtimefreely and
no trustee remuneration was paid in the year.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

Incomingresourcesfromgeneratedfundsand charitableactiviesreboundedin 2022afterbeingseverelyhit by the cancellation of
the annual show due to COVID 19 restrictions in 2020 and the one day show in 2021.

Investment performance

Interest and dividends contributed £2,251 to general funds.
Thehighlevelofreservesnotedinthereservespolicybelowhasarisenduetothehardworkanddedicationofmany volunteers
from Heckington and the surrounding area.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Investment policy and objectives

Cash is held in interestearningdepositsat banks and otherinstitutions.Funds not requiredto be immediatelyaccessedare held in
highinterestratedepositsatvaryingperiodsofnoticerelatingtothelikelytimescaleonwhichtheywouldneedtobe accessed.
This policy is reviewed annually.

Reserves policy

At30thSeptember2022thecharityhad£582,720inunrestrictedreservesofwhich£556,199isrepresentedbyfixedassets and
investments.
Thereservesareheldatthislevelasaprotectivemeasureincasethecostsincurredinpreparationforashowarenotmet by
incomedue to bad weatheror any otherunfortunateeventon the day.One of the principalrisksis the futureof the showground.
Ourpolicyisthereforetoaccumulatecostsofacquiringandservicingashowground.Theseareestimatedtobeintheregion of
£500,000. The reserves policy is reviewed annually.
Due to the level of reserves held, the trustees have no concerns about the charity’s ability to continue to operate in future years.

FUTURE PLANS

Thecharityplanstocontinuemeetingtheirobjectivesbyholdingannualshows.In2023,wewillbecontinuingourpolicy of
continuousreviewandimprovement,whichbeginswithourfirstcommitteemeetingaftertheshow.Wehaveidentified the
following areas for specific focus in 2023:

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document

The original society was founded in 1863.
Thecharitablecompanywasincorporated1stJune2004andcommencedtradingonthatdate,acquiringalloftheassets of
Heckington and District Agricultural Society (an association) registered charity number 507328 on 1st October 2004.
The company is limited by guarantee and has no share capital.
The governing document of the charity is its Memorandum and Articles of Association.
The charity is managed by the trustees who meet on a regular basis and decisions are made at these meetings.
The trustees are elected at the AGM and receive no benefits. They are supported by a committee of 50 elected by the members.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

Thedirectorsarecommittedtoensuringthattheirmembershavethelifeandprofessionalexperiencesessentialtothegrowth of
the charity.They are open to any opportunityto attract new members.All new trustees and volunteersare given relevant induction
training on their first day or as soon after as it is possible. Training will be on an "on-the-job" basis as is necessary.

Risk management

Trustees have reviewed risk and undertake regular health and safety assessments.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Heckington and District Agricultural Society ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 30 September 2022.

Responsibilities and basis of report

Asthecharity'strusteesoftheCompany(andalsoitsdirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylaw)youareresponsiblefor the
preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
HavingsatisfiedmyselfthattheaccountsoftheCompanyarenotrequiredtobeauditedunderPart16ofthe2006Actand are
eligiblefor independentexamination,I reportin respectof my examinationof yourcharity'saccountsas carriedout under Section
145oftheCharitiesAct2011('the2011Act').IncarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowedtheDirectionsgivenbythe Charity
Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completedmy examination.I confirmthat no mattershave cometo my attentionin connectionwith the examination giving
me cause to believe:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financialstatementsof the charitablecompany,whichis a publicbenefitentityunderFRS 102,havebeen prepared in
accordancewith the CharitiesSORP (FRS 102) 'Accountingand Reportingby Charities:Statementof Recommended Practice
applicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableinthe UK
andRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancial Reporting
StandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCompaniesAct2006.Thefinancialstatementshave been
preparedunderthehistoricalcostconvention,withtheexceptionofinvestmentswhichareincludedatmarketvalue, as
modified by the revaluation of certain assets.

Financial reporting standard 102 - reduced disclosure exemptions

Thecharitablecompanyhastakenadvantageofthefollowingdisclosureexemptionsinpreparingthese financial
statements, as permitted by FRS 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland':

Income

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesonce the charityhas entitlementto the funds, it is probable
that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesare recognisedas expenditureas soon as there is a legal or constructiveobligationcommittingthe charityto that
expenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredinsettlementandtheamountof the
obligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditureisaccountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassified under
headingsthataggregateallcostrelatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticular headings
they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Tangible fixed assets

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.
Freehold property- not provided
Improvements to property- 20% on reducing balance
Plant and machinery- 20% on reducing balance
Computer equipment- 33% on reducing balance
Tangiblefixedassetsarestatedatcost(ordeemedcost)orvaluationlessaccumulateddepreciationand accumulated
impairment losses. Cost includes costs directly attributable to making the asset capable of operating as intended.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthecharity.Restrictions arise
when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Hire purchase and leasing commitments

RentalspaidunderoperatingleasesarechargedtotheStatementofFinancialActivitiesonastraightlinebasisover the
period of the lease.

Investments

Investments in long term deposit accounts are included at their fair value at the reporting date.

Going concern

The financialstatementshave been prepared on a going concernbasis as the trustees believe that no material uncertainties
exist. The trustees have consideredthe level of funds held and the expected level of income and expenditurefor 12  months
fromauthorisingthesefinancialstatements.Thebudgetedincomeandexpenditureissufficientwiththelevelof reserves
for the charity to be able to continue as a going concern.
